  1. New rendering  Boutique hotel for Short North gets conditional OKs Sunday, May 22, 2011 03:19 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH A long-planned Short North boutique-hotel project from the Pizzuti Cos. has taken an important step forward. The Italian Village Commission last week gave conditional approval to the conceptual plans for the hotel, called the Joseph. That followed a similar thumbs-up from the Victorian Village Commission a few weeks ago. Final approvals will be sought later this year from the commissions and the city zoning office before Pizzuti can begin construction. If all goes well, the hotel could open in 2013. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/05/22/boutique-hotel-for-short-north-gets-conditional-oks.html?sid=101
  2. Pizzuti gets initial OKs for Short North hotel, office projects Business First Date: Thursday, May 19, 2011, 7:40am EDT Read more: Pizzuti gets initial OKs for Short North hotel, office projects | Business First Developer Pizzuti Cos. has preliminary approvals for its hotel project in Italian Village and a companion office and parking garage across High Street in Victorian Village, Columbus Business First reports. But the Columbus-based real estate developer still needs the Italian Village Commission and Victorian Village Commission to approve details of the two projects and needs to secure formal zoning approvals before the $50 million project can break ground early next year. Once Pizzuti gets so-called certificates of appropriateness from Italian and Victorian village panels, it can move forward on the 10-story, 135-room boutique hotel dubbed “The Joseph.” The zoning process for the hotel, commercial building and garage could start this summer and be completed this fall. 3. I like the original design better than the current one. So I guess nay.
  4. A 400,000 square foot office tower would be approximately 15 to 20 stories high for that particular parcel of land. I could live with that although I'd love to see a tower that was at least 25 stories tall.
  5. Bank's ugly back will be beautified Sunday, April 24, 2011 03:14 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH While the nearly completed Columbus Commons park has become more attractive, the south wall of the Fifth Third building got a whole lot uglier when Columbus City Center mall was demolished. The hole left after City Center came tumbling down has been covered in recent months by a tarp. Soon, it should get a more attractive covering with a trompe l'oeil effect. Orange Barrel Media plans to create a giant (30 feet high, 140 feet wide) scaffold banner depicting what that side of the building will look like by next year, after the park is completed and windows and glass doors have been added. A raised plaza is also planned, which would include outdoor seating and stairs down to the park. The banner will mask the construction starting this year. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/04/24/banks-ugly-back-will-be-beautified.html?sid=101
  6. http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/print-edition/2011/04/22/effort-warming-to-circle-columbus.html The developer of Columbus Commons is gauging developers’ interest in building housing and stores along the High Street perimeter of the new downtown park. Capitol South Community Urban Redevelopment Corp. has sent requests for qualifications to 25 developers for a plan to put as many as 300 apartments atop 40,000 square feet of street-level retail space on three sites between Town and Rich streets. “We’ve decided to test the market,” said Capitol South CEO Guy Worley, noting the stretch of High Street “has always been intended for mixed-use development.”
  7. The tower will now rise to 293 feet and just to put it in perspective, the Lincoln and Morrill Towers are 260 feet tall. This new building will be a monster on campus.
  8. No it was in The Winchester Square Plaza in Canal Winchester. Rent went up $500 in 5 years and to sign another 5 year lease would have been suicide on my part. Casto doesn't pay for anything if something goes wrong. It cost me $1700 just to fix the AC only to have to move out 6 months later. Casto also charged a 3% fee of all my sales. They are criminals and I'll tell anyone who listens to never rent from Casto.
  9. They were the #1 reason I closed my business back in October. Words can not express the hatred I have for Casto.
  10. New Hilton’s foundation in place Sunday, March 27, 2011 03:15 AM By Marla Matzer Rose THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH In about a month, work on the new Hilton Columbus Downtown, across from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, is expected to hit a milestone: The construction site should become level with High Street. The hotel is being built on a long-vacant lot next to railroad tracks below the grade of High Street. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2011/03/27/new-hiltons-foundation-in-place.html?sid=101
  11. I was downtown today and they now have 2 cranes up. I didn't have my camera with me but it was nice to see construction cranes downtown again.
  12. Awesome! I can't wait until my trip to Europe this summer!

Thank you. I'm really starting to bond with the little sh*thead. He is a handful.

I know this thread is going all kinds of places but I just wanted to share an interesting fact about my new puppy. Just a few days ago I adopted a new Samoyed puppy (he was $1100 if you wanna actually call it adoption). Anyway, here's the connection to this thread. The Samoyed's (pronounced Sam-eh-yed) origin comes from NW Russia. Of course St. Petersburg is in NW Russia which is where I'm from and where I'm going. Anyway, I named him Mishka Bear which in Russian means cub bear or little bear. Here's a picture.

xopow bac ( I think I spelled that right) I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say. Sorry. I was trying to say "Good for you". I only know a few Russian phrases. Thank you. I'm pretty excited about the trip.

That's a much better time of the year to be heading over there than what I did! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures. You will probably be ID'd as an American by passers by as I was. Lana said I dressed and carried myself as an American, and smiled in public. If there are some Russian chicks looking to marry western men, they may well find you! And if you want to really impress the heck out of them, be a true gentleman and treat them like queens (not like objects as many of their men do). But if a lady wants you to buy a lot of stuff for them, go find another lady -- it's quite possible she is interested in you only as a cash machine. There is a lot of that going on among Eastern Bloc ladies because those types think western men are rich. I wanted to go this time of the year because I wanted to experience the white nights. St. Petersburg is filled with so much beautiful architecture and rich history like the Hermitage Museum and many of the Czars summer palaces. I'm so excited to go. I do have some distant relatives there that might introduce me to a few good catches if you know what I mean. You never know, I might just find myself a wife while I'm there.

I'll be going to St. Petersburg, Russia in June 2011. I was born there and moved to the U.S. when I was only a year old. This will be my first time back to Russia in 35 years. I'll be there for 2 weeks and I'm going to take pictures like it's going out of style. I can still speak some Russian so I think I'm gonna try to hook up with some hot Russian chicks while I'm there.
  19. Forget the future, I'm sure people are laughing at us now!
  20. I'm all for redeveloping Cooper Stadium but even I have to admit that those race cars are loud as Hell. I remember as a kid going downtown to watch the Columbus 500 and you could hear the roar of those race cars all over the center of the city so I can completely understand the opposition for constructing a race track at Cooper Stadium. However, considering that there will be sound walls, I'm not so sure how much 16 to 20 races a year would actually effect the quality of life in the surrounding areas. IMO, German village isn't that close to Cooper Stadium so to me it seems like a lot of bitching for nothing in that part of town.
  21. Sherman Cahal, you continue to impress. Fantastic shots.
  22. You have skills. I'm a fan.
  23. Nice shots!
  24. I live in CW (hence the user name c-dub) so I'll have to take some pictures and post them. Canal does have some charm in it's historic downtown.
