Columbus: Downtown: Highpoint / Columbus Commons
Ahh yes... Let's look at the positives... With that monstrosity gone, this park will open up new angles of the skyline with some impressive new views. It's going to make some of the surrounding buildings appear taller. I for one can't wait for the City Center to be gone forever!

Thanks for the nice comments. These pictures didn't come without a price though. I caught a nasty cold afterwords. Nothing that moms homemade chicken soup can't fix!

They should put low weight bearing space needle type tower thingy there since the park is going to be completely worthless anyway. Could you imagine some kind of modern looking "space needle like" tower soaring up to around 75 stories or higher with some cool light displays on top? You could have some kind of advertising on the tower that resembles the corner of Broad and High that could help pay for the damn thing. Imagine something like this:

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
If you don't mind, can you please elaborate for me as to why the plans from the 1960's didn't pan out? It just seems to me that Ohio lost out on a lot of $$$!

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
My bad! I really had no idea that Dayton's airport had it going on like that. Hey, good for Dayton and I apologize if offended anyone.

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
This is such an interesting thread. A couple of months ago my mom and I drove from Columbus to West Chester down 71 to 275 then back up 75 for the obvious reason of shopping at IKEA. Anyway, afterwords, we drove a half an hour from West Chester to Centerville to visit some family and then I thought to myself.... It takes longer for me to drive from my house in Canal Winchester (SE side of Columbus) to my dads house in Powell (NW side of Columbus) than it takes for me to drive from the outskirts of Cincy to Dayton. It's pretty much straight metro now from one city to the other. Now I know its been said before and I doubt this will ever happen in our lifetime but if they built a new international airport right in the middle of Cincy and Dayton, that would change everything. I think it's the only thing that can save Dayton and it's downward spiral and take Cincinnati off auto pilot. I never could understand and there is no excuse for why Cincy's airport is so far into KY. Dayton's airport is basically pointless between Columbus and Indy. This could change Ohio period.

Dayton, Ohio :-)
For such a short building, CareSource really makes a huge impact downtown. I never thought a building of it's height could be so prominent. It's really impressive at night.

Columbus - Rhodes State Office building (Wikipedia)
That video rocked! Nice find!

Columbus - Rhodes State Office building (Wikipedia)
According to Wikipedia, the odd shape of the building is because of a last minute change in height so I wonder if the top of the building had an all together different design to it. I wonder if the north side of the building was supposed to be flat instead of the weird two box-like shapes on the roof of the Rhodes? I wish we had access to the original plans for the building. BTW, my apologies to J. Remy for starting a duplicate thread.

c-dub replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionColumbusite, I swear I'm not hating on you, it's just that some of your posts do crack me up. When I read them, you kind of remind me of Debbie Downer. Please take no offense as I fully understand and appreciate the fact that you can look at the glass half empty and take an entirely different view on things.

Columbus - Rhodes State Office building (Wikipedia)
Ok so check this out.... According to Wikipedia, the Rhodes state office building is 629 feet and was completed in 1974 (the year I was born). Anyway, The building's odd shape is attributed to a last-minute decision to cap the buildings height; originally, the building was supposed to be nearly 150 feet (46 m) taller. Here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes_State_Office_Tower First of all, are there any renderings in existance of what it was supposed to look like? Secondly, is there anyone here with the photoshop skills to give us an idea of what could have been?

COLUMBUS - the HBIC heads south for a weekend
Mayday, first of all, I love the shot of the Vern Riffe. Dude, I've seen enough of your bad ass photos of C-town to know that you my friend do possess mad talent. If only I could use some of your talent to show off some of my favorite angles of downtown C-bus, peeps here would be flippin' their wigs on how awesome downtown Columbus really is. Mayday, you rock and you have my respect. On a side note, can you give us some shots of Cleveland from an angle that we never see? I'd like to see what you can do from the airport side of the lake. I never see that side of downtown.

Cleveland on December 7, 1989.
Ahh...The good ole' days of Cleveland. Actually, I went to the MNF game in October that year against Da Bears. I was 15 and that was my very first Browns game. We sat in the Dawgpound and I believe we won 27-7. My Orange and Brown blood is still flowing to this day but it's getting very thin.

Ahhh.... Coming from one who lived in the area back in the late 80's through the early 90's, good luck on having your moment. I hope Dayton can bounce back someday but I wouldn't hold my breath.
