  1. I don't know but if you watch any episodes of "Homeland", there seems to be a camera on every corner, bus stop & back alley where police can monitor & track people. Of course it's a tv show, but I think that's probably where we are heading, especially in high crime areas
  2. I think the discussion is better suited to one of the neighborhood threads
  3. good lord this thread has gotten off track with this discussion about this random Tremont dude and his agenda...

Incredibly low turnout at the polls today in Cleveland. I just voted at 6:30pm and the poll worker said they hadn't even cracked 100 ballots at her station. Sheesh. I'm predicting Issue 7 passes, about 60-40, maybe 70-30. I'm sure the Cavs/Browns/indians made sure all their workers got out & voted
  5. We do the same thing in our block club. CPP customer service 8 response time is so bad you have to document everything to get any action.

I'm voting no for a number of reasons. More than anything I think Pro-Issue 7 has run a slightly dishonest campaign. I also hate the idea that the sin tax will be extended for 20 yrs.
  7. it's just disappointing that this happened where it did I guess. I agree that 65th rapid station is sketchier than others on the west side, but it's a stone's throw from the newly renovated Zone rec center & a 5 min walk from Gordon Square. And the fact that it seems to be such a senseless killing, no struggle or robbery involved apparently
  8. That is awful news. Shot right in the head by an RTA station. That area is supposed to be on the rise too. What are the chances any arrests are made on this or anyone is charged....
  9. Interesting article but makes no mention of how the restoration would be funded or what sort of operations subsidy would be needed.
  10. Sounds like a good idea to me, but this issue is more about what will generate the highest return on investment. The church cannot be saved and repurposed in any sort of fashion without a huge subsidy to salvage the building & then provide on going operating subsidy. Where's that money going to come from? Even with the most generous historic tax credits for renovation, that might get 20% of the renovation costs and nothing for the ongoing operation.
  11. Some progress photos from yesterday. The H3 building has 2 floors now, 3rd floor will go up this week. Looking to get it enclosed by middle of June & start turning units over the end of summer. Pretty sure all units are sold The last 8 units of the Parkside townhomes are being finished. Some units turned over last week and rest will keep rolling through May. Pergola canopies were set yesterday with a crane. Landscaping is getting placed & exterior work wrapping up. Looks fantastic in my opinion
  12. I think you're way off to say "not a word" from Edgewater residents on other topics or something else that was to be done with the church was abandoned. Also silly to point out some homes that were torn down for rebuilt ranches back in the 60's. how many current home owners were around 50 yrs ago when that happened? And the fault lies with the City for allowing ranch homes to be built in a historic district like Edgewater
  13. I think it's unfair to characterize or label the Edgewater homeowners as elitist or anything else negative. The Edgewater neighborhood is known for its homes more than anything and those people have earned a say in what goes on that corner.

I think it's pretty simple. Sin tax aside, tax money should not be used for the stadium maintenance. Not when rents are so low, revenue from advertising/naming rights is not shared, etc

Apparently they do. Don't forget, this guy was already the recipient of an NAACP award & was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award from them. How messed up is that
  16. I think that link is incorrect. At any rate, $300 million to renovate in place seems absurd. Entire project could be rebuilt for less money.
  17. Oh you rebel... driving outside the lines! I know. It all started when I was a kid. Colored outside the lines...
  18. well i hope they do something soon, right now it's ridiculous. I was paying attention as closely as I could and continually ending up in the wrong lane
  19. Just drove down Detroit Ave headed west from 25th. The traffic markings on that stretch of road are a disaster. Impossible to tell what lane you're supposed to be in. Some of the old lane markings were removed in a half-assed manner & new lane markings were installed in the same manner. The center turn arrows are still completely visible, but the center lane markings are not really visible. Can't believe it hasn't caused an accident. The bike lane markings come & go with no definition

+1 Like any good team owner, they would just choose to select another city who is willing to maintain the stadium for them. Like it or not, this is the modern sports business. I don't think they can skip town so easily. And if they could, how many cities have a pro-sports venue complete with parking & such, just sitting by, ready to open for business. Not to mention the league would have to approve the move, etc etc

Or have the team owners step up and pay for the maintenance...
  22. well it was really the only option with that parcel. Curious what Vintage had to pay for it to build on it.

    That's a false assumption.

so put that same money that the city is spending on policing games & events to added downtown & neighborhood policing. Problem solved. End result is safer communities
  25. The line about "tunnel vision" was razor sharp wit.
