  1. Clvlndr, is this in the old Dynomite burger spot? No, it's on the N side of Euclid, in between the Corner Alley and Constantino's ...
  2. Some pics from my walk yesterday afternoon ... (Last one is from the Carnegie side of Dealer Tire parking deck, showing landscaping going in.)
  3. 34 stories! I feel like this deserves its own threat, now, eh? They are saying construction could start this year and finish by 2020. Details and more images at: http://realestate.cleveland.com/realestate-news/2017/06/playhouse_square_plans_34-stor.html
  4. My source tells me the North Coast Harbor bridge is now officially dead. I actually think is great news, as the design had been continually dumbed down until it was no longer a thing of beauty. I'd rather they spend that $ on ways to connect the lakefront to downtown, but it probably isn't that easy.
  5. Pugu, I agree with you in general—I similarly HATE the whole "Greater Cleveland Aquarium" bullshit name ... is CLE so small that a "Cleveland Aquarium" would not be believable???—but the editor in me thinks that in this instance, it could be simply an instance of trying to mix up word choice. Imagine: ********** Embracing the lake: Cleveland's greatest asset CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland has something any city would love to have, a vast expanse of freshwater at its doorstep. People and buildings come and go, but Lake Erie is here forever. After decades of turning its back on the lake, Clevelanders are now embracing it as a place to live, work and play. They are learning how to protect it and how to use it to boost the economy without filling it up with garbage and debris. ... ********** I'm an editor by profession, and if someone turned this into me, I'd think, "Variations of the word Cleveland FOUR times in the first 50 words?! You need to change up your word choice a bit." Just a thought ... ;-)
  6. They're adding the "wings" ... finally! They look very nice in person. ;-)
  7. I liked it until I saw the aerial shot. AWFUL. They're adding this glassy box to a little more than 1/4 of the exterior. Looks very klutzy and doesn't mesh well. I think $140 million for reskinning (I realize there's interior work, too) the Q will be a tough sell to John Q. Public. But I think $140m for THIS will be even tougher. Side note: the glass looks cool from side angles, but the straight-on views, say from E 4th St., are really bland to me.
  8. Excited for the prospect of Dave's ... my office is about 5 blocks from there. I will add that there's an Aldi's a short walk up Euclid (though I've never been in there, not a chain I particularly like). So there is some grocery availability in this area, but Dave's will be an awesome addition.
  9. The CWRU Health Education Campus building is coming along nicely. But I was searching for a rough opening date, and found an article announcing the groundbreaking last year, which said summer of 2019. That seems crazy to me ... is this building really still 2.5+ years away from being completed/occupied/ready for students?
  10. I think the materials and detailing will make or break this one. I can imagine liking it a lot but I can also imagine hating the final product. Fingers crossed!
  11. This is right across from my office ... noticed this today. Looks like the Dunham Tavern wants to expand the parklike area to the empty field just to the west of their main building! Hope this comes to fruition.
  12. Took a walk yesterday and got a ground level view of the new Health Education Campus ...
  13. Looks like the webcam is no more? I get the message "Sorry, we do not have a page like that." when I click the bookmark ... ? :-/
  14. Lol, I noticed that right after the design was unveiled, and I've never been able to UNSEE it. ;-)
  15. Can't quite tell if that's dirt or the beginnings of grass (assume it's the former) on the northern half of the square, but something's definitely different on the webcam from a few days ago! :-)
  16. If you check out the construction cam, and dial it back to 6:40 pm (View 4) last night, pretty cool reflection of the sunset + the lit up strip. http://www.cuyahogacounty.us/en-US/earthcam.aspx

Yes, there are 4 of us by the cash register. Look for the urban Ohio tablet screen on our table! :-)

I just ran across this post ... but I should be able to make it! It's on the calendar. ;-)
  19. Not that Parker. Parker is the name of the owner's son. However, the owner and chef's pedigrees including previous experience managing Morton's in downtown Cleveland, so they're no strangers to fine dining. Parker's review: http://www.cleveland.com/top-restaurants/index.ssf/2013/11/parkers_grille_tavern_in_avon_lake_brings_luster_to_a_neighborhood_watering_hole.html We went there kind of on a whim for my boyfriend's birthday in August. It was outstanding ... I've been meaning to go back! :-)
  20. I was flying into CLE on a redeye this morning and got a very brief view of downtown and saw the strip lit up from over the lake. I thought to myself, "that almost looks like where I the Hilton's diagonal light would be." But then I talked myself out of it, thinking it was something else that I was seeing. It was quite bright from far away ... awesome!
  21. Oh, and looks like they're finally starting on the steelwork for the large triangular structure on top! Exciting.
  22. Saw this nice report/update on WKYC last night. But amused that they flashed renderings of the Denver Hyatt Convention Hotel, the correct rendering, and then the initial rendering (which I believe used an office tower in Indianapolis for rough massing) from when idea of the hotel was first announced. The three don't even look alike. Idiots ... :-o http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/cleveland/2015/09/14/new-convention-center-hotel-shaping-up-inside/72275692/
  23. This project is so bizarre to watch on the webcam. Over the last month or so, they'd built what looked like a double-height floor on the top of the southern end of the hotel. I kept thinking that seemed to be different from what the rendering showed. Now, over the last 24 hours, they seem to be dismantling it. So odd.
  24. I find the curving portion just okay, and the rear portion—which is not curved at all (?!)—extremely disappointing. Wish I'd never seen the original rendering ... that thing was taut and sexy, almost like 333 Wacker Dr. in Chicago.
  25. Some assorted shots from yesterday ...
