CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
I have a feeling that this Johnson Court project is an urban legend

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
I can't believe that Cincy has the 12th most difficult schedule. The only games they should definately lose are those to Louisville, and West Virginia.

CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
I think the courts are on Georgalis's side. I am sure he may have to pay more money, but an entrance will be built. That lake side view of the building would be a lot better if they tore down that ugly white building behind it. I was just on the Pinnacle website, and it looks like 45 condo's have been sold so far, and it looks like they are starting to sell 2 a week.

Westlake: Crocker Park
I was on the Hotel Valencia website, and those two hotels are beautiful. I just don't understand what makes a hotel "hip" or "cutting edge". Can someone explain to me what these hotels have that is so much better than a Marriott? What kind of ego does a person have to think "I am too hip or cutting edge to stay in a certain hotel"? Either way I am excited that Stark has a "vision" for downtown, and like a lot of other people, I believe that it is important that he is building these professional relationships with major retailers.

CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
I just read an article on Cleveland.com that construction at the Pinnacle has been halted due to a court battle. I will try to copy the article here, but they are having trouble with their website. This project is such a mess, and I really feel bad for the people who shelled out $350,000-$1,000,000 for their condo.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
This is really good news, another potential 800 residents living down town. I think that these units will sell quickly, due to their relatively low price. Hopefully this one gets underway and they are completed in a timely manner.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
There is a really good place on e. 185th st. called Scotti's. It is an Italian place with great Calzone's (I think they have a veggie version). The atmosphere is nice and the dress is casual. You and a date could easily get out of there for $30. Also, in Euclid on Lake Shore Blvd. there is a place called Beach Club Bistro. It is also Italian, the dress is a little bit nicer, but all of the food there is wonderful. Again, it is not that pricey. I know these two restaurants may not be in the most "hip" places, but they both deserve a visit.

Amherst: Cleveland Quarries
Steele, I have a stupid question for you, what is CP? I guess I don't really know what to think of this project except that it is very strange, and can be very good for the greater Cleveland area.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
The only thing about this development that sucks is that there is no planned residential. With a lot of other developments in Cleveland I am suprised that they did not build at least a small about of residential. I am guessing that this site is a "brownfield", and if it is, this is the 4th one to be cleaned up and reused in the past month. We must remember that a lot of construction jobs will be created to build this. Also, these companies will be able to provide employment for the 50% of our public school students who do not graduate high school.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
^ Good point about just sitting and collecting parking revenues. But, I believe one of the reasons why they are consolidating the offices is to decrease the amount of money they are spending on leases. It would kind of be like having a double mortgage if they were to just sit on this thing for a few years.I kind of hope that the existing cc site is chosen because I think that it will speed this up.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Then you have the Little Italy development and the new condo's being built in Lakewood. Hopefully this continues, but that is going to be hard. I will be more excited when construction crews start showing up.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
This project is cool because it is more family oriented. I could see these 330 units yielding 1,000-1,200 residents.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Here is the article: Battery site ready to go Thursday, May 19, 2005 By DAVID PLATA West Side Sun News After an environmental clean-up and years of delays, construction is expected to begin this summer on Battery Park, an estimated $100 million housing development in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood and the largest such project in Cleveland. It's been a long time coming, said Chris Ronayne, Mayor Jane Campbell's chief of staff. It's a true urban revitalization story, from brownfield to community renewal. The 330-unit project, including townhouses, condos and apartments, will be developed over five years. Selling prices will range from about $160,000-$450,000 or more. Advertisement They're cool units, said Councilman Matt Zone, D-17, in whose ward the development will take place. City Council on Monday approved $2 million in general obligation bonds to pay for street and infrastructure work for the project. The nearly 14-acre site, on West 73rd Street and overlooking Edgewater Park, once had 20 buildings operating as a research facility of the Eveready Battery Co. The plant closed in 1978, but minor operations continued until 1997. Plans by Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization for a $25 million housing development derailed more than five years ago, after Eveready refused to spend some $300,000 to dump clean soil at the site. Later, in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency, the company completed a voluntary clean-up. Marous Brothers Construction, one of the area's premier construction companies, was brought in to tear down the buildings, and later reached a purchase agreement with Eveready. Paul O'Neil, director of development with Marous, declined to say how much was paid for the site, saying the buy had not been completed. We expect it to happen any moment now, he said. O'Neil said plans call for preserving one building, dubbed the Powerhouse Community Building _ distinctive by its large smokestack _ as a community building, possibly including a restaurant or a museum. O'Neil said the first phase, expected to start this summer and be completed in a year, calls for 19 single-family condominiums, five townhouses and three buildings with a total of 26 flats apartments. The units will range from 1,000-3,000 square feet. The other phases are not as well defined, O'Neil said. They'll be tailored to meet the demand. Ronayne said the city will provide about $1.8 million more for gap financing. In addition, buyers will receive the city's normal tax abatement for new home construction. Ronayne said only about five acres out of the 14-acre site will be built upon. The beauty of this blufftop, lakefront Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood is that it is rendering a whole lot of green space, he said. This is really good news. I can not wait for 5-7 years. Cleveland maybe an entire different place. Since this is a Marous project, does anyone think that maybe District Park will also start this summer?

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
I got this off of Cleveland.com. It's back: From WKYC.com...CLEVELAND -- A big development project once given up for dead has new life. Video: New life for Steelyard Commons project The Steelyard Commons project hit a wall when Wal-Mart bowed out of the deal earlier this year. City council tried to put limits on the store. Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Well they got their site, and I am glad they picked the Ameritrust building. County commissioners buy Ameritrust complex Cuyahoga County commissioners have decided to buy the former Ameritrust complex, at Euclid Avenue and East Ninth Street, for $25 million and eventually convert the site into a new home for county government offices. The commissioners, however, will sit on the property for now. The county does not currently have the money to build a new administration center. The commissioners have a more immediate priority: Build a new juvenile detention center. Hopefully they do not sit on this site for too long. I wish they could just move this thing along and finish it.

DFAS Cleveland
^ mrnyc, as I pointed out above if you read KJP's article the hot dog vendor was prepared for these job losses. LOL. Hopefully we are at rock bottom now, however I have a bad feeling that National City maybe a prime target to get bought out. (Although I have no info regarding this)

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I really like the idea of the boardwalk. I was just viewing the San Antonio picture thread that showed the river walk, and I was really impressed by the number of people walking. I think that a boardwalk by this development would be a great way to lure residents, and tourists. Could you imagine living there, and being able to go out on any night and enjoy a great meal, do some shopping and then finish off the night by walking down by the river? That would be awesome. If this thing gets built, by 2015 I bet that entire corner of downtown is going to look totally different. I can not wait until this thread gets moved to the "completed projects" board.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to go down there and take pictures of these proposals. I was pretty impressed with the pictures. I really like how they will incorporate retail and residential. Was there any news on when construction was going to start? I was really happy to hear that they have a plan for DFAS, hopefully they reconsider moving the jobs out-of-town. My favorite part was the marina/plaza. It kind of looks like if this project is successful that it can spread to the other side of the bridge.

When are the plans for the Flats development supposed to be released?

DFAS Cleveland
Does anyone else who read KJP's article find it funny that the guy selling hot dogs is the only person in Cleveland who seemed to be prepared for the loss of DFAS. Maybe we should elect him as one of our representatives instead of the moron's we have in office now.

DFAS Cleveland
It has got to be around 2,258. 1078 Federal, 500 NASA (not lost, just not coming here), and 680 Charter 1(although 400 were known last fall). This doesn't take into account the 700 NASA jobs that are on the chopping block.

DFAS Cleveland
We just need a break. I don't know who this falls on. But man it just does not seem like anyone cares. Sure, Cleveland had some good development news this week (flats and e.12th), but does any of this mean anything if the region keeps bleeding jobs. I saw that the main reason the Cleveland office is closing is due to the high rent. Can't this be changed? Or is this just another cheap excuse, so people can sit and point fingers. I really think our local govt needs to be shaken up, I do not care if they are R's or D's, I just want to see someone in there who gives a damn, someone who cares so much about Cleveland, Toledo and Ohio, that they are willing to spend all of their waking hours promoting our region and our state. I am a republican, but I can not wait until the door smacks Bob Taft on his ass on the way out of office. I honestly think he believes that all of Ohio is contained within the the Columbus city limits. Hat's off to Columbus I am glad to see someone in Ohio is going to get jobs. I have one question to all of the Columbus members: Are you guys happy with your local government? I always hear people on this board bitching about Cleveland and Toledo governments, but never anyone from Columbus. I think the changes need to start with Taft, then it Mayor Janie needs to be shown the door, and then we have to get Tubby and Kucinich out of office. Those two fools are an absolute embarrassment to the city of Cleveland. Sorry I am ranting but I am one pissed off person right now. :whip:

Cleveland: CWRU West Quad Project
Yeah that is some good news. Unfortunately it won't happen for a few years. But hey, Rome wasn't built in a day either. Cleveland really needs one of these start-ups to hit it big, really big.
