Only worked a half day today so after leaving Uinversity Circle I was able to try a sandwich and slaw at the Cleveland Pickle. Very good! Will return gladly.

^ and ^^ This is not the Jacobs-owned parking lot on Public Square. It is the other that was a proposed RTA Transit Center just last fall(?). The signs are pretty cut and dry, even saying something to the effect that you're SOL if your car remains in the lot after Monday. The attendant said "the Casino bought it".

I dont know if this has been posted on UO, either on this thread or some other, but there were signs at the surface parking lot across from the Renaisasnce Hotel saying that Monday 4/30/12 would be the last day that lot was open to the public. This is the lot bordered by W. 3rd and W. Superior and Frankfort. I dont know if it includes the parking spaces all the way to W. 6th (where that old old building was razed last year). When I asked the attendant what was going on he said the Casino bought it. Again, this might be common knowledge on UO but it was the first that I had heard this.

Didn't have any camera. Btw, McNulty's pic...that was from this weekend when just the clock faces were lit. Now it's everything, as I mentioned.

Wow, this is a night that has been long in the making. West Side Market tower is fully illuminated. The clock faces, the exterior top, and the long tower. Picture perfect and totally befitting such a wonderful landmark.

While at GVG last night I asked (tommy Karakostas) when Santorini would be opening on W. 25th. He said it's looking like mid-June. He is a super nice guy and I feel like Santorini is going to be something special. This will add to the still-strong diversity in the Mkt Dist by joining Alaturka Turkish, Phnom Penh, Nate's Middle Eastern, Orale Mexican, Bon Bon, Souper Market, Flying Fig, etc. EDIT: add SoHo too for bringing their unique tastes to W. 25th. And news about the "Dragonfly" space... Mike Nowak Snags Dragonfly, Reveals Plans for New Restaurant Posted by Douglas Trattner on Fri, Apr 20, 2012 at 3:30 PM The odd, ugly and sad drama surrounding Dragonfly has ended in the most favorable way possible. The Ohio City space, originally opened by Jeff Allison in 2010 and later assumed by Marlin Kaplan, should be successfully occupied by its next tenant for years to come. Chef Mike Nowak, along with his wife Karrie, will open Black Pig (1865 W. 25th St.) by early summer http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2012/04/20/mike-nowak-snags-dragonfly-reveals-plans-for-new-restaurant

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Nice. Off topic, but is that a new mural on the Hanna building (below the video board) with the kids' faces, or new video boards?? Cool.

St. Louis tour (Washington Corridor)
Pardon me if this has already been on UO (it's not brand new), but this is a great building tour of St. Louis' Washington Ave. As a Clevelander, I see a mix between the Euclid Corridor and some E. 4th, and WHD stuff. Click "East" and move down Washington. There's a lot of before- and after- restoration pics http://builtstlouis.net/washington/18a.html

Looks like we'll have to wait for consistent warm weather. I just saw the forecast for like the next 6 days, yikes... Maybe we can get McNulty to do a gay-centric (as much as that stuff exists nowadays)...a gay-centric Brew House gay-centric Vodka Distillery and Nightclub in time for the 2014 GG ?? Im not necessarily being facetious.

It does sound like McNulty has a personal vision for Market District. He's got the money and momentum behind him and he's one of the Cleve's biggest believers right now. So it'll be interesting to watch

This is a good outcome. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'll give it an 8. So I have this correct...Garage Bar space will become Ohio City Nano Brew? And then the Dragonfly space is actually keeping the Dragonfly name? Well, they do have terrific outdoor spaces to work around, DF's is elevated! That should add some panache. Glad to see the Heil Block will have activity again by this summer (hopefully). wb, I've heard that Garage Bar sort of lost its luster the last several months anyway.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
You have to remember that the over-50 demographic...really, the over-40 demo...holds a nostalgiac place in their heart for the Higbee building. My mother who is elderly along with her friends, and my aunts, cant wait to go to the Horseshoe simply to be in a place (Higbee Bldg) where they once spent many hours decades ago. Now, that may wear off...who knows. But it is the x-factor that the Horseshoe has. Biggest concern... if there become any untoward perceptions in going down to the 'Shoe, that demo will probably go elsewhere.

Tomorrow... Pop Up Rockwell will rock what's possible for Cleveland's downtown streets Published: Friday, April 20, 2012, 5:15 AM By Tom Breckenridge, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A stretch of urban back road will become a green, kicky showcase for what's possible in the downtown street grid. Starting Saturday, Pop Up Rockwell will transform five blocks of Rockwell Avenue into a testing ground for two-way bicycle lanes, sidewalk benches that filter runoff and public art. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/04/post_7.html

Nice. SoHo livens up that side of the street right now and a patio will turn it up a notch. It's sort of like 'back to 1998' with the Rialto block and the Heil block sitting empty. Will be much better when you have neighbors again!
