Recovery 2010: The Lake Erie Cities
Actually I think I remember seeing you. You were with 1 or 2 other guys at the E. 9th & Euclid intersection. I just remember thinking 'too bad these guys are walking around, possibly visitors from out of town, with nothing open/going on on a Sunday evening'. fyi, I was stopped at the red-light there that's why I had the time to give it this much thought. :)

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
That crossed my mind...well, a lot was crossing my mind...but the lower case letters confused me. Anyway the WHD is not going to be able to sustain itself, if it stays on this trajectory it's on. Trajectories like this usually evolve into downward spirals. Hopefully this NOACA prioritization of funds is a sign that many different "agencies" are moving fast to keep this a neighborhood and not a has-been entertainment district.

Recovery 2010: The Lake Erie Cities
I just assumed that these (the Cleveland ones) were taken on an early Sunday evening. That is the only time that Cadillac Ranch's sidewalk patio is closed, IIRC?

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Btw I don't know if this has been discussed on here but the whole reason why the Cancer Hospital has been constructed as it is (free-standing, which is not the norm) and the inclusion of a hotel directly across the street is because of the ongoing effort to get the exemption from the "ceiling" on Medicare payments. This takes an act of Congress. To have a free-standing building is one of the basic criteria and, as this 2008 article states (and does a better job than I could), it could propel UH into the top echelon of cancer care (a magnet for patients, their families, sales people, visiting physicians, etc). Last I heard UH has not yet received this exemption. I was further told it is now not expected. Anyway the hotel would do fine now with emerging Uptown District and all of the UC attractions in general. So forward motion with the hotel it seems. It would be great for Cleve though (despite the protests of CCF) to get this exemption. http://blog.cleveland.com/medical/2008/06/uh_seeking_exemption_for_new_c.html EDIT: Maybe this is the wrong thread for this?

Yes that is the view. It will be directly behind the Charter One/Starbucks etc. with the entrance on Cornell Rd. opposite UH's new Cancer Hospital (hosp. set to open this coming Spring)

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Griffon's been closed for several months. No idea about any relocation. Back in the day they did framing, etc. for me. Disappointed to see little places like that leave the District. I don't know if same kind of retail is replaceing it or eatery/drinkery.

The change here at Wyse is marginally better but I'll take it in a heartbeat over what was there. I'm going on the premise that it's completed. Now it gives off a faint vibe of a department store home furnishings area --emphasize 'faint'. It fits better, although more things to look at would help...they could go with the home furnishings theme and put a shelf full of Lalique or something (that's understated... if that's how it is supposed to be). It'd have been nice to see some brighter colors chosen. All in all it's not bad.

The old Griffon Gallery space on W. 9th has a "Lease agreed" sign on the window and lights are on in there tonight. No hint as to what's moving in.

Moreland Hills house still standing
Interesting follow-up story to former Cleveland Browns coach's home in suburban Chagrin Valley... Robiskie's sliding hilltop home in Moreland Hills; Whatever happened to ...? Sunday, October 10, 2010, 10:00 PM Plain Dealer staff Whatever happened to the Moreland Hills house owned by former Cleveland Browns receivers coach Terry Robiskie that was reported to be sliding off a hilltop onto Chagrin River Road? Surprisingly, little has changed at the bucolic wooded site during the five years since Terry Robiskie and his wife, Cynthia, won a $1.6 million court verdict for a home they considered worthless. Despite dire predictions of the rambling mansion's inevitable demise without $1 million to repair and buttress the foundation, those prophesies never came to pass. The E. 3rd Street mews is a great idea and will pull the Mall up to Superior. Awesome. Just across the street from the Arcade's Superior entrance, I should say 'sort of' across from.

Restoration of Cleveland's Cozad-Bates house
It will certainly be a great day when the entire home is restored. For the past many years I believe it has been vacant but if you read some of the comments at the bottom of this PreservationNation piece, there are some first-hand accounts of former residents... http://blogs.nationaltrust.org/preservationnation/?p=8411 Yes, Strap, Joan Southgate is doing/has done a phenomenal job with this. She is to be saluted without a doubt!

Restoration of Cleveland's Cozad-Bates house
In late August the restoration of the roof at the Cozad house was completed. I did not realize that only the roof would be repaired, but that is all for the time being until more funds are raised to complete the whole house. The house is part of the old residential street of E. 115th St between Cornell and Mayfield. For decades, University Hospitals/CWRU wanted to level this short but sweet street for expanded institution buildings and --- you guessed it --- more parking decks and garages. The street is surrounded by multi-level parking garages. Alas on April 7, 2006 University Hospitals donated the home to UCI which, with the assistance of Cleveland Restoration Society, Inc. and Restore Cleveland Hope Inc., will return this home to its former glory. This pre-Civil War house (the back portion) was a stop on the Underground Railroad. An Underground Railroad Education Center and Resource Center will be established here. http://www.restoreclevelandhope.org/ part of the 1853 house The 1872 Italianate

Cincinnati: The Old St. Mary's 14K
The church is absolutely lovely. I dig the bright colors on the old commercial buildings. I wish we'd do that up here in Cleveland (I dunno there may be a couple)...it would work in Ohio City and some of the CBD buildings. Can you send us a few gallons?
