  1. Ronanye heading to Univ. Circle Inc. By SHANNON MORTLAND 4:49 pm, November 14, 2005 Less than a week after Mayor Jane Campbell lost her re-election bid, her right hand man is jumping ship. Chris Ronayne, Mayor Campbell’s chief of staff, today was named president of University Circle Inc., the nonprofit group that handles growth and development in the University Circle community. He’ll start his new job in early December. More at crainscleveland.com http://www.crainscleveland.com
  2. If he does well here maybe he will run for mayor in the future.

More good news for DFAS! More From The Plain Dealer | Subscribe To The Plain Dealer 600 new DFAS jobs possible Cleveland center barely escaped closure Tuesday, November 15, 2005 Becky Gaylord Plain Dealer Reporter ... "Six months ago we thought Cleveland was going to lose 1,000 jobs at DFAS," said U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette, a Republican from Concord Township. He anchored the race to keep the office here and is among those who've been briefed on Gaddy's recommendations. "Now, not only is DFAS here to stay, but within a few years we should have 2,100 people working to ensure that our men and women in uniform get paid and on time," he said. ... Thousands of workers will be displaced when the military pay and accounting agency gets streamlined from 26 sites into five. Some of those people may transfer to Cleveland, but most of the new jobs will be filled by local applicants. Cleveland is among the cities, according to Pentagon data, with the deepest source of potential workers. ... www.cleveland.com
  4. ^ I meant the practice facilities.
  5. I wonder if they would tie a Cleveland to Lorain rail line into the Cleveland Quarries project in Avon
  6. That would be a really nice pick-up for Detroit. To get 7,000 jobs to re-locate downtown in a span of 5 years is amazing. Rock Financial/Quicken loans seem to be good corporate citizens so I would find it hard to believe he would ever move the headquarters to Cleveland. Hopefully Gilbert decides to keep the Cavaliers in downtown Cleveland.
  7. ^ I know you can't say anything, but I remember reading back in March/April that Bob Stark of Crocker Park wanted to do a development downtown. So that is my guess.
  8. Good to see this moving forward. Could this be the next big project? Trying to make the Circle less square Planners take notes to jazz up the area Wednesday, November 02, 2005 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter University Circle wants to put some funky in the clunky. Planners for University Circle Inc. and Case Western Reserve University tapped 200 people Tuesday night for ideas on enlivening the district's buttoned- down image. University Circle is Cleveland's second downtown, one square mile where tens of thousands of people work in landmark cultural, educational and medical institutions. But it lacks the amenities of an urban neighborhood or college town, places where a diverse mix of students, residents and researchers can live, have fun and socialize. 9. The breakdown by district as to who voted for who made me feel a lot better. Although Campbell did not receive the most votes in Ohio City, Tremont, Downtown, and Edgewater, I would have to think that those people who wanted someone else in office will cast their vote for Campbell in November.
  10. Damn Jackson is 58 and already a great grandfather? :wtf:
  11. “All utilities have been sized for the addition and the core support is already there,” he says. “So now when a developer comes through, it can basically just start construction, raising the steel frame. All the tricky issues involved have been resolved. The elevators and stairwells are installed. Everything has been engineering to support this tower. “With the Euclid Avenue Corridor project two years from completion, the timing is right for a developer to take over and have the 515 Euclid high rise completed at the same time. It's available as soon as someone comes in with a proposal that we will accept.” I think that construction on a tower may start this time next year. Judging by the Pinnacle project, it would probably take at least 1.5-2 years to build, which would coincide with the completion of the ECP. With the tower not covering the entire width of the garage I think it would be cool if they made the open area into a green space for the residents.
  12. This sounds like another amazing project. With the quarries project in Amherst and this in Fairport Harbor in 10 years it will take over an hour to drive through "metro cleveland".
  13. With the majority of their portfolio and investments in downtown Cleveland, I wonder how long until K&D move into town? I guess the same can be said for Marous Brothers.
  14. Here is a good article I found in properties magazine. New View: Condominiums at Stonebridge offers fresh perspective on Cleveland By Nancy Loyan Schuemann Stonebridge is more than downtown Cleveland's premier residential address. It is an exclusive neighborhood of luxury condominiums, restaurants, shops and entertainment. Stonebridge Partners, architect Bob Corna and developer Doug Price have turned their vision for the Flats into reality. Beginning with a seven-story, 30-suite apartment building at the foot of the Swing Bridge, the development has expanded to include Stonebridge Center, the renovation of an historic brick building into offices and the Ponte Vechio restaurant. The latest entry is the Condominiums at Stonebridge. Located on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River, next to the Old Superior Viaduct at 2222 Detroit Rd., the Condominiums at Stonebridge blend the ambiance of an historic neighborhood with the amenities of contemporary construction. Easily accessible from I-90 or I-71, Stonebridge is within walking distance of Ohio City with its West Side Market and the new Whiskey Island MetroPark. Read More...
  15. Let's get it done! Taking it to the max for OfficeMax Area leaders make 'best and final offer' to lure retailer Thursday, August 11, 2005 Henry J. Gomez and Joan Mazzolini Plain Dealer Reporters Worried that Northeast Ohio will lose its battle with suburban Chicago to become OfficeMax Inc.'s permanent corporate home, regional leaders are working to improve their offer. 16. If you would of asked me 4 months ago if I would vote for Campbell I would have said hell no. But with the recent development news, improving (but still far from decent) schools, and a clean credit rating I would be very excited to see her in office for the next 4 years. She was put in a very difficult situation when she took office and she has made the best of her time. However, I would like to see her step-up support for the CPD, but I realize that they need more tax revenue to do so. Also, if she is in office for 4 more years Chris Ronayne should be ready to run in 2009, and by then he should be a house-hold name with Clevelander's.
  17. This thing looks like it should be located on Rockside road not in downtown Cleveland. Why don't they just take the old May Co. building and reconfigure that into high tech office space? This would have two positives: 1. No ugly office building in downtown 2. Would keep chipping away at the high (but dropping) vacancy rate in DT Cleveland.
  18. This is really good news. The best part of the article is that they expect a solid perfomance in the next 12-18 months. I just wish we could fast-forward to 2010.
  19. Those drawings are so beautiful. I really hope this becomes a reality. I can't wait until cranes are in the air. Hopefully construction goes smooth, and people are moving in at the beginning of '07.
  20. I think all of the new talk about different development plans is going to save her ass.
  21. I am glad to see they changed sheik to chic on their website, maybe they listened to my e-mail.
  22. ^ I searched through those archives and my favorite projects are the Irishtown Bend townhouses, and the Quay 55 building. The Irishtown Bend homes were absolutely stunning, I was just a little bit dissappointed that the developer said that they would like to build more, but it doesn't sound like it is going to happen anytime soon. Quay 55 I think was one of Clevelands most visible signs of re-birth. A lot of people do not know what is going on the the WD, Flats, Ohio City, Tremont, or Detroit Shoreway, so I think that this project was a good way to show all Clevelander's that people are willing to live in the city. Jeez my parents were even talking about these condo's one night. Also, it sounds like they have plans to extend the project, and on their website it says the townhomes are planned for 2005 (Although I am not sure how often they update the site). If this project can add additional phases ala Stonebridge, I think it can really get the lake front plan started from the east. Also, if this area grows I really think somebody will finally develop that old, abandoned hotel next to channel 8.
  23. I found this article in Properties magazine's April edition. If anyone is interested their website is pretty cool, and they discuss a few projects that I have never heard of before. Moving On Up Pinnacle Condominiums to offer dramatic views, quality living By Mark Watt In 2001, Georgalis Investment Realty, LLC opened The Cloak Factory, a 94,000-square-foot, mixed-use development at 635 W. Lakeside Ave. in Cleveland's Warehouse District. Featuring retail space at ground level, office space on the second floor and 15 residential units on the upper three floors, the facility offered contemporary spaces for living and working within a walking distance from downtown. Georgalis Investment Realty Principal Gus Georgalis says his intent with the development was to “provide quality living and set the standard in the area.” With Pinnacle, a new luxury high-rise condominium and rental tower opening next door to The Cloak Factory this summer, Georgalis hopes to set the standard in the area once again. The 14-story building, featuring metal and glass curtainwalls, will offer 80 residential suites, including about 50 for-sale units and 30 rental spaces. An urban, gated community, Pinnacle will offer amenities such as 24-hour concierge service, a car wash and fitness center. Situated atop a pre-existing three-story garage at 701 W. Lakeside Ave. that has been expanded with additional floors for a total of 120 parking spaces, Pinnacle will also boast private gardens that will be located on the garage's roof. “The gardens will include a greenhouse, a barbeque area, a gazebo and an area to grow flowers,” Georgalis says. “It will be a place where residents can meet and interact.” Designed by Cleveland architectural firm Schmidtcopelandparkerstevens with Georgalis Investment Realty handling general contracting on its own, the building will allow unobstructed, panoramic views of the lake from each unit, assisted by the use of curved, wave-shaped exterior walls. Read More... Properties Magazine, Inc. Site design copyright © 2000-2003. Okay, they say that there are 50 for sale units and 30 rental. Right now there are 45 sold and 1 pending, does that mean that they are 90% sold?
  24. I was downtown at club Fuse this past weekend and it looked like club Rain was being raided for drugs, and club Fuse ran out of beer at 12:30am. I think my roomates and myself have a better bar then they do! The club owners downtown really have to get their shit together or everything is going to turn into the Main Event which was a cool place but was shut down after a few raids. Hopefully with those new developments in the warehouse district they can get some better bars/clubs.
  25. I really like the North expansion plan. I do have one question though. How will this "mall D" be built? From the overhead view provided by Paul it looks like mall C ends at the bluff.
