Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
The mall site wouldn't increase foot traffic either. If you were looking at Cleveland as a place to hold a convention, would you rather have it at TC or at the Mall? IMHO, TC is much more attractive location for a convention. If we want the CC to be a success, then we have to make it so that it will attract paying customers.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
^^While I very much dislike Walmart and think that Ikea is a better corporate citizen, we are sort of looking the other way with Ikea.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
Pretty much. One big box sends its money to China and the other sends it to Sweden. Does Ikea take better care of its workers? I just went to an Ikea for the first time this weekend (Pittsburgh). What an interesting place.

I don't think that the Ratners think very highly of Hagan and Dimora. Of course they want to stop losing the million dollars a month that they losing at TC and will push the commissioners to select TC for the CCMM. The Ratners are very smart people. They see right through Hagan and Dimora.

I see this as the type of thinking that would doom a convention center. We need to think about what kind of center would attract the most business. Additionally, I think Burnham's plan is somewhat flawed. If we built out his plan, then we would block off the view of the lake, stadium and museums that you can now presently see from the Malls. In my opinion, that is the best thing that the Mall has going for it.

CNN's Atlanta bias.
Nashville's tornado wasn't as bad (but it did hit the city center), but Memphis's Hurricane Elvis (hit the city center and the entire county) was the equivalent of a category 2 hurricane. 7 peopld died and much of the city was without power for two weeks. Some neighborhoods didn't get power back until three weeks after the storm. Many homes and buildings were destroyed and tree-cutting service crews from all over the southern US were brought in over the next month to help with the clean up. For some odd reason, the devastation did not make it into the national news. In Memphis, the July 22, 2003 is known as the day that the nation forgot Memphis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis_Summer_Storm_of_2003

A tornado hit downtown Nashville in 1998 and major storm hit downtown Memphis in 2003.

I saw a blurb in the PD that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman were spotted at the Flying Fig. They have a son who is a student at Oberlin.

CNN's Atlanta bias.
I don't watch CNN at all (I get lost amongst my 200 dishnetwork channels), but I do check out CNN.com freqently. The only thing that I notice is that CNN generally reports on urban crimes when they occur in Atlanta (drive by; rape, etc), but they don't talk about this stuff when it happens in other cities.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
it won't hurt in the least bit. Unless it means that Stark will sign a huge hotel, it don't see how it would have a huge impact on his ability to get leases signed and secure financing.

Cleveland Gladiators Discussion

^Is the Flat Iron too far away to be considered a neighborhood establishment? It is almost as if this place is being treated as the first place to open in the immediate vecinity.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Regarding Litt's latest blog entry: The guy is usually pretty well-reasoned, but this article was weak. I can understand why he wants the CC to be located at the current site, but he uses some pretty flawed reasoning to back up his point. Does he really want future CC expansions to occur on lakefront property??

^it is rumored that this strip will be torn down and replaced with a park plaza. There is a small park behind this plaza that would be replaced by a mixed-use development.
