  1. "And I live on a planet called "Keep the thread on topic or it gets locked!" which happens to have a moon called "how the f#ck do you people have so much free time during the day to post your damned diatribes?!?" MayDay, that is just too delicious.
  2. Accdg to the tweets the GHT rooftop is open http://thegreenhousetavern.com/social/
  3. Zack Bruell to open restaurant in Cowell & Hubbard building near PlayhouseSquare By Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer Thursday, June 30, 2011, 8:00 PM A former gem on downtown Cleveland's retail landscape is about to gain new luster. This fall, the longtime flagship location of Cowell & Hubbard Co. jewelers will become home to Zack Bruell's fifth restaurant in the city. With its 18-foot ceilings and expansive windows, the space at 1305 Euclid Ave. will be converted into a modern French-themed dining room. http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2011/06/zack_bruell_to_open_restaurant.html
  4. Thanks. I thought that was the best way to characterize it too
  5. The Scene's quick review of McNulty's new brewery... Best thing, aside form the beer and food of course, is the mention that the rooftop patio is planned to open next year. Also, Saigon Grille on Superior Ave. is now open. Beer Here! Market Garden Brewery opens in Ohio City by Douglas Trattner http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/bites/Content?category=1520384
  6. My enthusiasm is back up! Sounds like a second location of the Eton Taza. I certainly hope. So we will have a "Tazo" and a "Taza"? I looked yesterday evening and the Tazo location is on Rockwell Ave., kinda between E. 6th and E. 9th (closer to E. 9th actually) as RR pointed out.
  7. Nate's on 25th (totally authentic) , and now Taza (for late hours and booze) on 6th. Can't forget Zdara on 9th. The more Middle Eastern downtown, the better. ****EDIT: I've been told to quell the enthusiasm. Supposedly there is a place called "Tazo" Martini Lounge going in somewhere around E. 6th and Rockwell. Oh well
  8. I think you mean Broadway Bagels. They had a location at Mayfield & Richmond. Later, a location at BWood Place popped up but that may be gone too? IMO, they were the best.
  9. While I completely despise the outcome of the Landmarks Commission regarding the Columbia, it was always comforting to know that the Stanley, for all intent and purpose, was off the table for Dan Gilbert's casino. Neither he, nor Rock Ohio Caesars (name?), nor Lou Frangos, nor Frangos' shady front companies ever owned the Stanley; although, Frangos contested the Maloofs (majority owners) in court. Still ongoing? The removal of the Columbia seriously changes the Lower Prospect neighborhood and I am (have been) all in it now for the Columbia. In the meantime, the Stanley is officially under restoration and should 'wow' everybody despite the context of a surrounding Hot Wheels set. I think the outcry over the Columbia, which is still ongoing, will cause higher scrutiny of the Welcome Center's design. Or at least I hope so. Or better yet, never get built as currently proposed.
  10. 1 word acronym...UDF at Mayfield & Belvoir oh, and Otani. Clevleand's original Japanese restaurant
  11. Awesome. Great photos of a great event
  12. Facade restoration is moving along at Tomo Japanese restaurant on W. 9th
  13. Does anybody know the whereabouts of the beveled glass top window at Something Different gallery in the Market District? It was removed several weeks ago http://cbk0.google.com/cbk?output=tile&cb_client=maps_sv&panoid=ATK57kbBcTVs7xGN78chCA&x=0&y=0&zoom=2

  15. ^ top-notch
  16. The point-and-shoot camera was well worth it...
  17. THM I'm very glad that you have everything figured out to the point of being the self-appointed arbiter of vintage buildings -- should they stay or should they go? And, interestingly enough, things have got to be done in "your lifetime". WHD 1980s is like a Lower Prospect of today. It'd be nice to have as much of Gateway around for future generations. As of today...5.20.11...the Stanley is staying and the Columbia is sending out an S.O.S. Needless to say, I prefer the Stanley over the Columbia...if I regeretfully have to choose one over the other. Very controversial stance evidently. I think it's the historically more significant building. Shocking. But there should be NO reason to alter our cityscape permanently if this is a temporary Casino.

  20. Hey THM (aka Mr Downtown) The Grand Arcade used to be the City Mission. People didn't like walking by that at night, or day for that matter. The arguement is flawed.
  21. Btw, if something "suspicious" happens to the Stanley one evening, like that place last year at E. 14th & Euclid -- you know, how convenient that was in creating an insta-lot -- I'll be sure to show the CPD some of the posts on this board
  22. Dan Gilbert has nothing to do with the Stanley, unless something surreptitious is going on à la the Columbia and Stafford.
  23. The Stanley hating on this board is...well...weird, but I digress. With the completion of this Welcome Ctr, will the under-construction Visitors Center that is currently taking shape about 2 blocks away be rendered unnecessary?? How many welcoming centers do we need? And there is yet another one going in the 200 PS Bldg Huntington Building just 1 block away. The best welcome to a city is pedestrian-oriented street level retail, restaurants with traffic calming measures.
