Clevelands unused / abandoned commercial buildings
Those high price tags on commercial buildings are worthless, true selling price can be fractions of the price. Best advice is to find a property you like & contact the owner... send me a PM offline to discuss more

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Buckeyes looked great yesterday, dominant on both sides of the ball, D-line was getting great pressure on the QB with 4 man rush... offense scored so fast it made PSU one-dimensional... Carlos Hyde seems to be getting more dominant as the season goes on. He's showing that really special blend of burst through the hole, power to break tackles, great vision & break-away speed... excellent play calling on offense too

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
and yet there are still more areas trying to launch Community Entertainment District overlays.... Detroit Shoreway is about to launch one along Detroit & 65th.... hello, silver bullet?

anybody try out the irish pub place next to Otto Moser's restaurant on Euclid?

Pet Peeves!
how about people who still can't parallel park in the city... here in Cleveland, people don't even park that closely and a good spot is usually big enough to park a Lincoln towncar, yet some jackwagon in a Hyundai Sonata has to give it 3 attempts... holding up traffic behind them all the while

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
the sewer is so deep & the trench is so wide, 12 feet I think, that driving sheet piling is the only way to open the trench & lay the sewer line, while holding the earth back
-
Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
it vibrates the sheet pilings into the ground. THe vibration is strong enough to cause cracks in adjacent homes plaster/drywall ceilings & walls...
-
Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
super noisy too. did you see anyone taking seismograph readings around your building, or inspecting for existing cracks in drywall etc?

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Sounds like pretty much every ODOT/Cleveland meeting I've ever been to

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
the boulevard construction planned for the Shoreway & Clifton will eliminate the possibility of this, but I'd love to see this artery have the inner lanes be "flexible" for incoming & outgoing traffic. Morning traffic would have 4 lanes in/2 lanes out. Afternoon traffic would be the opposite. Same lane miles, more efficient. Could probably be done with minimal signal improvements

You mean the guy who's a convicted felon?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Because it's CMHA and they have their own police force. It's not just CMHA and the Lakeview Terrace estates, you go 3 blocks in about any direction from 25th & Lorain, and it gets sketchy fast
-
Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
That's due to the Innerbelt lane closures right? Seems like everyone is trying to find a way around and getting off at 117th or W. Blvd then going to Clifton is a popular detour...

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Ohio City's growth & development progress has created a significant wealth disparity, placing "haves" & "have nots" in close proximity to one another. Would take some major policing and officers on the street to stop the random street violence and round up the troublemakers

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
Ditto. That stretch of Clifton is such a heavily traveled gateway in & out of the city, it should absolutely look (and FUNCTION) better

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Cant find the news link yet but a young man was found dead earlier tonight in the upper shelterhouse of Edgewater. Looks like it might've been a drug overdose. Very sad scene

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
That's the best that could be done from an engineering standpoint. The major obstacle is the 8' diameter sewer line that runs parallel to the tracks. They are relocating it as much as they can to get the interchange at 73rd. The ideal location for the interchange would have been 65th, since it's already a main artery in the neighborhood and connects right at the heart of Gordon Square, but the north termination of 65th is the main hub of the sewer line which connects the neighborhood & continues on to the treatment plant. Relocating that hub is not an option.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I wouldn't worry about the trees. I doubt they'll be planted closely enough to block any views. After a few years, the canopy will be up high enough that it won't block a driver's view of the lake or downtown from a car seat. Last time I checked, there was a huge component of this project that reconfigured the interchange at W25th & W28th. It was going to have all traffic get on & off at 28th, creating a nice development opportunity for the wasted space at 25th, and eliminating the dangerous on-ramp at 28th which merges from the left. I haven't seen anything about this interchange, and in a previous meeting, someone from ODOT stated this was a higher priority than the actual boulevard conversion...

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
That Crains article is very confusing. There are several portions of the Shoreway project, currently the 73rd interchange, and others proposed, only 1 of which is the actual boulevard conversion. "Cleveland Councilman Matt Zone, whose ward encompasses about two-thirds of the Shoreway, recounted that he attended his first meeting on the long-percolating project in December 2001. As it became more of a reality, it helped spur some $500 million in development completed or underway in the near West Side -- projects driven in part by anticipation of better connections between neighborhoods and the lakefront, Zone said. I'd love to see an accounting recap of that $500 million quote...

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Don't forget how much technology is in the patrol cars these days too. Officers can look down quickly at a laptop & get all info & photos of a possible suspect, GPS mapquest data showing them where to go for their next call, etc etc. Very tough to have access to that much data when on foot
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Police on foot patrol does have a lot of benefits but it's hard to implement. Officers need to be able to respond quickly & cover a LOT of territory in a city like Cleveland. Being on foot patrol doesn't lend itself too well to that. I believe there are union restrictions to having officers walk and not be in a car as well

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
"...and wonders whether this is the same old urban renewal-era, highway thinking that has caused so much damage to urban neighborhoods..." I'm all for healthy debate on this project but that's flat out scare tactics to get your message across.
