quickly, name another school that has recently put more players in the NFL. Post just upthread makes the same comment that so many NFL players now are from minor schools...

Sorry but OSU hasn't had a true Pro-Prospect QB in a generation. Maybe since Joe Germaine in late 90;s and he sucked. We won a national title with Craig Krenzel who sucked as well. But we've been loaded at WR. Ginn, Holmes, Robiske, Gonzalez, Jenkins, Hartline.... all played 4 to 6 years in the league. Then you talk about Cris Carter, David Boston, Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn... Seriously, what school has produced more WR pro players than OSU? I think OSU has held it's own at RB. When you consider the league average is only 2.5 yrs, guys like Beanie Wells, Carlos Hyde are on the cusp. Eddie George, Robert Smith and Keith Byars all had great careers in the NFL

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Dscdo and the city are most of the problem. Dscdo "partners" on some of these deals so they get a development fee. They are not going to turn away or drive a hard bargain. Ditto for the city. They have no form requirements on parking, building facades, materials, etc

I agree, but reality is that it's very hard to do brown-field redevelopment in Cleveland and make any sort of profit. Rental rates don't justify new construction. And a parking structure is 10x more expensive than surface parking. But you already know all that.

Its funny to me that folks get so fired up about views and fences and such. What's there now is a monstrosity of warehouses and old factory buildings blocking any view or access. Been that way for decades. Two blocks over to the east on Herman avenue, is some amazing lake views that are obstructed by overgrown brush and weeds... but nobody is concerned about that. But a developer wants to build something new and people get up in arms about having views blocked!!!

Oregon defense was soft. They were not stepping up to make plays on the runners last night and their linebackers were getting blown up. Ezekiel is a beast for sure but he was blasting through the line untouched and his vision to see the cutbacks was on full display last night. Urban Meyer is definitely starting a new dynasty at OSU. The QB competition is going to be very exciting to watch unfold next year.

Listening to ESPN this morning, some interesting stats - Oregon runs 73 plays a game. OSU runs 72 plays a game - Oregon has a lot of 3 & outs. Their rapid-fire playcalling doesn't always set them up for the best play based on what the situation requires. It's more of a predetermined set of play calls that may or may not work.

Time to revive this thread. Let's get some predictions. I'm taking the Buckeyes, 41 - 27. I think our running game overwhelms Oregon and our defense forces some turnovers. Doesn't hurt at all that their starting RB & WR were suspended for failed drug tests

The Scouts in the NFL are pretty savvy, case in point the Ravens drafted Flacco in Round 1 out of Delaware State. Braxton does not look an NFL QB to me, talented player though. But then you get undrafted free agents making pro bowls all the time, like Jason Kelce with the Eagles. The Bengals took Eifert at TE over Travis Kelce (round 3) although Eifert is a route running TE and Kelce is the total package. The difference one had a ND jersey the other a Bearcat jersey. Denard Robinson only played about 9 games this year and got 130 carries. That's not much. And he got injured. He couldn't stay healthy a full season at Michigan and NFL RB's take a pounding like no other. Braxton is a great athlete with tremendous vision and speed but he's no NFL running back. I wonder how much his shoulder will be an issue in the future - a torn labrum might be something he'll always deal with. What was Chad Pennington's injury that kept coming back...?

Miller will be announcing his departure shortly after the national title game. No way does he stick around OSU with a crowded QB competition. Where he ends up is totally a guess. I agree he'll probably never be an NFL QB, but I think he's more talented than RG3, Terrell Pryor, Jamarcus Russell, Tim Tebow, Troy Smith and a dozen other dudes who made at least some money in the NFL

Cadillac does. So does BMW, Mercedes, and plenty of others. Honda CrossTour is very popular

Car Ownership
you folks are really splitting hairs. Time is money and the "utility" of a truck or an SUV is very hard to put a price on. Driving 15,000 miles a year, in a car that gets 27 mpg on average, paying $2.50/gal of gas costs $1,388 a year. Driving the same in a truck/suv that gets 17 mpg on average only costs $900 more. I'll take that small penalty every day and twice on Sunday to have the extra flexibility and capability to haul kids, tools, dogs, lumber, a trailer, etc.

Car Ownership
Annual vehicle miles traveled is way up from the last 20-30 yrs. It's leveled off since 2008, but still way up from where it was a generation ago. People are much more mobile. When you're always on the go, there is a need to take it with you. My wife is in sales and is always carrying product with her. She has a tri-state region she covers & puts 40,000 miles a year on a vehicle. Try not to judge her when you see a single woman driving in a SUV on the highway....

Maybe he has a boat he needs to tow. Or a camper. Or owns rental properties and has tools in the back. Or has large dogs. Point is, you don't know.

Car Ownership
What year was your dad's car? Something like a 1970's ford or chevy sedan with a cavernous trunk? I'm sure the groceries did fit easily back there... Last point I'll make about this futile discussion is that people today travel so much more than families did a generation or two ago. My wife & I are constantly going back to my parents or her parents. Both sets of grandparents are 3 hrs away. It takes a hell of a lot of packing for a 2 night trip with 2 kids.

Car Ownership
you must not have kids (small ones that require car seats) or park in a cramped garage. If you did, you'd realize the attraction of a minivan is the sliding door that allows you to reach all the way in without having to squeeze between a regular door and the wall or the car next to you in order to buckle up your child. Also, car seats take up a ton of space. Two car seats in a vehicle make the back seat useless for most anything else. It has nothing to do with cool. People didn't care for SUV's 30 yrs ago because they just tossed their kids in the back and yelled "sit down!" at every stop light. You could tell the kids to squeeze over when the groceries needed set in the back seat. Can't do that with car seats. My wife & I have a smaller SUV but know we will be getting a minivan soon enough. It's just impossible to reach in & out to get the kids out of the back when you are trying to scissor yourself between the door. I wish it was as simple as "not buying as much dumb stuff at the store"... what an irresponsible comment. As if you know how much groceries it takes to supply a family of 4+ for a week....

back to actual football, I think OSU has a real good shot at beating Oregon. The Ducks can't stop the run. They couldn't stop FSU and they sure as hell won't be able to stop OSU. Our defense is probably one of the best they've face. Not sure what the game plan will be on defense but our secondary can cover. I think we could be susceptible to some screen passes and sweeps and options but containing Mariota will be a tough job, to keep him minimized. I hope it doesn't turn into a track meet. I don't want the game to fall on Cardale's shoulders to make a bunch of big plays

No kidding. OSU has a huge fan base. Ratings wouldn't have been nearly as good for a Baylor/FSU matchup

Meyer's post game reaction to Oregon winning. Surprised he was unaware of the Oregon score, nobody even mentioned it at halftime or on the sideline or just before the game, commented that FSU was getting blown out?

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
That was so bizarre. Alabama should have been left with no time after that series, and OSU was having good success running the ball at that point. Meyer took responsibility for the long pass play call in the post game. Said he knew they had 1 on 1 coverage and thought they could get it. They are lucky they still won or that's all that would be talked about today... Final thought was that it was really fun watching Cardale plow up the middle running the ball. He was really delivering the blow to the Bama defenders. For a big guy he's really nimble & has fast feet, but I was also cringing each time he took a hit. I mean, he's our 3rd string QB - he CANNOT get hurt!

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
The whole rant from ESPN & other media about SEC superiority is tiresome but it's not entirely untrue. OSU got crushed in national title games by LSU & Florida and the Big Ten has underperformed as a whole. We can take that discussion a long way for other reasons but bottom line, OSU turned that argument upside down last night. Big win for OSU, for the Big Ten & for Urban Meyer, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest college football coaches, ever.

That was a dicey game. Lots of momentum changes. A few notes - Cardale running the ball up the middle was nearly unstoppable. For a big guy, he's pretty light on his feet and was delivering the blow to 'Bama linebackers - Cardale's passing was really inconsistent. He fires line drives, with incredible velocity, but seemed unable to hit guys in stride or put much touch on the ball. He also seemed to be staring down his primary receivers. Many times he really seemed to be forcing it instead of just taking the natural progression - He did have time to throw, but Alabama was really pressuring, bringing 4-5 rushers each down - i wasn't a big fan of the play calling. The early series after they had the ball at the 1 yd line, and proceeded to pass it 4 times was terrible. At that point, 'Bama was already giving up yardage to OSU running the ball. Again, seemed like Cardale was staring down his receivers, trying to force it. A couple sweeps or off-tackle runs might have been safer & more productive - the 4th quarter punt from the end zone which bounced backward and ended up being about a 15 yd punt was horrible. So lucky the next play Alabama threw an interception - the punt return game was a nail biter all night. Fair catching some of the balls inside the 10 yd line rather than letting them go into the endzone was terrible - What was the deal on the opening kickoff that Alabama didn't touch...? That was a live ball that OSU could have tackled for a safety or recovered for a TD? The game callers didn't really explain what a bonehead nearly-disastrous play that was. - The 3rd quarter play where Cardale was tackled in the endzone was a safety. I don't understand the rationale of "forward progress". Cardale was trying to escape, was trying to throw the ball still... - Meyer's response in the postgame interview when asked about Oregon winning by 40... "They won by 40? We gotta go..."
