Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
There's a lot of good information in here: https://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/ClevelandUrbanCoreProjects/OpportunityCorridor/Documents/_Cleveland%20Opportunity%20Corridor%20Project%20FEIS-ROD.pdf ODOT will construct enhanced bus shelters in areas where the existing bus lines will cross the new boulevard. Key intersections being considered include Kinsman Road, East 79th Street, Buckeye Road, and Quincy and Cedar avenues. ODOT will work with GCRTA during final design to identify the specific locations and the design of the shelters. ODOT will provide, at a minimum, $500,000 to be utilized for on-the-job training that will target training opportunities for individuals in the immediate vicinity of the project. Federal-aid transportation funds will not be utilized for this mitigation measure. ODOT will fund 80-percent (up to $3.2 million) of a project to extend the platform at and construct a new ADA-compliant entrance to the GCRTA E. 105th Street-Quincy Avenue train station. ODOT will contribute $500,000 toward the planned expansion of the Kenneth L. Johnson (Woodland) Recreational Center.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^that's part of what makes Curry so dangerous, I don't really fault JR for that shot at all. He's so ridiculously accurate from long rage, defenders have to come out & guard him beyond the 3 point arc... which opens up the inside more for passing lanes and driving layups...
-
Cleveland Cavs Discussion
JR is terrible. His defense is bad, he gets beat off the dribble by everyone, can't defend down low and his offense production isn't enough to justify. He's old and is slow getting up & down the court. Last night though, was inexcusable. Had he tapped the ball back in, like Nance had been doing all night, it's game over. Even go back up for the shot and get fouled, it could be game over. Anything but dribbling out the clock...

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
you might be surprised. The northern most point of the OC has already created some developable land near the Cleveland Clinic and it's getting snapped up. I suspect other areas of newly created commercial fronts will too much like other areas of midtown/Carnegie... And for your other point, why are we spending this money in the first place? Because doing nothing has.... done nothing.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
I think in past times, all that's been true. But I'd like to think urban planners have gotten a bit better at things now. There's very little transit right now in this dead zone and even less business/employment. The OC will create both. Hating on suburban commuters is really pointless.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Developers are always more optimistic than what is actually occurring. That might be true with many developers but that is not my observation when it comes to Wolstein. I think Wolstein is doing just fine. I know a couple other acquisitions he's running down so he's not cash strapped with FEB...

FEB seems to be a house of cards IMHO. Really? The apartment building is over 90% full and so is the office tower...

IKEA - Cleveland
Well, Dougal was right to sound the alarm above on Ikea's future US plans - and we may now know why no CLE/Garfield Heights announcement, when it seemed so imminent: 3 new suburban stores Ikea already announced and that were in the works - including the first stores planned for fast-growth Nashville and Raleigh - were cancelled in the last week - with no mention of alternate locations in those areas that might be more in keeping with Ikea's new small/urban approach. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2018/05/29/ikea-store-location-nashville-antioch-near-me/654149002/ It would be good to think that perhaps a Tower City Ikea showroom might be a great new, urban-Ikea solution for CLE (shop there to look and touch... order online) - but not holding my breath... I hate IKEA mostly for it's cheap ugly products but also for it's sprawling warehouse footprints and "pick & load yourself" sales approach... If the downtown had a show room only with warehouse elsewhere, with delivery, I think that's a great model. They seem to like the GIANT BOX with highway exposure on major suburban arteries, at least in Canton MI, Pittsburgh and Columbus...

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
And I'm by no means a prude when it comes to partying. I'm usually okay with whatever and am of the "more the merrier" philosophy when everyone is having a good time. But it was really out of hand towards the end of last summer. For the city's sake, since that's the tourist spot for bar hopping, the security really just needs to be better. My head is spinning a little at the idea of dirt bikes/ATV's making it all the way to the board walk. I'm trying to think how damn far they must've come from a residential area to make it to the FEB....? Regardless my wife & I come down to FEB regularly - never had a problem but never stayed out till 1 either

^tough for any team to match up with GSW offense - when Curry/Thompson & KD all start knocking down 3's, it changes entire flow of the game...

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
really a bizarre game last night. Cavs looked kinda flat, couldn't get a shot to fall entire first half... and somehow kept it close. Not a ton better in the second half but managed to win. Not sure if it was incredible defense or the Celtics were a bit flat themselves. Some analysts today suggested both teams were exhausted after playing 3 games in 5 days... I've always said the Cavs need to score a lot to win playoff games because their defense isn't great. But last night blew that theory apart

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
I had a conversation with a long time Cleveland business man a month ago. He said it's being deliberately run down, planned neglect... in the next 5 years or so, some developer will come along and pick it up for nothing, with large incentives to clean up, redevelop areas with subsidy for new infrastructure.... Didn't seem too far fetched.

Columbus: Polaris Developments and News
gottaplan replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe interesting thing about it is that it is quite dense, with many apartments and hotels among the retail establishments. They are just so ridiculously inefficiently arranged that it's impossible to get around without a car. I stayed at a hotel on Lyra by Quaker Steak a couple of times and decided to walk to Kroger a few times, which was fine. Then I went to Chipotle and had to cross Polaris... That was... Interesting. Paths in some places but other places you had to walk over grass hills. And about 8 or 9 lanes of traffic... I go down to Polaris every few months for work and I'm amazed at how many lanes of traffic they have down there...

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Ohio should be doing this--and also investing in our cities to keep the brightest young minds from moving to Chicago, New York, Seattle etc after college. They want to get rid of them. We all know why the rural dominated legislature wants this. why do you say things like this? Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati are all experiencing significant growth in their downtowns, driven in large part by young people who want to live in the city...

That's a run of the mill rental fleet car if there ever was one...

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
If a basic presentation was made showing how much these stadiums ACTUALLY cost taxpayers and what other opportunities we are missing out to use the land, it would never pass... beer swilling fans think "oh my gawd! I can't live without the browns!"
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Don't forget, the current stadium was built in this location to re-utilize foundations from the old municipal stadium
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Cleveland totally subsidizes these pro sports franchises as a last ditch effort to remain relevant. Browns stadium will always be a drain on public resources & poor use of land, regardless where it's located. Comparing our NFL franchise to other warm weather climates like Jacksonville or Tennessee isn't even relevant because they can use an open air stadium so much more than we can. Or maybe they don't use it anymore but I bet they don't subsidize it the way we do....
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Let's be honest - Cleveland shouldn't even HAVE an NFL team. Its ludicrous to compare any potential stadium to that of Dallas, which is a 7 million person MSA that is still seeing rapid growth... On a forum like this we should be discussing what to do with that land once the Browns are gone and tax payers are no longer burdened with the costs of a structure that hosts maybe 20 events a year

2018 Gubernatorial Election
I don't know how Mary Taylor can appeal to the Trump wing when she & Kasich boycotted the convention and skipped is recent visit to NE Ohio... she's neither an insider nor an outsider.... and she really has no track record whatsoever. Hell, most average voters don't even know she's been the Lt. Governor for the past 8 years...

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
No defense of the current owner of 925 Euclid, but that is a crazy-complicated project of mixed uses, myriad of funding, historic preservation, etc etc. Even the most experienced team is going to have their work cut out for them to make that deal work...
-
2018 Gubernatorial Election
I'm excited to see Mary Taylor get out of the race - her & husband Don have a lot of work to do cleaning up messes they made while she was in office and he was pushing her connections to his construction clients...

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
I may be wrong, but I don't remember there being any official plan for that. Correct. That was my speculation based on actions I detailed in my blog. It's officially down to three sites - 1801 Superior, light renovation of existing fairly modern office - 3rd District Station on Payne, historic rehab & new addition - New construction at St. Clair & E.12 City is now paying a premium rent to the county as the Police HQ are in "hold-over" period to the County to remain in the Justice Center. I'm told the Mayor wants this deal done badly as it's costing alot of money each month... can't see them taking the new construction option (2.5 years out at least, don't even own the land) or 2 years for the historic rehab/expansion of Payne....

By PD I take it you mean Police Department, and not Plain Dealer? That is quite confusing. But I agree that the Plain Dealer Building makes a lot of sense for CPD headquarters. Yes I meant Police Dept. That 1801 is a good location (downtown but not in central city), good highway access, plenty of square footage but not in a highrise which would be inefficient for them, and most of all plenty of surface parking for vehicles, trailers, equipment etc. Doesn't the former 3rd District on Payne make sense for the same reasons? Plus, it had previously been used for law enforcement purposes. Perhaps, rehab costs are excessive. Yes the city wants to do a historic rehab/expansion of that Payne facility. It's farther outside of downtown, farther away from courts & jail operations, less highway access and is very dated/inefficient. I'd like to see it saved/repurposed, but it's outlived it's useful life as a downtown PD HQ. They need modern office space as much as anything - desks, workspace, file storage, conference rooms, training, etc.
