16-city survey Grim reality: Perception is that city lacks in arts Monday, April 7, 2008 6:24 AM By Jeffrey Sheban THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH The news hit the arts community like a ton of hicks: Columbus finished last in a 16-city comparison of arts and cultural establishments. "It's damaging; we're all concerned," said Bill Conner, president and chief executive of the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts. "I was sad to hear it," added Nannette V. Maciejunes, executive director of the Columbus Museum of Art. "I think we do fight against that perception." The ranking was part of a wider report released last week by the Columbus Partnership, a nonprofit civic-development group, to assess the region's economic strength and cultural vitality. 2. ^How many woods and parks in sw Ohio go on for 17 miles? The park has a lot of history, trails, canals, etc. It is a great asset for Cleveland.
  3. NYC, you are so cool ;)
  4. I've heard some rumblings that Stark will present his masterplan to the Planning Commission in May. It is good to hear that he's still moving forward (even if a master plan presentation is still pretty preliminary).
  5. I like the design a lot. It would gesture towards those arriving from the south on E.9th. I wonder how solid K&D feels about prospective office tenants.

Way too early, but the Tigers are 0-4.
  7. It got denied for the tax credits. But now that another round is going to be available, maybe it will get the credits and move forward. Regarding Heartland, my understanding is that the company has not completely folded, but that this project is pretty much dead for the foreseable future and that they have let go off their staff.
  8. I can take your money if it would make you feel better.
  9. AHEEEMMMM. Just to clarify for those who don't know, 20 percent is the STANDARD. You tipped 20 percent though and that makes you a great American. And yes, it's demanding work involving constant running around. However, some "servers" (gender neutral term) are completely inept and/or lazy and deserve to be tipped accordingly! I always thought that 18% was the standard and it is 15% if the server is uninspiring. But who really can figure out 18% off the top of his or her head??
  10. Putting a 2-3 month delay into perspective kind of makes it seem ahead of schedule.
  11. ^check out the University Circle projects thread for more info and pictures. Mayfield Lofts has been approved by the city design review last month and looks to be headed towards breaking ground.
  12. So what happens to 1010 Euclid? The county owns it. I'm sure that they don't want it.
  13. From what I've seen so far, it looks like they are tearning down the small, 60s-esque addition to that large warehouse. I'm hoping that is all that they're tearing down. I think that we would have heard something regarding this project if they were moving forward with tenants. Let's hope this is a sign that a re-use of the larger building is not far away.
  14. I've been busy lately, so I'm a little sketchy on the details of the new bid. Am I correct in hearing that they will not tear down the buildings on Euclid? Has K&D provided any plans for the Euclid side?
  15. ^I prefer the TC site, but I've never even thought of 'filling the huge hole/parking lot' as a reason for locating the new cc there.
  16. I doubt that PHS would let go of a tenant unless they felt pretty good that they could replace it with someone else. Still, I wish that they would relocate to another location in the cbd.

This time it is Traveler’s Shoppes and Cleveland Trunk, a luggage and gift store in the city’s Theater District since 1936 that traces its history here to 1894. There is an architecture firm that is moving to Ohio City sometime this year or next (after it renovates a nice two story brick buildng. I believe the name of the firm is mbi/k2m Architecture.
  22. I heard last week that One Charter Place is very much alive and will be going to design review soon for some changes. They are looking at a spring 2009 groundbreaking at this point.
  23. Another UC design review session this week: http://www.universitycircle.org/content/UserFiles/File/Design%20Review%20District%20Agenda/Agenda%20040308.pdf Circle 118 project: I think that there are supposed to be about 17 or 18 townhomes that would go on the vacant corner of 118 and Euclid Ave (adjacent to the RR bridge on the north/west side of Euclid). This would make a great gateway into UC.
  24. When I looked at my neighborhood, it appears that a lot of photos of Cleveland were taken during the high point of last summer's drought.
  25. Hopefully the apartment project will start by summertime. This renovation will help Euclid tremendously.
