Where are all of our moronic leaders? Columbus made out like bandits (congrats). Man talk about a week of highs and lows.
  2. MayDay: That second picture you posted is awesome. It is amazing to think that Euclid Ave. used to be like that all of the time. Hopefully with the ECP it can come back to its once glorious state.
  3. I kind of had a feeling that we would start hearing about all of this news right now. The same thing is happening here in Toledo, and actually a reporter from the Blade called Mayor Jack Ford out. But anyways with ground breaking sometime this year, hopefully we see some drawings or models soon. 300 residential units in the Flats and now 400 in this area is a pretty good week for us.
  4. ^ Or its election time. But anyways it is good to hear.
  5. I was doing some research on the ECP project, and I found this website. It says that if 668 Euclid Ave. is not chosen for the county headquarters that the owner has received tax credits to convert the building into 224 apartments. There is a lot of cool information on this website which I will be posting under the ECP thread. http://www.downtownclevelandpartnership.com/pdf/euclid.pdf
  6. I was kind of puzzeled by the amount of residential. For $230 million I thought there would be more. There must be a lot of office, and commercial planned. This is great news for Cleveland, hopefully it blends in with the WHD nicely.
  7. It is great to finally hear some good news coming from Toledo. This marina district thing really needs to get going. I am really looking forward to seeing the plans for the Southwyck shopping center, since I can throw a rock and hit it from my house.
  8. I am not the biggest Bob Taft fan in the world, but I will give credit where it is due. He seems to really be committed to fuel cells. Fuel cells are focus of experts, governor Ohio touted as location for new technology Thursday, May 12, 2005 John Funk Plain Dealer Reporter Gov. Bob Taft plans to set aside a quarter of the money raised by the $2 billion jobs bond issue on the November ballot for development and commercialization of fuel cells. In a speech Wednesday at the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition's fourth annual symposium at Cleveland State University, Taft said fully developed fuel-cell technology -- which produces electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen -- would help Ohio regain its leadership in automotive technology as car makers abandon conventional engines. ...
  9. X: What are MEMS, and advanced materials?
  10. It's good to see Ohio is leading the charge of something. Ohio leads charge on fuel cells Tuesday, May 10, 2005 John Funk Plain Dealer Reporter Fuel cells are headed out of the labs and into the marketplace. And making them will be profitable, say the organizers of an upcoming symposium in Cleveland. "This is an effort to give people a picture of how this market is emerging. The underlying theme is that we can create business opportunities," said Rodger McKain, chairman of the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition and president of SOFCo-EFS Holdings LLC, an Alliance-based fuel cell company created by McDermott Technology. ...
  11. Not that this is a business but hey, it did have an effect on jobs. NASA Glenn loses bid for center Tuesday, May 10, 2005 Becky Gaylord Plain Dealer Reporter NASA Glenn Research Center Monday lost a long, desperate fight to bring a coveted financial and administrative center to Brook Park with 500 new jobs for Northeast Ohio. The prize, worth $230 million over 10 years, will go to NASA's space center in Mississippi... www.cleveland.com To reach this Plain Dealer reporter: [email protected], 216-999-5029 Hopefully we get some good news this week, and they keep the 1200 jobs downtown.
  12. Shit, atleast this project is starting. I am really interested in seeing what they are planning on building. I am excited to see that there is going to be a residential component to this project though.
  13. It could be one of those aim high, so if you hit half-way you are still happy things. But saying 10,000 by 2015 in 1985 is a lot different then saying 10,000 by 2015 in 2005. Either way it is awesome that 3,000 people live down there now.
  14. This is definately good news. Both of these options sound great. However, I do prefer the "skinning" of the AT tower and building an additional 15-17 story tower. If this plan is chosen I will be looking forward to seeing what the new exterior would look like, and of course what the new tower would look like.
  15. The best news from this article is that they expect 10,000 to be living there in 10 years. Right now we are at 3,000 so I guess we can start hoping for some more large scale projects in the near future. The parks are a step in the right direction, and is definately going to make the place more attractive.
  16. Sink fast? I don't think Euclid could sink any more. They do have one nice project going on with the Water's Edge redevelopment. That is a really good idea about demolishing ESM and making it into a TOD area. Even if they just put a regular development in there it would be better then what it is today. The funny thing is if people invest in downtown Euclid, it usually pays off. One guy opened up a restaurant called the Beach Club Bistro and it is packed all of the time, and it is relatively high priced.
  17. I really wish Euclid would get its shit together. There is no reason why that city can not be more like Cleveland Heights, Lakewood, Shaker, or U. Heights.
  18. Here is more on the topic: TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Owens-Illinois, a signature name in Toledo business, announced Thursday morning it is moving its world headquarters to Perrysburg. The announcement came at a morning press conference with O-I Chairman and CEO, Steve McCracken making a brief presentation on the decision. The new location will be property owned by O-I at Levis Commons. The company that helped give its hometown the "Glass City" nickname will move to Perrysburg, a suburb where the company already has about 550 employees at an office park. McCracken said consolidating the offices was the primary reason for the move. O-I, which shortened its name from Owens-Illinois earlier this month, is the largest manufacturer of glass containers in North America and South America. It is planning to open a new European headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The company employs 340 at its 32-story headquarters, the Toledo's tallest building. Its lease downtown expires in September 2006. MORE: http://www.toledoblade.com (Toledo, OH) --- More fallout could be coming following Thursday's announcement from O-I. NBC24 has learned that other tenants in One Seagate are now looking to leave. Here's why --- Close to a third of One Seagate is already vacant. When O-I moves out that will leave the other third empty. That leaves about 20 other companies in the remaining space, many law offices and financial firms. "We heard the building is going to be mothballed. We heard leases weren't going to be renewed. It's just puts us in a difficult position. But fortunately we have ample time," said Larry Beebe, Beebe Financial. MORE: http://www.toledoonthemove.com/
  19. I just heard on the news that OI is relocating its headquarters to Perrysburg :x

NSC, I am a current student at UT (grad in 4 days though) but yes, Jakes is still there. You are correct that campus is about 4-6 miles from dt. Dorr is a really rough stretch, but it is definately better then Monroe. I mean that area is so desolate, however, I hope if this project goes through it will change that area.
  21. I really hope this labor problem does not effect Georgalis's views on building in the WHD. The condo's seem to be selling ok considering nothing is finished. I really think if this thing is a success, Georgalis and others will start building on some of the parking lots in downtown.
  22. ^ I'll second that.

My name is Eric. I am from Cleveland. Currently I am a student at the university of Toledo, and I will be graduating in 5 days with a B.S. in Pharmacy Administration. However, today I learned that I was accepted into the University of Findlay's pharmacy school. So now I have a few more years of school and will graduate with my PharmD sometime in the far future (but it will be worth it). I became interested in "urban" areas as a young kid going to the Galleria and Tower City for Christmas shopping, and I have loved Cleveland since I was a young kid.
  24. I am starting to wonder if Marous Brothers is in some financial problems?

CSU really needs to get a football team. They can join the MAC for a couple of years. I am sure that games against Akron, BGSU, and Toledo would draw pretty well. Cleveland/NE Ohio is one of the best recruiting areas for 1A football talent, so I am sure they could field a competitive team in less then 10 years.
