Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I don't think that it faced Star Plaza. I'd say that it was just off of Star Plaza. I think that it closed a few months ago. Maybe January or December.

Proximity to hotels, restaurants, nightlife and transportation will be key factors, he said. Geez, which site would that be??

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
When a new building is going to be built or when there is a major change in an area, the city usually gets the neighbors involved. In this instance, there are no real existing neighbors. No matter what though, we need to scrutinize this move or else we could end up with a mistake. That said, I don't think that something inside that loop is going to have too much of a negative effect on the FEB unless the loop becomes too large. The loop is in its own little world--cut off by concrete walls and railroad tracks. In a way, the dye has been cast when a loop was first constructed--we've effectively holed out a portion of the area and cut it off from the rest of the east bank. I'd hate to see this mistake exacerbated by increased the footprint of the loop.

Lakewood, Ohio
Before this building was a pizza joint, it was my grandfather's night law office for decades. He originally had it for the neighborhood Slovaks who didn't speak English and who were more comfortable going to an attorney in the neighborhood rather than downtown. The 11-story Fedor Manor, located two blocks to the east of the office is named for my grandfather.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I'd be curious to see the property tax impact if the CC is built at TC. If its built at the current site, then the tax revenue would not increase.

I think that the City is planning on using the old convention space for movie production/sound stage.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
But I thought that they needed to be connected due to the medical device conventions. I think that we are all a little short on the details of how this would need to work.

All signs point to the 2011 elimination of the University Circle/E.105/MLK traffic circle.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
I agree. I like them, but they seem to be lacking something on the first floor. Too much brick. I think that they could benefit a bit more from some height. UC has a decent little skyline at night.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I would expect more details when a deal is or is not struck. If I were the county at this point, there is no need to p!ss off the people on the other side of the negotiating table by going public with stuff. Additionally, they don't want to create any expectations from the public by announcing that a certain term is on or off the table.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
if you check out this week's Landmarks meeting, there is another decent-sized townhouse development being proposed for Little Italy on Coltman Rd. They are only presenting their conceptual plan (meaning that they are a little bit away from securing permits and breaking ground). The Mayfield Lofts development is seeking final approval. Things are hopping on the other side of the tracks. Next up: UARD.

So where exactly would you put it? Due north of Edgewater Dr in Cleveland? Why would I not be surprised if you suggested that we put it in North Royalton?

It will be in Cleveland next year. The Rock Hall is looking to make it much more of an event.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I agree. That area is destined to be a 'no mans's land' of sorts. If that's the area that we have to sacrifice to keep a huge, growing corporation in the city limits, then i'm ok with it.

some new apt towers in chicago, jakarta & brooklyn
I wonder if they are going to put some blue-silvery paint on the cement. The rendering looks cool, but the constructed cement looks cold and lifeless.

Cleveland: Ontario-Superior intersection caves in downtown
It ain't the weight on top so much as the lack of support from below that causes sinkholes (technically "subsidence", but I'm mincing words) like this. When a subterranean pipe breaks, the high-pressure water literally scours out an underground cavern while seeking a path of escape. Combine that with pre-existing utility access vaults and the like, and you go from "zero to crater" in a matter of seconds or minutes... I'm just very grateful no one was hurt. Thanks for the explanation.

some new apt towers in chicago, jakarta & brooklyn
Hate the Jakara one. What's with making all the buildings the same color? Don't really like the Chicago one, but it looks like one of those designs that might look better once finished. Brooklyn--too gimicky.

Cleveland: 2013 National Senior Games News & Discussion
The convention doesn't last two weeks. The games last two weeks. I'd assume that the athletes don't stay the entire two weeks.
