All right, I'll be there. With the boyfriend and the kids (6+12) in tow, if that's ok. ;-)

Me, too. I specifically asked that question on their FB page right after they published those Phase II pics, but no response yet.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
My company is moving early next year from the Stonebridge development in the Flats (West Bank) to the Midtown Tech Park. Excited about the new building, not so much about the extra 15 minutes drive for this West Sider ...

I just Tweeted the same sort of idea to Ed FitzGerald. ;-)

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Heard this on NPR this morning ... wonder when we'll get to see some drawings? :) At the end of my tour, I was walking out the door and ran into County Executive Ed Fitzgerald. He had just left a meeting reviewing plans for the new convention hotel, which is in the works to be built next door. Fitzgerald was beaming as he explained what the county is asking of the hotel architects. “How do you figure out a way to design a facility that will be the flagship of this whole complex we’ve established here and then how do you show that it’s a place of innovation but it’s also consistent with Cleveland’s history and the historical architecture you have here? And I’ve seen the initial drafts and I think they’re getting pretty close,” Fitzgerald says. When is the hotel scheduled to be finished? Construction, including demolition of the county building is slated for later this year. The hotel is expected to be completed in 2016. Breaking news—I have it from an absolutely reliable source that an announcement will be made tomorrow morning that the hotel at the Ameritrust will be a Marriott. But I'm not sure if they meant the Marriott brand or another one (like JW Marriott ... but I'd doubt that).

OMG, we were in Missoula, Montana this summer and they did this—loved it! I teased my boyfriend (who works for ODOT) that he needed to get this done here in Cleveland. Maybe I'll give him credit. ;-)

I really think I like the "cleaned" version less. I think it's because the dirty version of the windows are a brown color that blend into the whole thing and are less noticeable. The cleaned window casings stand out more and look like crappy concrete (I'm guessing that's what they are).

Some photos from early last week ... even with cleaning, the thing is still damn hideous, lol.

Speaking of Australians ... sorry for off main topic, but I'm at Content Marketing World at the CLE convention center this week. There are 1700 attendees from 40+ countries at this homegrown event. Was talking to the head of CMI (used to work with him at Penton) and he said that when they did an Australian CMW event a few months back, they had 400 people there, but some Australians didn't want to come because they only wanted to come to the main one here in Cleveland. So great for our city. :)

Yeah, completely serious. I think it's uglier than ever, sorry. *shrugs* I agree that it is one fugly building but a cleaned building can't be worse than what is there now. Moving on. Thanks for correcting my opinion. smh...

I've been watching the webcam for the Veale Center construction every couple of days, and WHAM!—all of a sudden we have structural steel!

I didn't see any sagging ... it's still up on this webcam, which is always about 2 days behind, and it looks fine. http://www.earthcam.com/client/flatseastbank/?cam=pano

What is up with them taking off the "fabric" from the structure on top? I thought the webcam looked different this morning, so I did a drive by and sure enough, it's gone, just the structural members remain. Bizarre! Maybe there was some defect? Seems like that would be a real b%tch to replace ...

A bit off topic, but can someone, ANYONE design a better logo for Cuyahoga County before we plaster it up there on a building? I mean sheesh! ;-)

Happy for this news in general, but totally underwhelmed about the new 8-story construction. It looks like a glassy building from a community college. (No disrespect to community colleges, I just would have expected better for an important new downtown building with tons of public traffic.)
