Cleveland - before/afters , and works-in-progress
At the top are the latest pics of the CIA housing on Euclid. I know the beige and gray thing is not on everyone's wishlist but I think it works here. Especially as a replacement for the red paint on these bricks (not necesarily against red-painted bricks, but I am against the particular red that was used here)

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Dont know wher else to put this so Ill put these here. Landmark Towers has had ongoing facade repair and cleaning for a while now. this was really necessary, i think in a lot of people's opinions. The W. Prospect-facing side seems pretty much done, and 1 of the 2 "towers" facing Ontario is cleaned up. The other provides a comparison wondering if the brass will be polished?

One of my favorites too. As I read through this thread, I am surprised at the number of 'thumbs down' on the Breuer Twr. I think the renovation might change a few minds. Perhaps not. Its completely and quintissentially 60s/70s...in a good way.

Not that I'm fishing for likes, but I agree - I've posted pics I thought were pretty rad in the past only to get no comments. Def makes me post less pics. On that note - I have a new website - www.kevinsmithphoto.com (scroll down) Yes smith I think you pictures are some of the best on this site, in fact , some of the best Ive ever seen. THis one below is one of my favorites of all time. As I said when you posted it back in June 2011...it is "top-notch." Quite simply award-winning and there are many more. How you havent gotten more coments, I dont know. No secret that Ive posted many threads and a number of construction updates -- all Cleveland-centric -- and am pleased when fellow UOers appreciate it by commenting. Although it is a lot of work, and it can get kind of exhausting, and Im getting tired...and so on and so on, I'd still do it even without much feedback because in the end Im doing it for the CLE and not for anything personal. Probably sounds extremely corny, but it's true. I guess you gotta just assume that its appreciated even if not expressly commented on

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Some observations in PHS... The old video boards were taken dowm last week Glimpses of Cibreo (former Bricco) can be seen at night through the papered windows, and the windows at the former Alex Bistro have been papered getting ready for the new place there Utility work was done all summer at key intersections, ostensibly for the upcoming arches and chandelier, etc. Star Plaza is very cool now at night w Z Bruells burger stand and the other improvements...of course, more coming. Hanna exterior lights were on the other night..very colorful. Wanted to get a pic tonight but they werent on. PHS is definitely going to pop with color. (sorry about the twisty-turny pictures but PHS just lends itself to that)

Cleveland - Ohio City and a trip down Lorain Ave
Dont know any population numbers but the area on Lorain from about W 115th to W 130th is sometimes referred to as Little Arabia beccause of shopping and residents. Iirc, Palestinians are th most represented in CLeveland. It is definitely the regional shopping and (authentic) dining destination for Middle Eastern/Arabic specialties (like Asiatown and, to some extent, Little Italy are to their respective communities). I believe businesses took a hit post-9/11...if that was the case then things have rebounded nicely

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Facadectomy alert! If anyone was ever curiuos as to what was under the hideous 70s-era paneled facade of the "Clevelander" bar at Prospect/Huron, well, that paneling and broken lights have been removed and something neat has been uncovered. I hope it (or part of it) stays, I dig stuff like this. This kind of patina cannot be reproduced

Cleveland - Ohio City and a trip down Lorain Ave
Love giving lesser known areas their due. Standing O! to all who patronize the businesses. Yes the Kleins Radiator storefront is something, those are hard to come by and this one is in ostensibly good condition. Its my favorite of those that Ive pictured here, except for the George Washington school at the end, you know...the one with the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru in its fron t yard, lol. Well I suppose it could've been demoed... glad it wasnt

Cleveland - Ohio City and a trip down Lorain Ave
Ohio City, and then a trip down Lorain Ave within Cleveland proper. Lorain Ave...unpretentious, rough around the edges to be sure... in some areas that is an understatement. This is easily the most diverse 6 miles in the state of Ohio. ANd if that's not enough, a significant amount of Old school Cleveland commercial architecture remains, despite the street being divided for the construction of I-90 and the placement of suburban-style strip malls like Westown.

Cleveland - before/afters , and works-in-progress
Coming soon, Detroit-Shoreway Coming soon, Ohio City Coming soon, ohio City Heck's cafe Ohio City expansion/renovatoin has kicked into gear as of late Wow, underneath the 70s paneling, there evidently was a layer of asphalt shingle siding (popular in the 30s and 40s for easy insulation and alleviating the need to paint wooden clapboard or wooden drop board). They're both outta here revealed is an ostensibly late-1800s Western Reserve clapboard vernacular. Hopefully they keep the exterior authentic Looks like wooden (?)replacement is underway. Very exciting for Bridge Ave, will have outdoor coutyard between the 2 buildings CIA housing on Euclid (most recent at top) few, to several, weeks ago Some Ohio City works-in-progress Platform Beer / Plum on Lorain, and wonderfully-rehabbed corner bldg St Ignatius' acquisitions at 32nd & carroll Portside Bldg on W 9th, Portside Distillery on lower level ...and the future Fermentation Palace...
