  1. Yeah I dont know if the first group of new amenities (Conv Center, Aquarium, Casino) will be enough to outweigh the lack of amenities that are not here in abundance, as mentioned. A better fixed up Euclid Ave with a couple boutique hotels would do wonders though for 'first impressions'. By then also, the Market District should be really interesting. Those two things (restored Euclid Ave and Market District) will improve the pedestrian experience for this event. Also, there might be a lot more activity in Akron?
  2. smith, is it looking like the patio will be open be early May?
  3. Best restaurant review ever, is the one that you do yourself. I never (and I can actually use that strong of a word here) take restaurant advice from others. Of course Im interested to hear what somebody has to say but it stops about there. Check this guy out from last July 1 (2011). He's from the Clevleand Leader. At the end, he's actually predicting Market Garden Brewery would be closed before being a year old. And he bases this all on his visit to a 3- or 4-week old establishment. MGB ,of course, had issues with the onslaught of business at their debut but this is riduculous... http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/17103
  4. ^^And ,Voila!, an intense critique. I will go all the more frequently here now because it is good. And I will impress upon my friends and family to get their butts in there pronto. I guess to offset the negativity.
  5. ^Wow, what a great image (prior page). I wonder if the trees are going in at some point as shown in this rendering
  6. If keeping every server from leaving a restaurant is the sign of a good restaurant, that is an awfuly high standard to maintain. Virtuallly impossible for any place, be it 3 days old or 3 years or 30 years old
  7. ^^^ It seems like Santorini is proceeding but at a slower pace than anybody wanting authentic Greek cuisine would prefer. It's like 'hurry up!'. Same sentiments I have for Barroco on W. 6th....can't wait for that one either. This from the Scene... New Burger Bar Coming to Warehouse District Posted by Douglas Trattner on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 10:50 AM "Fadi Daoud closed his Mediterranean-themed restaurant Zdara in the Warehouse District around New Year's Eve, stating it wasn't the right fit for the neighborhood. He has settled upon another concept that he thinks will succeed: burgers." http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2012/04/12/new-burger-bar-coming-to-warehouse-district
  8. Yeah I believe so as well (sort of like the Terminal Tower). Also they need to replace most of the lights at the top and elsewhere on the Wyndham Hotel. No, this CPA (that's their old name, it's something else now)...this CPA project hasnt changed physically. The lights only go about half way down. It's called "Chorus Line" and there is a picture of it on a photo thread from about a year ago (one of Mayday's?). The Wyndham needs some TLC definitely. Playhouse Sq was really rocking last night,as was most of downtown... Euclid Ave, Prospect Ave, E. 9th , E. 14th, Ontario, and also W Prospect and into the WHD. Yes there were a couple of events but it got me to wondering how hopping it's going to be when there are events going on + the the Casino and rejuvenated Flats, etc etc.
  9. So this is a 'go' then? This was the controversial issue on W. 25th, or at least it was before the Marlin Kaplan debacle of DF and Garage. This is "Town Hall" (last I heard what they were calling it). A group headed by Fabio Salerno of Lago and Mr. George --- can't think of his first name. THere was worry that it'd be a nightclub. Doesn't sound like it
  10. This cannot not happen Dan Gilbert's plans for a casino overlooking the Cuyahoga River: Whatever happened to? Whatever happened to Dan Gilbert's plans for a casino on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River? Rock Ohio Caesars remains committed to building what is referred to as the second phase of the casino in downtown Cleveland, said Jennifer Kulczycki, spokeswoman for the joint venture headed by Gilbert. read the rest at : http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/04/dan_gilberts_plans_for_a_casin.html
  11. Cant wait for 5 Guys. Yes it is part of a national downsizing. I agree about the limited selection but I did try to support them as much as possible. I try to keep the purchases within Cleveland proper whenever possible. Maybe that's becoming an old-fashioned concept?
  12. Amen to that! Some areas on these streets you mentioned are just plain embarassing. Of course, it's not only these 3 streets. Just an observation.
  13. If my knowledge of Detroit geography serves me right, the list of 5 other Michigan stores are all in counties outside of Wayne County. So it looks like Whole Foods is settling in the core city of Wayne County (Detroit) instead of a Wayne suburb. All of NEO's existing or planned Whole Foods are in Cuyahoga County and in inner-ring suburbs, I even consider Woodmere in that category with all of its commercial activity. I'd guess that if there wasn't one built in suburban University Hts in 2008, that Whole Foods might have considered University Circle, or another Cleveland neighborhood today.
  14. Coming soon...Good for Detroit! "Whole Foods Market is incredibly excited to announce our newest store location in Michigan, which will be located at John R. and Mack in Midtown, Detroit"... read the rest at: http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/midtown/
  15. With an increasing downtown residential population, I was thinking the same thing.
  16. Oh scheisse. This was very convenient to downtown
  17. Happy to see the 668 Bldg getting something on those walls. Intereseting to see that the Hampton Inn is back on board with this. LAst year a Huntington Bank banner had to be removed from the Superior Ave wall on that building after being up only a short time. Didn't go through the proper channels or something like that?? Same thing went for the Cambridge Bldg in the WHD, it also had a Huntington banner.
  18. ^Thanks! There was talk about where the main entrance would be. THis is the portion on the back of Higbee's with access to Prospect Ave. For those old enough to remember, these are the Prospect Ave doors that you'd take the staircase up from the main floor of Higbee's fabulous first floor. I'm thinking it makes sense that this would be the main entrance (besides, of course, the PS side) since it is nearest most of the parking. Like the PS side, it has 1 large flag above its doors... This work was taking place today
  19. iirc, I had to stand corrected on this question a year or so ago and the one that was first listed by everyone was Little Bar and Grill on Frankfort. But, wait, maybe the question back then was "downtown neighborhood bars". I can't remember.
  20. In talking with Mitchell's Ice Cream, they said that they are finalizing construction plans and "should be in there by the end of the year".
  21. Regarding Fat Fish Blue's replacement. The concept is what it is and if it is an underperforming place for TK then it will close. Do I wish that it was in a different location? yes. Understatement of the year. In the end, I do like storefronts getting leased downtown. B-Spot could've set up an outpost in this space and made a killing, but instead we have two hidden-away B-Spots downtown. there could've been a multitude of better things here. 2 good things about this...I like the way it becomes 'open-air' when the full length (louvered?) glass doors/windows are open. And yesterday it appeared as though the 10-story parking garage that sits above this ground floor retail is getting painted. It was a nice beige. Don't know if it is the final color, or if they're doing the entire garage, but it looks much better. It's currently discolored and rusted in places.
  22. And for anybody intrigued by the Tilted Kilt, these nice girls were doing PR today. The pub and eatery isnt open yet though.
  23. Yes, I'm guessing the same thing after most of the heavy truck traffic for this phase is gone. I'm always for lighting anywhere. The right lighting really changes everything.
