  1. I,m really impressed by this project. The brick cross walks, the new curbs, paving, landscaping, bus stop shelters, it really makes the area look much more attractive. The center median isn't nearly as intrusive as what I thought. It's actually not even a factor in most places....
  2. If OSU continues to win out, convincingly, I think there's a fair shot they could get into the Final Four playoff. OSU has the largest fan base in the country and those fans will travel to and watch the games much more so than a Mississippi State or Oregon fan base will, by a long shot. This college playoff scenario is all about money, and increased revenue from tickets or advertising is a strong option to consider
  3. huge momentum swing after OSU fumbled the punt in the 2nd half. MSU had the TD called back on a penalty then they missed the FG. OSU came back and hit the two long TD passes. I think MSU was playing too aggressive in the defensive schemes with the blitzes, left the corners with no help and OSU receivers only had 1 man to beat for the big plays
  4. While this game is shaping up to be the de facto Big Ten championship game, it looks like neither team would have a shot at making the Final Four for the NCAA Playoff. Too many other teams in front and neither OSU nor MSU has any big ranked opponents left to play that might help them advance in the polls. TCU, Oregon, FSU, ND and the SEC winner all have an inside track
  5. Predictions for the game this weekend? I think OSU has to score a lot to win. If they have a shot at all. I think OSU is very streaky and struggled against a good defense in Penn State. I hate the fact that it's a night game at East Lansing. If I had to bet, I'd go with something similar to last year's outcome. MSU by 7-10 points

    OMG. That is insanity.
  7. it was a bait & switch. Gilbert promised thousands of jobs building the new casino, that's the only reason people got behind it. They went ahead & released renderings of the possible Ontario/Huron street interface. Of course nothing was required or guaranteed in terms of construction timeline but it was certainly misleading
  8. People have been buying in Battery Park for many years. Before this project was formally approved. Nobody is buying in BP because of the 73rd connection. Most residents oppose it because it will make the neighborhood a cut through when it's essentially a cul-de-sac. Also severs the east/west connection that existed at Fr. Caruso
  9. I drove by yesterday, seems like they are really moving on the North side of the tunnel work. The Edgewater on/off ramps are now clearly defined and the multi-use path looks reworked as well. Digging out for the tunnel on the north will be interesting. They'll have to set the bridge walls and rebuild the bridge and tracks, then flip the train traffic again. This really is a huge project. For something that will see a very very small amount of traffic...
  10. I think the ebb & flow of momentum is more about the defense than JT Barrett.
  11. Buckeyes got themselves in a dog fight with Penn State right now. Hope they can pull it out.

Good question. Guy seems like a career politician. I'm not sure he's ever held a private sector job. With who he knows and what he knows, it won't be a problem getting a job. Especially as a former FBI agent. The latest rumor is that he was with Grehan in Ireland a month before the parking lot incident. The source on that one is pretty reliable, and no Kasich fan. No I agree he'll have no problem finding a job, just curious where he'll end up. In a federal office somewhere? Not likely in a state office if Kasich wins. Would he come back as some administrative role at Cuyahoga County?

agreed. It was a disappointment to see him bail on the Cuyahoga Exec position after barely a term, so much left to be accomplished there. He has zero traction against Kasich. If he had stayed at County Exec another term, the governor race could be wide open, especially if Kasich decides to run for prez in 2016. At this point, what does Fitz do after he loses the Governor race?

Did you actually expect them to endorse Ed Fitzgerald? Yeah, I would expect them to do anything but endorse Kasich. Remember the mess that was made with his initial cabinet selections, not a single minority?
  15. Brickman's project is my vote for #1, the urban residential market is red hot right now. The Flats East Bank project is #2. Should start building in the spring. They are signing up tenants now
  16. Lima is not a unique place in that it is a rust belt city with a disappearing manufacturing base (Ford, Westinghouse, General Dynamics to name a few big employers that are now a fraction of what they were). What is interesting is that Lima resembles an urban area and has a lot of poor minorities, but it's surrounded by rich farmland with white conservatives who look down on the crime & poverty with as much disgust as you can imagine. Not sure what any elected leaders or policies might have done to change any of these trends.

i like how Kasich's ad starts out about teamwork & "bringing people together".... this was the same guy who said "get on the bus or get run over by it", right?
  18. with all the losses to top 25 teams, I expect OSU to get back into the top 25. JT Barrett seems to be growing by leaps & bounds each week. Looked really polished today, making some really phenomenal throws, great timing with receivers. Might be some interesting discussion next year on who should start between him & Braxton Miller...
  19. ^that list was put out by Keller Williams which is a real estate company with developments in all those areas listed. Not exactly hard data...
  20. Gordon Square was pretty rough 10 years ago too. Need a lot more development on the North side of Detroit before you see significant spillover on the other side. Some nice housing on Franklin & Clinton near 65th plus the infill of townhomes at Waverly station... I think we'll start to see it reach a tipping point of income to support a few more basic service retail stores.
  21. East 9th to East 12th
  22. you're right. the road project should be abandoned. and the land of the forgotten triangle will stay abandoned.
  23. Classic. Get the dumb college kids to pay for it...
  24. PIRG is a mouthpiece for Ralph Nader, notorious for funding itself through mandatory surcharges on university student fees. Their opinion is as predictable as it is irrelevant. The 55 page report is commentary on overall driving miles declining. It focuses on 10 different projects. The actual analysis and criticism of the Opportunity Corridor boils down to 1 fact: Vehicle miles traveled in Cleveland area are stagnant. What that doesn't focus on is the boom of employment in the University Circle area.
