  1. I expected to get shredded for that viewpoint. Surprised to see I'm not alone
  2. In a nutshell, "no". I think Cleveland is now a city with less than 400k people and we already have a number of neighborhoods where development and seeds are being focused. Cleveland doesn't have the resources to nurture these areas as it is, they have to do it on their own and some are thriving, some are struggling. People might tell you that Slavic Village is on the priority list for the city, but it's not from what I've seen.
  3. Was down in Little Italy Sat night also. Drove past Club Isabella's, they were packed. Must be doing something right, every car parked there was a Jag, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc
  4. Scott Phillips, Keller Williams, is the local agent who handles all the sales at BP. He can advise on anything that might be available to rent also
  5. There's nothing specifically for rent, but occasionally people rent their places if they have to move for a job, get married & need a bigger place, etc. I know of two places for sale out there now where the owners might consider a long term lease instead of selling...
  6. and since this thread constantly gets mixed with the Shoreway thread, that picture perfectly shows the old vacant warehouse is what will be demo'd to make an east/west connection over to W. 70th

    LOL! Beat me to it
  8. it's pretty much the worst kept secret in the world. They are waiting on some financing details, otherwise ready to go
  9. Blue Knight Security out of Euclid, ask for the owner, Rick. He isn't big time, but he does quality and doesn't cut corners on anything. Alot of companies give you a cheap install then rake you on the monthly bill. He'll walk your house & point out all the potential ways people can get in and he's a former police detective

the online dating scene has allowed everyone to be "juggling" multiple prospects... any given night of the week you walk into a wine bar or neighborhood pub, you're likely to see two people meeting for the first time for some rendezvous arranged via match.com or whatever
  11. Tying into this was something I recently read that stated "full employment" used to be 3%. That was a different era however when there were alot of manual labor jobs, more tellers, cashiers, etc. So much has been replaced by technology, perhaps the new "full employment" rate is 5 or 6%. I don't know.
  12. Some misc Battery Park developments to report on: - parking area at north end of 73rd/74th is nearly complete - next building started foundations today right across from it - Battery Park winebar got a new outdoor patio slab, stamped concrete, should have furniture & railings up soon - upper portion of the 76th tunnel is nearly complete - just need some landscaping & light poles to complete. Lower portion still needs alot of work
  13. interesting statistics but you ignored the point.
  14. When was the last time the US built an 800 mile section of interstate highway?
  15. That's a great article and I don't deny we're getting crushed by China in this field, but what the article doesn't point out is how much more difficult such an undertaking is in the US. How many different land owners would have to be bought out to complete an 800 mile run? China is the only major land holder there, so they don't spend years in court trying to take lands through eminent domain like we do here. What are their construction costs compared to ours? What are their operating costs compared to ours? Again, I'm not arguing against such a project in the US, but a better article would be one that focuses on how difficult it would be to accomplish such a project in the US.
  16. Big event this weekend for Gordon Square/Detroit Shoreway. Lots of happenings, trolley running back & forth between here & UC for "Parade the Circle". Click here to see the map of events & schedule of times. Fingers crossed for good weather. http://discover.gordonsquare.org/
  17. Of course Pryor has been an assache to the program, but any true fan would be lying to say they won't miss a 4 year starter coming back for his senior year. Having said that, I think OSU will be fine and it brings additional closure to the program. I feel sorry for him too, because he's done himself no favors by running amuck at OSU. Whomever is advising this guy is kidding themselves if they think he's got much of an NFL career ahead of him.
  18. Not sure exactly where to post this but I guess this is as good as any of the other dozen threads on passenger rail Interesting article I came across regarding union work rules harming transit productivity http://marketurbanism.com/2011/05/15/five-union-work-rules-that-harm-transit-productivity/

What does this have to do with whether you're in a union or not? People pull this crap in any company big enough where you can pass the buck to someone else. I see it all the time at the company I work for, which employs over 20,000 non-union employees. If the landscaping was privatized at Edgewater with a single supervisor from the state to make sure the work was done properly and timely, it wouldn't be an issue. If the work was done crappy, get a new company next year or withhold payment till it's done properly. Instead we're stuck with state workers who know their job is secure forever regardless....

interesting article today on Judge Russo pushing to make Edgewater part of the Cleveland Metroparks system... http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/06/probate_judge_anthony_russo_us.html I personally don't care who runs it, as long as it gets better attention than what it's getting now

I know a number of the condos in the Lakewood highrises are available to rent, check out craigslist. Some other neat older buildings that are BY the lake across from Edgewater park, 4 stories, some have lakefront views...
  22. i think I'll celebrate by having drinks Friday after work at Shooters and trying to envision the completed project...

Thanks for moving the thread, wasn't aware of this one... Of course it was Memorial weekend but I don't think that changes much. Did other states have their highway patrols ramped up to the ridiculous levels that Ohio has? Of course not. Any other day or weekend, Ohio's level of patrol must be several times greater than surrounding states. I briefly scanned the web to try and come up with some numbers but was unsuccessful.

^really? how do you figure? That mission statement could be interpreted to include just about every nook & cranny of the state... Regardless, when you drive throughout Ohio and really pay attention to their staffing level, it seems absurd. Of course they are still catching criminals and preventing crimes, but at what point is the number of troopers overkill?
