  1. I'm writing them now. I urge others to do so as well. Its VERY obvious this individual has never been to Cleveland. I have ZERO respect for Fast Company. For a publication that claims to know something about business, they are lacking. One of their reporters contacted some of my editors about an event that we created this year (it ended up being a huge success). They wrote it up in the most insulting, snarky manner, with lame jokes and a photo that showed they don't even understand basic business finance terms. I wouldn't even bother with them. Sorry but I feel that is complacent. If they don't respond then there are high authorities to appeal to. If you say nothing then there inaccuracies become written fact. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I wrote them a scathing letter in response to their snarky little piece and what I got back was a joke of a response. They seemed to feel that the fact that they have a huge audience is a benefit to whatever they cover, whether what they write is true or not, accurate or not.

  3. i'm kind of torn. As much as I like E and F, I mostly like them in the "up" position, when they look amazing. But, realistically, what tiny percentage of the time will they spend in the up position? That makes me focus a little more on A and B. I'm not sure why I like A ... it seems like the angled approach would be more boring than a graceful curve, but the angle just interests me for some reason. Or maybe it's that it fits in better with the angled nature of the peninsula it connects to ... Again, I'm just torn ... but happy over so many great choices!
  4. I'm less than thrilled by this proposal. I think the "fast food" comparison is an apt one. I'd prefer to wait and have a more substantial aquarium, instead of this thing.
  5. My (probably crazed and naive) hope with all of this "no news" news is that Nance/the county/MMPI is finalizing plans for the current convention center site, purposefully keeping Forest City in the dark. You know FC would scream bloody murder if they sensed there was a deal imminent on the current CC site. Hence, the quiet until things are finalized. On another note, does anyone else think it's sort of bizarre how many people are complaining (not this most recent article, thankfully) that we've raised some money for this before starting construction? I understand how some people are concerned that this money will go to where we've been told it will go. But at the same time, I feel like we're saving up a down payment for a house, as opposed to just shopping around and then putting $0 down and financing the whole thing with a huge mortgage. Yikes, if individual citizens did that sort of thing a little more, we probably wouldn't be in the situation we are in now! :|
  6. Thanks! I found a tiny little rendering, if anyone is interested: http://www.cmsdnet.net/buhrer/school.htm
  7. Sorry if this is elsewhere, but my searches turned up empty. Does anyone know exactly what they're building on the west side of I-71 near downtown? From Google maps, it looks like it is bounded by Rowley Ave and Buhrer Ave, near W 17th. It's right near that pedestrian overpass. tlazar39 and I wonder about it most every day from the bus ...
  8. My wife, who works there, walked through it and she and her co-workers all thought that it felt just like an airport. And the seating area for the cafeteria has recently been tweaked, and it's all black and white now. My wife just hates it!
  9. ... and Part II ... the evil gas station at Chester & E. 105th, the Art Museum expansion, the enormous new Clinic garage up against Carnegie, and a look at part of the Euclid Corridor project (nice with the townhomes' trees in bloom!)
  10. Went for a short drive around the Clinic and parts of Univ. Circle this evening, on the way to have dinner with my wife, who works at the Clinic ... my random shots of stuff, Part I ...
  11. I think it's the entrance to the underground parking. I'm guessing that once they start the townhouses that will be on the north side of that block (facing the Firestone Garage), they'll just build around that.
  12. OK, I went with tlazar39 today after lunch, and tried out my new cellphone's camera ... not bad, especially compared to the horrible old one. :-D I think this one is 2 megapixel ... Also, note in the 4th photo that you can see some windows installed on the 2nd and 3rd floors!
  13. Ooh! They're pulling down the sheeting from the south side ... and of course, the day I DIDN'T bring my good camera! :) But see the webcam for details ...
  14. I don't have MayDay's mad Photoshopping skills, but Tlazar39 is talking about this:
  15. Thanks! Also, it looked like they had a piece of glass getting ready to go somewhere, it was being handled over on the SE side of the construction area. That will be exciting when it starts to go up!
  16. Oh, and some video of it, too, on my blog ... http://fluidpowertalk.blogspot.com/2008/04/talk-about-power-of-hydraulics.html
  17. Pics from today ... last ones from the top of the Firestone garage, next to the Avenue's main building.
  18. Some photos from today ... including a few from the top of the Firestone garage, a view I hadn't tried before ...
  19. tlazar39 and I went for a stroll yesterday, some pics ...
  20. Some pics from yesterday, went for a walk with tlazar39 ... at one point, they knocked off a ginormous piece that partially destroyed the fencing!
  21. Weren't they going to add some penthouse-type strutures on top of the building, or is my memory failing me? (I swore I saw a rendering in this thread some time back, but can't find it now.) Is that still part of the plan?
  22. Some photos from Feb. 21st, just walking around the site with tlazar39 ...
  23. I was in the neighborhood about a week ago, so I took a quick drive through this development to see it for myself. It's really pathetic compared to what the developer claimed it would be. It's just a glorified strip mall with slightly better than average strip mall materials. ;) Plus, the layout (as noted above) is not conducive to parking and walking around, you really almost have to drive from one area to another. (Otherwise, I'd be afraid of being mowed down.) And the driving lanes seem to intersect strangely in many areas. I forsee a lot of fender-benders here!

See the quote from W28th that I referenced. Unless I'm mistaken, on 10/29, he said they should be released in a few weeks ... which, by my calendar, is about now. No?
