  1. A new opening at the familiar space on Carnegie Carnegie Kitchen and Dining to open at site of Verve in downtown Cleveland: Restaurant Row By Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer Updated: Tuesday, March 08, 2011, 3:51 PM What's not to love about a spacious, airy, sun-filled room designed with engaging sculptural details. Especially when its location is smack in the "middle of one of downtown's busiest transportation corridors..." http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2011/03/carnegie_kitchen_and_dining_to.html
  2. First Interstate commits to buying 90 acres of former Oakwood Club in Cleveland Heights By Michelle Jarboe, The Plain Dealer Updated: Tuesday, March 08, 2011, 8:54 PM CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- First Interstate Properties will buy 90 acres of the former Oakwood Club in Cleveland Heights, rounding out its purchase of a rare undeveloped tract in Cleveland's close-lying suburbs. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/03/first_interstate_commits_to_bu.html
  3. NOACA Governing Board Approves $600,000 for Professor Avenue Intersection Improvements! Inside Tremont Vol. 26, Issue 1 January, 2011 "Seventeen Northeast Ohio bicycle and pedestrian, multi-purpose trail, and streetscaping projects moved one step closer to implementation. At its December 10th meeting, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency Governing Board approved approximately $9 million in federal transportation enhancement (TE) funding for projects in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties... ...The four intersections along Professor Avenue, including the intersection with Jefferson Avenue, College Avenue, Literary Avenue, and Fairfield Avenue (conceptual drawing above), are several such intersections. Currently, the angle of the intersections and/ or the length of the crosswalks are not optimal for nonvehicular traffic. This proposed project will work to address these problems by decreasing the length of the crosswalks through curb bump-outs and curb radius reductions..." http://tremontwest.org/index/cms-filesystem-action?file=newsletters/january2011.pdf
  4. Cant wait to see the R3 Domain. http://r3domain.com/Who_are_we_.html
  5. Lelolai Bakery is gone from W. 25th St and planning a move elsewhere. http://www.lelolaibakery.com/content/00/01/37/68/64/userimages/february%2028%202011%20letter%20to%20friends%20of%20Lelolai.pdf This weekend I saw some of the construction workers outside of the former Lelolai. They said it is under renovation for a new restaurant. They didnt elaborate any further.

This makes me want to throw on some Cleveland pictures now! замечательный picture
  7. As time goes on, hopefully there will be a shift away from the strip centers and enclosed shopping malls of Asiatown, although many have repurposed the existing brick warehouses in that area or copied that look in the new construction. In the meanwhile...there is a new restaurant in the Payne Commons (3710 Payne Ave.). The 'Map of Thailand' is open 7 days a week, opens at 11 AM. Also, the longtime corner fixture at 3216 Payne Ave. -- Eastern Sun Laundry launderette -- is back in operation.
  8. These photos that I took in October '09 show that the banners have been up for a year-and-a-half now... so, no, a Vegeterian resaturant has never opened yet. I don't know about the Temple but I highly doubt it. There is work going on over there, or at least was. The first floor retail entrances and the garage entrance now have very beautiful doors, in my opinion... picture-taking worthy. That's all I can tell that's different. A look in some of the upstairs windows, you can see ladders making me think there has been an attempt at renovation. How thorough it is -- at the moment -- is anybody's guess. Even though many pics have been moved around in my Photobucket account and do not show up on this old thread, there are 3 at the end that show the "Rockwell Chinatown". http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,21433.0.html
  9. Denajua's back, with Le Oui Oui Crepe Cafe in Cleveland's University Circle: Restaurant Row By Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer Updated: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 8:00 AM "A city's just not a city without quirky little fun places with quirky characters who run them. Finally, Cleveland's got some of its best "quirk" back. Le Oui Oui Crepe Cafe and its peripatetic owner, Denajua (who divides her time between Cleveland and Paris, where her husband, Didier, resides), are back on the scene. 10. Terrific photos. Lovely neighborhood.
  11. The end of last week and now tonight, I see that the lights are on in the ground floor of that infill University Lofts bldg (next to the B&N campus bookstore). There is some construction equipment and building supplies in there but I havent been able to find anything out.
  12. How do you spell Little Italy? a.u.t.h.e.n.t.i.c.
  13. Mods, can you please rename this thread the "Calfee Building"?
  14. ^ Probably not likely in early December of 2011. According to Cleveland Construction the timetable is "TBD". "Cleveland Construction, Inc. is currently working on preconstruction services for the renovation and preservation of the 14-story Schofield Building in downtown Cleveland." http://www.clevelandconstruction.com/InteriorDetail.aspx?ProjectID=75
  15. Didnt know about this. One of the places to shop in Midtown appears as though it's going to be getting a facelift. I wonder how extensive and historically accurate this will be. There's some great detail on this bldg at 5005 Euclid Ave. "Cleveland Construction will manage the complete renovations of the 166,721 square-foot multiple-story structure along with the addition of a new entrance for the buildings office workers." http://www.clevelandconstruction.com/InteriorDetail.aspx?ProjectID=94
  16. To be known as the Calfee Bldg, this is going to be terrific. Expect the exterior and lobby to be finished sometime this summer (scheduled for June). "Cleveland Construction’s work on the Rockwell Building includes restoration of the exterior façade, ornamental metal entry doors, reinstatement of ornate plaster ceilings in the multi-story atrium, reconditioning of the building’s existing historical clock, replacement of all windows with historic replicas and installation of new mechanical and electrical systems for the buildings tenant." http://www.clevelandconstruction.com/InteriorDetail.aspx?ProjectID=81
  17. Wherever it is Im gonna try to make it.
  18. The 2 large canvas blade signs are up on the Bingham, they're not bad at all. The lighting has been changed and I've seen it from deep vivid purples on some nights to cool blues on others. I get the sense that it's LED but I don;t know. It's different, looks great in my opinion.
  19. Btw, I think that the company referred to in this thread and the University Circle Developments (General) thread is called WXZ. (as opposed to XYZ)
  20. I believe that 327 is talking about Gust Galluci's around 65th & Euclid. It's probably the biggest reason why city residents and suburbanites visit that immediate area. I'd like to point out that I just bought a substantial amount of groceries (ouch) this week from the University Circle Co-Op so I think that should qualify as a place to buy groceries in UC. To add to 327's "three neighborhood assets within 1/4 mile of each other" in Midtown...I would include the Dunham Tavern Museum, a small but important fourth asset.
  21. A quite comprehensive tour of downtown! Interesting thing for me is that despite the great tour you have only photographed 2 (for all intents and purposes) of my top-10 downtown buildings...the Rose Bldg and the Standard Bldg. Good to see the Standard in a photo thread. Rose Bldg Standard Bldg
  22. Ideally, development along Euclid Ave. in Midtown would proceed slowly over the next 3-5 years. In that timeframe the energy down the road in University Circle should really be at a peak...all 3 phases of MRN's Uptown development should be at or near completion. The CIA addition, the new MOCA, the University Hospitals building projects, the Courtyard Hotel, the glorious CMA expansion and the assorted residential projects in UC and next-door Little Italy should all be more than just renderings on a piece of paper, or past the under-construction phase. Also, CCF projects on Euclid may also be taking shape by then. UC is really on the precipice of some exciting times. It would not seem unlikely that a de facto extension of this occurs into the Midtown portion of Euclid Ave. as long as there is developable land and/or original buildings remaining. And it may occur in baby steps...being even longer than the 3-5 years...but if the neighborhood takes off as light industrial in the near future, it'll probably be difficult to know if the energy from UC would have ever made its way into Midtown. Once the retail, restaurants, apartments and museums are actual places that Clevelanders can visit, it may make apparent the potential of the entire Euclid Corridor. On the other hand, it could very well be that the UC dynamic stays confined to UC. Time will tell, but I hope it's the former and not the latter.
  23. From the MOCA groundbreaking... Cleveland Institute of Art:...Groundbreaking for the second phase of the two-part project, which calls for an addition to the institute's McCullough Center, could occur in late spring or early summer" http://media.cleveland.com/ent_impact_arts/photo/09egmocajpg-05d85bb2f3e93fd6.jpg The map contains information for still more projects and their timelines.
