Campus district is accurate. It's essentially focused on E.22nd corridor between Tri-C & CSU

Cleveland: Campus District
DONE. And not because of what I posted above, but because of what I've posted below....... EAST 22ND STREET CORRIDOR / CAMPUS DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION AND REDEVELOPMENT PLAN AUGUST 2011 - DRAFT CLEVELAND, OHIO http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2011/12022011/2011-08-15CampusDistrictTLCI_FINALl.pdf That's a nice document. CMHA has submitted grants for redeveloping their Old Cedar property but they've been denied the last two times. They have aggressive plans to start redeveloping this property in 2012 & 2013 since Tri-C & CSU are expanding on either side. I'm hearing their goal would be more of a mixed income development, similar to Tremont Point, but something that could also provide housing specific to college students, as an option to the dorms.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I think if this latest plan is mothballed, it's going to be a wet blanket on any further development in the area. Alot of the progress has been contingent on this latest version of the plan moving forward according to schedules outlined and updated for several years now. Reminder, community meeting is tomorrow night, Thursday, 6-8pm, December 1st at Franklin Circle Community Church, located at 1688 Fulton Rd. in Cleveland regarding the possible funding cuts to the West Shoreway project by ODOT. City of Cleveland Planning Director Robert Brown will be joined by Councilman Matt Zone, Councilman Joe Cimperman, and Councilman Jay Westbrook to receive input from the community regarding this project.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I already spoke to Councilman Zone about this some time ago and his desire is to keep this area for manufacturing/industrial of some type, rather than redevelop for residential.... besides, unless you could get the full parcel for development, including the Westinghouse building up against the Shoreway and associated buildings, it's not nearly as desirable. Still an interesting parcel to watch for developments.

Student group trip to Cleveland - suggestions?
if Maron or someone from Downtown Cleveland Alliance is going to make himself available to tell the story of East 4th, by all means take that opportunity. It's a very cool story as they worked for years to assemble and transform those parcels from what they are to what it is now

CURRENT Tremont Reviews/Thoughts please!
I live in Cleveland and have been going to Tremont for years. I suppose the criminal aspect is getting better but just barely. This summer my wife & I were confronted & harrassed by a group of young punks while walking to our car after dinner. That quickly could've gotten ugly. That stuff doesn't happen in Detroit Shoreway or Kamm's. I've said it for years, Tremont really needs a major streetscape project to fix the sidewalks, hide all the mess of overhead wires, and add more lighting. Walking from Southside over to Edisons for example can take one through a number of poorly lit sketchy spots. Despite all this, Tremont is still our favorite dinner destination. Not many places to stick around afterward for a night of drinking though like there is in Ohio City.

Student group trip to Cleveland - suggestions?
Great suggestions already by others, but a few I'll add historic preservation: Hyatt Regency Arcade brownfield redevelopment: Battery Park Real estate/planning/housing: CMHA's Garden Valley/Kinsman development

^maybe a general understanding of possible bowl ban this year and loss of a few scholarships, but I doubt any assurances were given... It will be very fun to watch & see how quickly Meyer has success at OSU. I think he can get most any player in the country to come play for OSU now and he has a good foundation to build on, but Buckeye fans aren't content with winning Big 10 titles, we want another National title. Meyer should get them a shot, but Oklahoma, USC, LSU, Alabama and other programs aren't going away anytime soon

If Miller didn't overthrow Posey by 10 yards on that final drive 2nd down play, that would have been the final score and OSU would have won.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Me too. Well put. I get that alot of people on this board & elsewhere feel like the Shoreway project doesn't go far enough to create lakefront development but if it remains a concrete divided highway, that development will NEVER happen. This project needs to go forward so that sometime down the line, the basics are there to allow development along a 35mph boulevard....

i just don't see it happening. Miller has plateau'd in terms of his progress - holds the ball too long, stares down his receivers, struggles with accuracy, alot of mistakes in game management, recognizing coverages... running game lacks consistency... rarely are they able to move the pile to get the short yard when they need it. RB's can't break tackles like Beanie Wells could and go down easily with arm tackles. Defense seems out of position too often, very succeptible to short passing game which Michigan does very well. I think they lack overall team speed to hang with Michigan. And it's on the road. Emotions included, I stick with Michigan winning by double digits. Speaking of emotions, how many remember when it was the week of the OSU/Michigan game that Bo Schembechler died? Wasn't that Lloyd Carr's last game too? I can't imagine a more emotional game for Michigan players and coaches, and OSU still won that game....

so what's your game prediction?

Emotion doesn't get you very far in a football game. Very soon afterward it comes down to speed, strength, & skill. Michigan wins by double digits.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Increased connection and pedestrian access points to the existing neighborhoods, increased recreation options with new multi-use paths, increased safety by redesigning the 25th/28th interchange, increased vehicle access to the Gordon Square & Battery Park neighborhoods which are currently only accessed by backtracking from Clifton on the west or from east coming off 49th/Tillman. I can tell you first hand the residents of these existing neighborhoods are overwhelmed by the increased traffic these new developments have brought. A new outlet is needed in the worst way. Perhaps it would be beneficial if everyone went back & read the latest ODOT presentation on the project before commenting.... http://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/ClevelandUrbanCoreProjects/LakefrontWest/Presentations/Documents/86478_2010-02-04_Design_Review_Presentation.pdf

Have you watched Michigan play lately? They are very explosive and can beat teams equally with the pass or the run. Toussant has reinvigorated that offense and taken the pressure of Denard Robinson to make every play himself. Michigan has scored over 30 eight times now and been held to less than 28 once. No way can OSU hang with them in a track meet.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
anybody see any conceivable way that OSU can beat Michigan this weekend that doesn't involve the Michigan team buses getting lost before the game? Michigan is playing very well right now and OSU is not. Also dealing with some injuries. This one could get ugly, I'm calling Michigan by 20+. I'll go with Michigan 37-16.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I shouldn't do it to myself, but reading the comments on the latest PD articles really shows how uneducated people are about the scope & intent of this project... it's a shame. Many more people would support it if there was better efforts to inform and create interest among the many west siders who just zip along...

Buckeyes rely on the big play too much. They seem incapable of putting together a 12-14 play 70-80 yard drive which chews up the clock. If they don't get a big play, they kill it with penalties or a fumble or dropped pass...

I'm sure their maintenance budget has been halved and halved again, but it's still a disgrace to see that piece of property neglected. I'm embarrassed to take people down there now.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
On a side note, I went down to Edgewater this morning to take pictures of the lower tunnel entrances at Lake & 76th. The park is such a mess, I had to struggle to find a shot that didn't have overgrown weeds, dead branches lying around, or graffiti. What a shameful mess. Trees & branches that blew down from the storm in August still lay around, fences are rusted apart & falling down, the shelter houses look a mess.

Those reports of Urban Meyer agreeing to a deal are totally unfounded internet rumors. Having said that, I hope it's true and he is the next coach. Fickell's been good for a season, but he's in over his head. He should go be a head coach at a MAC school, continue to build his resume, then come back and take over in another 10-12 yrs

A public meeting will be held Thurs Dec 1st at Fulton Community Church, 1688 Fulton Road, 6-8 pm. Project update & community dialogue on transforming the West Shoreway into a landscaped lakefront boulevard. On another note, progress this week on landscaping, railings and other finishing touches on the tunnel projects at Lake & 76th. Still need to complete the work at 76th between the RR tracks & the Shoreway, but the upper section in Battery Park and the lower section in Edgewater are pretty well done. Maybe I'll get some photos up this weekend.
