Cleveland: Flats East Bank
very little would have happened to those old existing buildings along Old River Road without the development of Wohlstein's FEB project. It's simple economics. Some of those buildings have great bones & architectural detail, but there was just no demand. I'm sure the current owners recognized that. Let's be realistic here too, nothing gets done in Cleveland in terms of development without some major public subsidy, even if it's just historic tax credits or new infrastructure or whatever. And it costs real money, paid to architects & lenders to pursue that (free) subsidy money. Having said all that, I would bet my left ear that we have an announcement by next summer for a major development along Old River Road.

Ohio Highway Patrol
You can drive from mid Michigan to south Florida and you'll encounter more State Highway Patrols in Ohio than all the other states combined, easily.

no doubt. They get huge signs & bridges dedicated to officers killed in action. Meanwhile, construction workers who get killed erecting said bridge gets nothing.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
As exciting as it is to watch Kenny Guitton running the offense, I'm worried that Braxton Miller is missing out on critical reps in these "warmup" games. As great as it is to have a guy like KG who can step in & win, we need Braxton to be sharp and making good decisions. Now that KG has played so well the last 2 games, I'm wondering what the decision making process might be if Braxton comes out & struggles in a game. Will the coaches stick with him & risk a loss, or yank him in favor of KG? Reminds me of the old saying that "if you have 2 QB's, you really don't even have one"

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
The ground breaking last fall was symbolic. They started relocating utility poles & transformers, but actual construction is on hold. Bids were received a while ago and they are several hundred thousand dollars over the budget. Architect needs to go back & remove scope items & rebid the project or they need to do more fund raising

connect to the shoreway off ramp. The off ramp will be totally reconfigured to be a 2 way street for a short run. I believe the plan of this was posted on the Shoreway thread.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I'm just speculating, but I think that large center parcel will stay vacant for some time. After the small parcel beside Reddstone gets done, I think they'll start focusing on the north area between 73/74 & Frascati/Caruso. By then, the sewer relocation portion of the 73rd connection will be done and 73rd should be lowered to grade so they can start building retaining walls & doing utilities over there

The new building is definitely the nicest yet. Great looking modern materials & rustic brick. Next phase of 8 units is supposed to start in the next 30 days

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Community Entertainment District is a new tool that councilmen are using to incentivize bars & restaurants. It allows discounted liquor licenses, but requires a certain amount of area, in acres. Flats East Bank or Warehouse District are good examples. Playhouse Square/CSU are trying to do it too, so are others.

image of suspects from the bar security cam, pulled off facebook. Not sure why the local media isn't sharing this https://sphotos-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/1174661_10200694769433395_171151619_n.jpg

No thanks. End up with some kind of Zimmerman situation where these "neighborhood watch" individuals with no authority took the law in to their own hands I wouldn't insult the Guardian Angels by comparing them to a wanna-be cop idiot looking to make a name for himself. . They have a long history of this service, provide training, action plans, etc. Just their presence could have deterred something like this. no insult intended. I am not familiar with them at all here in Cleveland despite living & working in the city the last 6+ years. Never even heard of them till the girls were rescued from Castro's captivity

Why are young people driving less?
ditto. I paid cash for a clean used car worth $10k. I think I got a deal and a year later it has not even 10k more miles and I think I could still get what I paid for it. Assume I lost $1500 in depreciation, plus gas, maintenance & insurance, still doesn't even amount to $5k. That's a lot of economic freedom for less than $5k a year

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
A group of a dozen or more teens gathered outside a bar around midnight with their faces covered up seems like reasonable suspicion. All the cops would have had to do is send a car, flash his lights & siren & the teens would have scattered.

ask to see some ID, who is under 18? Threaten to write some tickets for curfew violation... tell em to clear out, no loitering.... all laws already on the books, not sure why they aren't used more often (warehouse district :-/)

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Can someone link the facebook page showing the 3 young men, caught by the bar video? The picture of the one is so clear, the neighborhood has to be able to recognize him. honestly, if the police can't find this kid, he has to live close by...

2nd District with Commander Sulzer is a top notch group. I called in a drug deal I saw on Detroit earlier this summer in middle of the day. Commander Sulzer emailed me back 2 days later, said they set up surveillance based on my report & arrested four people for drug trafficking in that area. Can't ask for much more than that from your local police

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I saw this last night also. The article linked at WKYC asks for help identifying the young men but offers no description even though the video clearly shows the attackers were black. This is a bad neighborhood and it's not the first time something like this happened. The club should have more security outside & do more to keep the sidewalks safe for patrons whether they are gay/straight, etc. Seems like a surprisingly apathetic response from the police too.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
This property is really the last big piece of the downtown puzzle that hasn't been "solved" yet

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
I toured that building a month ago. There will be parking on the inside with apartments on the outside, on at least some of the upper floors. Sandvick will be the architect doing the historic tax credit application

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I saw the website for shorewayliving.com the other day. It's not up live yet, but the images & graphics are pretty cool. Panaramic views of the lake, downtown & BP, plus some little rolling waves lapping up on Edgewater beach in some sort of video loop. Looks like they are planning a fitness center on the ground floor by the train tracks, but are totally open to doing some nice dining/retail.
