Downtown Detroit in Danger of Demolition
And Why would they raze that building in Greektown? It looked perfectly fine in the picture. I hate to see stuff like this lost anywhere.

Eastside Cleveland Salons
^ Yeah. For a haircut. They've got the best places (for the eastside---which includes the eastside suburbs)

Eastside Cleveland Salons
like I said earlier... Eventually try out Chagrin. They know how to do it up right out there. And it's in a real downtown setting , albeit c.1880s

Eastside Cleveland Salons
^ That's because the population of the Sun Belt (i.e. South and Southwest USA) keeps increasing , so there is a constant demand for more and more of that. The population up here (Northern USA) keeps decreasing...unfortunately

Eastside Cleveland Salons
Just check the offerings in downtown Chagrin Falls. For the eastside of Cuyahoga Cty ,downtown Chagrin falls has probably the best of a lot of stuff... everything from a haircut to clothes to food.

Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
Thank god you came along to grace us with such brand new epiphanies? Apparently we've been living under rocks because lord knows we've never heard similar observations before. All I did was give feedback from the insider perspective as to why things are the way they are - and why things in Cleveland aren't the same as other cities, not a boosterish defense of why they're that way. See the difference? Are we not allowed to respond to outsiders' observations? Yeah I was going to say something similar. I wasnt really sure what that second post was supposed to mean, but the observation was likely somewhat accurate, but it is important to understand why this would be (which apply named clueless didnt seem to understand), wheather you view it as a bad thing or not. My posts were obviously misinterpreted. And you guys got into name-calling etc. I really don't see where I was negative. Maybe you "read" things differently than I was "speaking" things , I don't know... with a different inflection or something. ***The usage of the smiley with the rolly eyes was meant as a humorous thing. It was meant to show someone looking up , for instance , at flag flying or whatever. It was not used as a "rolling your eyes" kind of thing. Which has negative connotations and which I've been told is what this smiley is usually used for. I was using it for humor , much like my 3rd post. Man I hope no one from out-of-town says anything bad when they're here for the Games.

I'm guessing the entrepreneurial stuff will happen too. And that is great for the city of Cleveland.

From what I said...these are just observations. They're observations that are OK good for Cleveland to know about.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Here is a small news bulletin from the Allegro website detailing the plans for the Morse Graphics Building. It looks like it's originates from Crain's Cleveland. (Mods, if I need to change this, let me know) http://www.allegrorealty.com/media/images/gallery/CCB%20Allegro%20Downtown%20Project%20092109.pdf

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I'm guessing you're talking about that new construction on Detroit Ave. The sign out front says "Happy's Pizza" . There's one on Euclid Ave. (between Lee and Noble?) in East Cleveland... it's a nice looking place...a lot of curb appeal and neon signage. It definitely adds some liveliness to that area of E. Cleve. Although I've never ordered from there I wouldn't call it "gourmet" . It's pizza , wings , burgers ,etc. I could be wrong though. It probably has a chance to do well in DS.

Cleveland: Weston / Gilbane Warehouse District Plans
^ Thanks for the info. It'll make it easier for me to accept its eventual demise... I hope the Cambridge does not meet the same fate. It's almost 2010, we're supposed to be less likely to use the wrecking ball in the WD (or the whole city for that matter)... Less happy with the wrecking ball than ~1970 when , for example , this neighbor of the Cambridge Building (NW corner of W. 3rd and St. Clair) came tumbling down. It would be great if we still had this

Cleveland: Weston / Gilbane Warehouse District Plans
Yes the bricks should be used. (At the very least!! , save the bricks!) I didn't know about this building. I almost wish I didn't... I know this is a pipe dream... but the right (and smart) thing to do would be to save the building and try to incorporate it into the overall redevelopment. The same should be done with the Cambridge Building, which is now shrouded in a ridiculous 1960s/70s facade a la Schofield Building. At the corner of West 3rd and St. Clair , a renovated Cambridge could really be a terrific entrance to the WD. And as a corner building it could be relatively easy to "fit" into a larger development, almost like a keystone. Unfortunately, neither will probably be done. Where is the HWD on these matters??? Especially when it comes to the Cambridge. Beam me up Scotty!

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Hopefully I won't be berated for putting this here. The level of soot in downtown Cleveland has been discussed in this thread , especially how bad it must've been in the first part of last century. And, specifically, how much it changed the color of the Schofield. Here is the Halle building (just down the street) getting a much-needed clean up, ca. 1950 It's amazing.

^^Well there aren't too many locations left. Somebody is gonna have to make an arguement on one of them. Or else this is what will happen :

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
If tearing down Euclid Ave's history is what the Euclid Corridor is all about, then I seriously have to second guess this project. :-(

Downtown Cleveland seen from the Terminal Tower.
Wow that picture is great. A classic. I have to correct myself, the facades were not exactly the same, but they were very similar. Especially if the first-floor (retail portion) of this building is restored to the way Surroundings Home Store looks now.

Downtown Cleveland seen from the Terminal Tower.
Yes this building caught fire and was no longer habitable. The great thing about it, was that it was a "mirror image" of the building across the street (Worthington Apts, Surroundings Furniture Store) They had the exact same facades, it was really something. IMO, this was the 2nd most-significant building lost, since 1980 (the year when the mindset changed about demolitions, etc). Of course, the Hippodrome would qualify as the most significant structure lost since 1980 (maybe of all time) Some other trivia about that Warehouse District building... there used to be a bar there called Maxwell's (does anybody have any pics of that?) , and for a couple years in a row they had a Haunted House thing in October on the upper floors. I think it was called "Haunted Warehouse". Halloween used to be a much bigger deal in the Warehouse District than it is today. It was probably things like the bar and these "special events" that contributed to the fire, I'm guessing. I don't think precautions and safety concerns were as stringent as they would be in 2009. The WD was not mainstream at all , it was ragtag and unknown to the masses.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
No picture...the sun had already gone down when I saw it... The pictures from MayDay are of the other side of West 6th. I'm talking about the part of West 6th with XO Steakhouse (where the patio is) , Barley House, Liquid , Sushi Rock, Blind Pig etc. etc. Both sides of the street they tore out the brick. In one day it was done! One day! It doesn't look right...

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
It seems like the latest effort in the Warehouse streetscape is a big letdown. I'm talking about the northside of West 6th, north of W. St. Clair. They've removed the decorative brick and replaced it with plain ol' concrete... New look is a big MINUS. Before was a PLUS. Why would they do this? Maybe something better's coming next Spring (i.e. planters, etc.), and this is just the prelude? Let's hope

Cleveland: League Park
I had the chance to drive over to the League Park event on Saturday, it was really cool. I didn't get the chance to stay long, but that could be a great little neighborhood anchored by League Park. There are only remnants of the Park left, as most probably know, but enough remains to restore it to a worthwhile destination. It is definitely a landmark. It may already have been posted on this thread, but here is their website: http://www.leaguepark.org/ I also had the chance to drive a little bit around the neighborhood (part of the Hough area). Just like the Park, there are remnants of the older housing. Many are in bad shape but you can tell that some could be restored to their original appearance. There are some nice brick Cleveland 4-suiter apartment buildings. Unfortunately, there are a lot of empty lots. Although, the street that lies one(?) block north of Lexington Ave--- I believe it is called Linwood Ave.--- this street is probably the best example I have seen of infill homes in the city. They are close to the street, they are similar architecturally to the original homes and they are close to each other - very snug. It is the way that Chester Ave. and other streets in the Hough neighborhood should have appproached their infill homes. It really is a good example of a small street done right. You can get to Linwood Ave. by turning off of E. 65th (near E. 66th & Lexington---League Park's address). You cannot turn onto Linwood off E. 55th, because it's one-way. It's nice.
