  1. Here is a picture of the wide portion of the terrific All State Barber bldg showing a lot of the features that will be repaired. I think it is fantastic that this bldg is being rehabbed. I also can think of about 4 really distressed ones in the Market District that would be on my wish list for renovation.
  2. ♥ lol And who doesn't love Superman or Babe Ruth?

The bleacher wall along E. 66th St. is being replaced/restored. The ticket house will eventually be restored too. http://www.leaguepark.org/NewsArticle.aspx?ID=28
  4. Thanks! I did wear out 1 pair of good shoes and I needed a new set of brakes for the car. It's just a love for Cleveland. My great-grandfather was a high profile official during the Mayor Tom L. Johnson administration (arguably Cleveland's best mayor) and that love for Cleveland has been passed through the generations.
  5. Part II... At French & Merwin streets this is evidently the oldest building in the Flats. Also in the Flats, a piece of the long gone Central Viaduct. Remnants like these will most likely be removed for the Interbelt reconstruction. Former German baker, Clark-Fulton area. Part of the Tyler Village Warehouse complex just east of downtown. High up in the mid-portion of the Residences at 668 Bldg... a fading "Taylor's" wall sign. A throwback to when this building was William Taylor & Sons Department store. On Prospect Ave. downtown. Car stuff. Bank stuff. School stuff. This incredible former Catholic school on Scranton Rd. (first floor not pictured). Quick trip through some Cleveland neighborhoods... Glenville. The birthplace of Superman! This house off E. 105th St. is Glenville's claim to fame. Some remaining old commercial stock in Glenville. Hough. League Park, sacred ground in the baseball world. Cy Young pitched in the Opening game. Babe Ruth hit his 500th home run here. And on and on. The bleacher wall along E. 66th St. is being replaced/restored. The ticket house (pictured above) will eventually be restored too. http://www.leaguepark.org/NewsArticle.aspx?ID=28 Urban vineyard in Hough. Some old commercial stock. Cedar-Central The historic structures here are relatively few and far between since much has been lost to different waves of urban renewal. Many places stand alone or are sandwiched amongst large swaths of tract housing. The "Doll Houses" of E. 46th St. The c. 1875 Andrew Dall home at 2229 E. 46th. The c. 1880 James Dall home at 2225 E. 46th. A way-early version of the Cleveland double? (I took these pics this past Spring, I don't know if these were/are under renovation or not) This beauty on Central Ave. Ohio City close-ups. Back out to downtown.
  6. fyi, The more expensive a place gets, the more frequent this scene is.
  7. That is the view from within several Pinnacle units.
  8. I have seen this going up the past week or two. I hope you're right.
  9. Nice photos. I took pictures of the same things today. I'm adding this one below that shows the Market's corner location.
  10. I've mentioned here before my indifference to the Casino but after seeing what this may possibly do for that part of downtown...I say bring it on. It seems like a pretty large undertaking though. They're saying a "2013 opening". So, starting at Jan 1, 2011 (which is right around the corner) and giving them until Dec. 31, 2013 provides them with 36 months. That just doesn't seem enough time for this project as currently envisioned. And it is likely that they would want to be open (at least the retail part) for the Holiday shopping season of 2013. That possibly shortens the timeframe here to 34 months. Cutting it close.

Lakewood and Cleveland Heights, are more urban than many big cities. Every city has first-ring suburbs. This is nothing unique to Cleveland. I guess since I'm the one who started all this ("...AG relocation thread of all places") I should say that I proabably didn't realize the dearth of downtowners/Ohio Citians on UO from Cleveland.

At least you get Internet service down there,
  13. The difference is that Cleveland UOers live in city neighborhoods. (BTW, I consider Ohio City as downtown, since "downtown" to me is ~E. 30th to ~W. 30th) Sorry, back to topic
  14. 1 out of every 4 or 5 is not that unusual. If I had to hazard a guess... I would say that of the Cleveland contingent on Urban Ohio, probably 1 out of every 4 or 5 lives downtown. And this forum is a pretty downtown-centric group.
  15. ^Yes, I went to the Cedar-Center Whole Foods Mkt (after Univ Circle co-op didn't have somwething I needed) just after sunset tonight. Anyway, my drive took me through a lively, vibrant Little Italy up through an equally vibrant Coventry with packed restaurants and shoppers. Whole Foods Mkt was quite crowded too as well as its in-store eating area. On my way home I drove through the newly busy (at least for me since I haven't been over here for a while) intersection of Cedar & Taylor due to the popularity of Melt Bar-Grille. I continued down to Cedar-Fairmount which had a good deal of pedestrian traffic too. Finally on my way home, Playhouse Sq was filling up with theater-goers, etc. I'm sure the relatively mild November night contributed to all of the people out and about. It was all good to see.

I'm sure Mika Brzezinski ("little sidekick" and his MSNBC co-worker) knew what she was talking about, after all Chris Matthews Man-crush on Obama was/is well known. While many of these love affairs with Obama have waned across the country, Chris Matthews 'bromance' with Obama continues. So if I was a betting man, I'd say yes, he was on his way to tears.
  17. ^ Can't wait to see this one.
  18. I took these this Wednesday while walking around Case/LI so they are recent.
  19. Good news concerning E. 40th & Prospect... Bites: Restaurant Opening in Heights Rockefeller Building And more local food news by Douglas Trattner "The good folks behind The Big Egg (5107 Detroit Ave., 216-281-1600), which opened in Ohio City just shy of two years ago, are already planning an expansion." 20. Tragic is the only word for this.

EC I really wouldn't fret over this but thanks for the props! Most people do not like cemeteries or looking at pictures of them. Most people also do not prefer snow/Winter or looking at it...especially while we're enjoying Indian Summer. Also this near-southeast side neighborhood (E.55th/Woodland, Woodland-Quincy, Scovill...however one refers to it) is probably the least admired and least understood in Cleveland. Probably a couple other pertinent things I haven't mentioned, nonetheless, it all adds up. If only 1 person saw it and realized how important this is to Cleveland's history, it was well worth the effort. :-)
  22. For pizza. West side... Danny Boy's on Lake Rd in River. Not the most traditional but the bread/dough is awesome. As is the entire menu. East side...Beach Club Bistro on LSB in downtown Euclid. Sort of an east side Danny Boy's. For the best, most traditional pizza...definitely Valentino's on Murray Hill.
  23. ^ Yes totally agree, superb shot.
