I've been saying this for years, so it's cool to see a thread dedicated to it. West 25th development I think is really being held back by the amount of heavy truck traffic it gets. Totally kills the pedestrian experience when 18 wheelers rumble/roar by
  2. ^agreed. Cardale is just brute force but seeing JT turn the corner running the ball, made me want to see him play more at QB. Braxton Miller was absolutely electrifying with the ball. He's going to be a Heisman contender if he gets a few more plays like that in his highlight reel. OSU seemed a little rusty with some of the blocking schemes but the sheer amount of talent helped them overcome. Credit to Virginia Tech too though, they have a good team. Played with a lot of intensity but they were just overwhelmed in the second half. I think that's one of the great strengths of Urban Meyer is his second half adjustments
  3. The school district always feels like they are getting screwed. They know this land is valuable and even though they have no real value addition, they want to hold it. The only consideration for locating a school should be proximity to the students and cost to build. I don't think this fits either criteria as well as other locations mentioned. Frank Jackson needs to make an executive decision and put the school elsewhere. Probably on the site the city already paid $5 million to clean up that is vacant...
  4. what exactly has Gilbert done for Detroit besides swoop up a lot of distressed property at bargain prices. Has he substantially rehabbed any? Has he brought any real employment base downtown for the suburbs? When I lived in Detroit, there was a lot of talk of him bringing 3000 jobs from Livonia but it never happened. Seriously?. For starters, he brought in over a thousand employees downtown when he moved Quicken Loans HQ down there, and that number is now over 12k. He's done building rehabs and has attracted dozens of retailers and residents to those building. He's helped spruce up downtown to make it more walkable and livable. Not to mention investing heavily in the M-1 streetcar. Like him or not, you can't say he hasn't had a big impact on downtown Detroit. Good to hear. I moved back to Cleveland in 2008. I guess a lot's happened in those 7 yrs

  6. Just get yourself a sidearm. Something like a glock 40cal or the like ;-)

Any interest in checking out one of the new locations in Flats East bank? Or maybe lunch at Shooters and admiring FEB from across the water...?
  8. Last I heard, a few weeks ago, they moved the leasing office into the building, out of the E&Y tower and were pleased with the leasing progress. Somewhere over 75% signed leases. Not sure on actually occupancy though, obviously relative to construction progress
  9. are they pre-leasing on any of the apartments? Any update on the commercial office leasing? I would expect some activity on either of those fronts prior to a ground breaking...
  10. Is there a plan for redeveloping that site once the school is down? The City or School Board left that building in such a sad state for so long, not surprised they demo'd it. Just hope something good goes back there, pretty high profile corner
  11. That house has been a den of sleeze forever. The father & son were arrested about 6 yrs ago for beating a neighbor kid with a bat. The house needs torn down. Full of rats, bedbugs, etc.
  12. You meant that lot that fronts w9 also? Has been for sale for years?
  13. Projects near Woodland/Woodhill... Quincy/105... Buckeye/MLK
  14. The problem is that *a lot* of police officers become police officers because of an inferiority complex and other emotional issues that have haunted them their entire lives. And after being a police officer in an urban area like Cleveland or Cincy, you've seen so much messed up stuff, dealt with so many dirtbags who had zero respect for the law or other human beings... you are always on edge, ready to react, ready to defend yourself. I worked with a guy who was a Cleveland cop. He quit after he was shot at for the 3rd time in a couple months, worked 3rd district up near MLK/Cedar neighborhood, very dangerous. No such thing as a simple traffic stop.
  15. Would love to see some of this positive momentum carry down toward Hustler Club, see some of those old parking lots get redeveloped and some of those old buildings get rehabbed
  16. ^wasn't the scoreboard improvements at Browns Stadium paid for through the sin tax that was rammed through/passed by voters? And the true cost of a police officer is much more than $60k when you add up all the salary, benefits, retirement, training, uniforms, equipment, etc.
  17. I think a $2/hr parking fee would probably have hidden benefit. Many people might be inclined to stick around an area longer if they are "invested" in parking and have paid several dollars. At this point it's not just the market customers, a garage could serve new residential, the RTA stop nearby, the bars & restaurants...
  18. I think Ohio City/Market District area is definitely dense enough to support a garage. The problem I see is that the land parcel is awkwardly shaped, so it would be difficult to fit an efficient garage on the site with proper entrance/exit

It's a race to the bottom. Tons of research out there too about what sort of deals different cities have negotiated with their sports team owners. Huge discrepancy on what a city like Cleveland lays out vs what a city like San Francisco lays out in terms of tax abatements, rents, traffic control, etc. Cleveland is desperately hanging on to these sports teams to try and maintain it's legitimacy as a major city
  20. ^all that to a degree, but probably more than any of the social/justice issues, its just a high amount of guns on the street, easily acquired
  21. Is it just me or has it been a really bloody summer on Cleveland's east side? So many shootings, its hard to even keep track, more every day, 2, 3, 4 at a time

should be covered in a simple vehicle inspection that would limit the dB from the exhaust and keep within a certain level. I'm not sure an "anti-cruising" ordinance would be able to be enforced.
  23. ^that's a pretty good corner. Would be an excellent location for a nice mixed use development. Need to do something with the acres of parking across the street at that Burger King...
  24. Leasing agent told me two weeks ago that 3rd floor would be ready middle of the month. Doing a floor every two weeks after that.

The Pinnacle is a great building, good quality, good location, nice views & such but I've heard from several owners that the association fees are outrageous and it really discourages people from buying. Apparently they've gone up significantly too so I'd advise a detailed look at what's planned for maintenance and see what they have on reserves
