  1. Opening day is Saturday January 21
  2. "Calfee is just about done isn't it?" the parking garage is underway. I could say 'well underway'
  3. Barroco Grill recently posted on FB that they are opening a location on W. 6th,
  4. "It's going to be a coffee shop." Good, that's even better news. I'd prefer it on Euclid. Ideally in the post-WW2 Berlin storefront in the WT Grant building... the remainig eyesore of that part of downtown (2nd & Euclid). And one in Ohio City too
  5. "The more neon the better." This big bright sign is what's needed down there, this area is essentially CSU's eastern edge with the University Studios apartments across the street and college students usually around -- down to E. 30th now. But I cannot think, for the llife of me, why they put ithe sign above the DNA/Paternity Testing Ctr next door. Unless that is relocating and Pasha Cafe is eventually expanding to take up that adjacent storefront. If not, somebody hung that up wrong.
  6. ^ Thank you for bringing 1) clarity and 2) reality to this emotion-filled topic.
  7. New today... the windows of Caddyshack are papered, permits (Im pretty sure) are taped to the windows, and dumpsters are parked out front (likely ready for interior demo). I'd say this must be for Dim and Den Sum, or whatever it will be called.
  8. The rooftop patio has been discussed various places...excuse me while I enjoy my carry-out babaganoush and Moonlight Honey smoothie from Taza on W.6th...chomp chomp, slurp slurp...God I have waited years to have Lebanese in walking distance...chomp, slurp. Sorry, but as i was saying it's been discussed. For instance, here: Cleveland Magazine September 2011
  9. "Yeah. It was this building: http://g.co/maps/gfdxu" "the Alhambra Apartments on Wade Park Ave in Hough are being demoed" 2 more casualties in Clevleand's unstoppable march towards...
  10. Before this message board's posters start to pile on Crop Bistro's space too bad, I would like to say that my dining experienxe there was great. All of our food was superb. We sat in the raised section and I had both a great view of the restaurant and also the great view outside the tall windows at dusk. I can only think how nice that view outside Lorain Ave's tall windows will be next summer when Market Sq Park is completed, the rooftop patio is open at MGB in the distance and the activity on the street gets turned up a notch...which naturally comes with warmer weather. I enjoyed the expansiveness of the restaurant. It is also a fabulous setting just to sit in the bar area and have drinks.
  11. Thanks for all the info
  12. "We need to find a way to turn Larchmere into Tremont East." I like that idea. If there is a place on the east side that is like Tremont, it would have to be Larchmere. Btw smith the signage on Soho looks great.
  13. At least the CHina Gate restaurant is coming back. That's a classic. But, yes, the setbacks and surface parking here are awful.
  14. ^Yes and if you read some of the FB posts for Maggie's there are several people who have found it closed. The bakery doesnt seem to adhere to any set of hours. Example...last night this bakery was, by all outward appearances, open past its closing time.
  15. Probably not many want to publicly align themselves with this until the Dimora trial is over and there is no impropriety associated with it. That should be sometime next year?
  16. I did notice a livelier vibe tonight too. 60 degree weather and the fact that Christmas Ale was available only tonight (and only at the OC brewpub -- until it goes on sale Monday) helped draw the extra crowds. ...Over to the east side, a loss for the Larchmere District: Haviland of Lucky's Fame to Shutter East Side Vine & Bean Posted by Douglas Trattner on Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 11:01 AM http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2011/10/24/haviland-of-luckys-fame-to-shutter-east-side-vine-and-bean
  17. I am not a Scene admirer by any stretch (although they do have great restaurant news), but the last sentence from the above story had me laughing uncontrollably... "This also means in some hospital basement somewhere some X-Ray technician is banging his head against a panel because he was really hoping Defibrilation Fest '13 would be held in a location where he could grab a tan in March and catch a country show. Sorry man, you might be heading our way." Good sarcasm is good sarcasm.
  18. Dear Jmasek, Who is responsible for the trees planted on the sidewalk of the lower Euclid Corridor? I am talking specifically of the many dead ones in front of The 515 Euclid Ave parking garage and some around The PNC Bldg. Also, there are some in front of the House of Blues and alongside the 200 PS Bldg. Generally speaking... anywhere on Euclid between E. 9th and Public Square. The original ones planted in 2008 made it through a season before they died in Spring 2010. Then, replacements were planted autumn 2010. These (replacements) never bloomed this spring 2011, so all summer these bare twigs baked in the hot sun and continue to sit there as potential kindling and eyesores. Looks podunk-y and emabarassing. If RTA is not responsible...perhaps you know who is and I can re-direct my comments to them. Thank you
  19. This is my favorite CH house, well, non-mansion anyway. This is just off S. Taylor Rd. if Im remembering correctly
  20. RE Spice http://thespiceblog.com/
  21. ^cool. mcmick, again, Congrats. Do you know what nailed it for Cleveland getting this event? What was in the proposal? Also, I noticed that your Cleve visit in 2006 does not appear that it included Fenn Tower, the Coast Guard Station or Landmark Towers. Those should be must-sees for 2017. Maybe these places (well, 2 of them for sure) can get some TLC before the big day? Oh, was there a San Francisco visit in 2010? The 20th Century website (www.20thcs.org) still is describing the itinerary for the trip (as though it hasn't happened yet) and there are no pictures. Unless there's something I'm not seeing, does the site need updated?
  22. I think the moon is gonna work, I hope it goes up. They've got to keep the illumination and everything else about it in good maintenance though or it could become a 'minus'.
  23. Today is the first day i've seen this on my drive home...they started boarding up the storefronts in the Truman Bldg. Hopefully forward progress
  24. Whoa I did not know that this conversation was taking place yesterday. Very rarely can I follow multiple threads from work...the nature of my work won't allow for it. FWIW, I think phase 2 will be built.
