Cleveland: a morning in Glenville and Hough [Part 1]
Totally agree with ^ and ^^. Yes, if you're gonna venture into some of the tougher neighborhoods, make sure you can get something more viewable. I dig the house with the columns, I believe thats on South Blvd and a couple ( ♂♂ ) renovated it some years back. Unless this is the owners after them.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
^Ugh... Well some observations from today. I got excited when I saw Coming Soon signs for "Bank Street Wine and Spirits". I love references to the original street names of the WHD. As I read on...no, not a lounge or classy bar. Actually a State Liquor Agency going into the closed Lust space. At least somebody's taking advantage of the venerable "Bank Street" name. The lights were up bright inside Taza, slated to open soon. That interior has fascinating historic features and Taza's take on it looks really good, although I only had a quick glance and they also look like they've got more to do. Also, blade sign is up for drop bar.

Great. Keep this moving forward. Tourists...specifically convention-goers (read CC/MM attendees)...like diverse entertainment options. We're gonna be selling conventions certainly in a couple years. Well, I know we've started already.

"now that you own the Ritz-Carlton that you bought in the Spring, can you put the flags up on the poles?" While I was out and about this weekend, I noticed the Ritz haz put up the 4 flags on the exterior poles. Alright! Thanks to whomever brought this to their attention.

Cleveland: Richman Bros. Site Re-Development
From the article: "The sturdy brown-brick behemoth rises six stories on cement columns the size of tree trunks. It houses a theater and a chapel." Anybody been urban exploring here and seen the remnants of either of these?

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Great vibe at Playhouse Sq all weekend. Added patrons to the mix all helps to attain critical mass in the area and that will be bolstered still by the Second Stage and Lab Theater opening this Winter and aslo later by the Middough Bldg just down 13th St. Looks like work has recently begun on Zach Bruell's Cowell & Hubbard. I wonder if they'll be open before the end of the year? Also, that Starbucks at the corner of 14th St is the best in NEO.

Wow, possibly a 100 million makeover... Cleveland developers say 'Hello China!' with a video and a dream Published: Saturday, September 17, 2011, 8:00 PM By Robert L. Smith, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer "More than 3,000 people once worked at the massive Richman Bros. complex on East 55th Street, stitching and tailoring men's suits for the largest clothing chain in America. When he walks the empty colossus today, Derek Ng (pronounced "ing") envisions a different scenario on floors that stretch like football fields." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/09/cleveland_developers_say_hello.html#incart_hbx

Cleveland's Rusty Flats: Columbus Peninsula
"You clinking, clanking, clattering collection of collagenous Cleveland!!" Definitely an old Flats street. Was just on it today, the Sunoco at the top of the street rules when it comes to downtown gas stations. Too bad you missed some of the flat irons and tall brick chimneys.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
"the Transformer Station, as it will be called" Love this building, always have. Does the house next door come with it? I hope they nix that green at the entrance and on the house next door which could really be a beauty if done right. Looks like they used the same can of paint on both. RE the neighborhood. Isn't this Cleveland's gayest little neighborhood? Although there are some very sketchy areas not far away (north of here). Just south of here are some of OC's best homes on Clinton Ave (great Victorians). And, yes, Graham Veysey's purchase of an original OC Fire Station is just right across the street. Give this area a few more years... it may really take off.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I was against the addition of this Welcome Ctr and the deleterious effect that it now has on the Lower Prospect neighborhood (I do not think, though, that this neighborhood is so fragile that it will not carry on). Having said that, I am all for this skywalk and hope the vibe is something akin to, I don't know, umm Greektown in Detroit. I'm going to hazard a guess that my 13 years of living in the CBD is one of the longer tenures of anyone on this message board. I have walked countless times in every kind of weather at almost every hour of the day. Not to mention all of the times as a teenager and college student before moving here. To the post that says if the streets are just kept cleaned and de-iced, I would say fat chance on that. I can remember some of my jaunts around huge pools of slush and ice, where there was just no place for it to go, and not enough warmth from the sun to make it melt. Going from point A to B in downtown Cleveland in the heart of winter can certainly be an adventure sometimes. Don't misinterpret, I'm not complaining...after all, I'm still down here and I look forward to the coming snowfalls and whiteouts that await us. But I can see this cutting into business at a casino that is going to rely on day-trippers, etc. Some people just won't go and that's bad for business. Forget too Gibert's desire to involve the urban fabric, he's a businessman. I just can't see this skywalk not getting built (unless they go with a tunnel...I'm also for that). Why else have the damn Welcome Ctr. The whole raison d'être of the thing is to have ...as Marcus Glover has repeatedly said...a continuous climate-controlled entryway to the Casino from the vehicle. The huge majority are going to drive here. As evidenced by our vast array of parking lots/garages, most people clearly drive here for everything downtown. Yes I wish that was different, and yes I wish that would change. But it's not gonna change in the next 8 months. And this 7-8 million that it may cost Rock, I can only believe that is chump change to them. Hell, with the onslaught of these money-savvy gamblers, even some...dare I say...swindler-types, there'll be more than enough "oh I slipped and tripped on your icy sidewalk outside the Welcome Ctr, my lawyer will contact your lawyer" to ring up 7 million over a few winters.

This is the first that I've seen "Dunham Square" alluded to anywhere (MidtownTech Park at Dunham Square). http://www.midtowntechpark.com/ A portent of things to come?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
This is waaay early but this blurb in a Crain's article is interesting. Im guessing this is that late-1800s building at the foot of W. 9th (FEB project area). "...plans by mid-2013 to open Portside Distillery, a 5,000-square-foot restaurant, brewery and distillery on West Ninth Street in Cleveland's Warehouse District." Since it's Crain's... copying/pasting the address below in a google search is necessary for non-subscribers. I actually like how this looks. Btw, the signage is not all up. Page 97 of this thread shows what all will go up, including things like LED displays etc. It looks like the 4 long banners were put up late today.

Cleveland East-South-West - Three new train stations
"Purple should not be a part of any structure that is not an amusement park ride. Uggh!" I tend to agree with this. Interestingly...this is just down the street from this station (at least it was 2 yrs ago when I took this pic):

They've been working on it and are actually working on the exterior right now -- tonight. "Why are they not tearing down that ugly building" Yeah I wish they would've just knocked down all of these back in the day. ^Thanks. The Rochester, NY house is definitely a look-a-like for the Dunham. It looks like they may be painting the Dunham red too.

Yes this is not my thread. I see you've edited me out. That is a very unfortunate story on the Apama art. Truly tasteless and without class on behalf of those involved in the change of ownership.

That coast guard station is a treasure. This summer St. Ignatius renovated the mall area of its campus (a small portion of it seen here) with new lighting and landscaping to ensure its commitment to the neighborhood as a campus that is not walled-off. It's nice and great for picture-taking. Also helps to connect Lorain Ave over to the Carroll - Bridge Ave area (Heck's Cafe area).
