Oh, from the way friends and local media were crying, it was much worse. I would actually agree with him; the Cavs have been totally incompetent -- as bad as the Browns; the Mike Brown-go-round just highlighted what a joke we've become... I'm hoping for better days with Griffin. ... Speaking of Simmons, for some reason this morning, both Simmons and Philly media are predicting the Cavs will take Embiid. A serious big man would be nice, considering how Thompson and Andy were constantly pushed around by big/tough front courts like Chicago and Detroit -- before the latter completely fell apart by season's end... But I'd much a rather have Wiggins. For one thing, Embiid's back issues scare me; that's worrisome for a big man (remember Brad Daugherty?). Plus, although Embiid has more scoring potential than Noel, he's not projected as a scorer ... yet. As Anthony Davis has proven, though, that can change... But Wiggins just has sick upside. He's so quick, has long strides and gets to the hoop easily, like,... like, well, you know who. Let's hope Griffin doesn't have the Smartest-Guy-in-the-room disease like Grant, and make the safe pick which would be Wiggins. Parker wouldn't upset me; he's a nice player who will be very good also, but I want Wiggins.

Jake, are you saying you’d rather have Cincy’s no rapid transit to Cleveland’s imperfect one? I sure wouldn’t. Yes, the Cleveland Red Line has been the whipping boy for transit purest for decades. But the fact is, almost no medium-size, moderately dense American city has built an up-the-gut subway or elevated rapid transit line: not Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Denver or Baltimore, to name a few – and as we know, many others have decided to build little or no rapid transit at all… They saw the subway and then they blinked: too expensive, they said … It’s a fact of life the places like Cleveland, that at least got off their collective arses and actually built mass transit, almost always chose the least expensive option – for Cleveland that meant using a fast ROW next to freight/passenger rail lines undulating through city proper. Even the Cincy subway tunnels we wish were/will be developed, took the path of least resistance: they were built in a drained canal bed. This means the tunnel route itself skirts OTR and goes nowhere near UC and its dense Clifton Heights neighborhood where a huge chunk of Cincinnatians live… and at the other end, money dried up and the tunnels point toward, but don’t extend under narrow/dense Walnut Street to the core Fountain Square area… And the fact that the portion that was built wasn’t placed into operation… chalk it up to life in not-so-transit-friendly America… And btw, Cleveland’s Red Line is not entirely built in “obscure gullies 1/4 mile or more away from any established commercial node” -- W. 25-Ohio City isn’t, nor are Tower City, or the 2 new U. Circle Stops … and at one end, it does terminate nearly directly below the baggage claim of its major international airport… not bad, I say… Fact is, the Red Line is bouncing back/getting stronger and even spawning TOD at places like Tower City/E. 4th St, Ohio City and University Circle/Uptown… also, the relocating UC-Little Italy station will put a station (elevated btw, and not in a ‘gulley’) a mere steps from the heart of Little Italy, an old, thriving neighborhood with Brooklyn, NY-like density… and on the station’s other flank, UC-Little Italy passengers will be one block from the massive new Uptown mixed-use development --- and if that isn’t good enough, it now appears that the dense, mixed-use (office/apartment/street retail) Intesa project may begin rising soon directly adjacent to this rail station… No, the Red Line isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty darn good; and it looks even better when I look around at Cleveland’s peers.

^This isn't about Cleveland. Denver gets snow: significant Rocky Mountain snow; several feet sometimes. And the fact is, any city other than non-snowy, perpetually tropical-type weather such as much of California and Florida, ought not be building open air central platforms exposing passengers to the elements. I repeat: it's foolish.

^The video board is kinda sexy. However, let's hope it's a bit more toned down than Horseshoe's at Ontario/Broadway/Huron, who's nighttime displays are downright blinding.

True dat. There are ways to quietly ratchet up the pressure without shaming vendors, whose service everyone obviously appreciates. But it's the 21st Century and Cleveland is one of the few (if only) big city major markets that I know of with such limited hours.

Has the revised report of 5/12/14 been circulated among stakeholders? Given the more favorable analysis toward Red Line extension, it would be nice if these stakeholders would be made aware and get behind this project: movers/shakers like Chris Ronayne, Mike Polansek (who’s Collinwood ward would be served by Red Line expansion, and who has expressed pro-Red Line expansion sentiment), the Euclid mayor and others… Is this happening? Obviously there have been public meetings, but I'm not reading or hearing any public officials commenting on the study or getting behind Red Line expansion... like, say, the Opportunity Corridor where public officials have all lined up and supported the roadway very little study.

The WSM will never reach its potential with it's wacky 4-day schedule. Those closed days both hurt the market as well as the neighborhood. It's about time the City finally stand up to those bitching owners who constantly beat back any hint of an expanded schedule. If they don't like (at least) a 6-day schedule (Sunday, OK, can be an off day), the City can find someone else.

Hate to see such a gorgeous landmark destroyed, but I guess there's not many compatible uses for such a large church building and, at this point, after 2 decades of sitting empty, it doesn't appear any will. The rock climbing thing was a fantasy. The new housing looks to be nice. It still stings because a major piece of irreplaceable architecture will be bulldozed and, thus, the neighborhood character diminished. Damn shame.

Should be nice, but let's face it, sports bars are a dime-a-dozen in a sports crazed city like Cleveland -- there's probably 50 within a 10 min walk of the casino (and that's probably conservative)... Also, there are 2 bar/sports lounge areas (with flat-screens) already in Horseshoe (multiple screens on the 1st level). I am curious about this new video table game, though.

^I wouldn't have any problem with the Red Line terminating at Euclid Sq. -- that's probably about as far as it should go -- it would reach the N.E. corner of Cuyahoga County in Euclid and nearby several substantial burbs just inside the western border of Lake County. It would turn the 7.8 Stokes-Windermere branch into a 14.3 line -- that's pretty long for a rapid line in a medium sized city/metro area (those absurdly long 25+ mile D.C. Metro lines are unusual). Beyond Euclid Sq, diesel commuter rail would seem most logical, probably the DMU's KJP mentioned.

^^gotribe -- those are all worthwhile extensions imho. To be honest, I don't really know what the genesis of the Red Line/BRT proposal was but wherever it was, I'm pleased it happened. My guess is that RTA settled on this one, in part, because of all the development, and concomitant congestion, at University Circle; the fact that the Red Line ends in a stub in a poor city and can be extended along a relatively straight, flat existing ROW and that it has the potential to draw in significant Lake County traffic without having to extend the line into Lake County (and battling with a political jurisdication semi or not interested in sharing costs) ... Also the fact there is currently no real quick route to access U. Circle from the far NE by car or transit and that a relatively inexpensive (note the word "relatively") high-speed/high capacity rail line could both get people to the Circle (and downtown, Ohio City and the Airport) quickly and take cars off the street -- this latest twist in FTA analysis indicates substantially more than originally thought. Also, the projected terminal at Euclid Square is right at junction of 2 substantial radial freeways (and connecting to the Outerbelt East south along I-271). If Cleveland's quirky transit riders prove anything, is that they are often willing to drive substantial freeway distances, hop off and park at Rapid terminals for the easy/quick ride into downtown. I'm sure that's a factor here... the study KJP cites indicate these factors were in play, as well as the positive impact on the transit dependent in the corridor... ^KJP -- I know full-blown Red Line expansion is going to be a reach, but I'll hold out hope. The Dual-Hub subway (which I still believe in) is a deal-breaker cost-wise in a lot of cities. The fact the 6.5 mile Red Line extension is at surface along a rail ROW spanned by heavy electrical transmission lines, hopefully will allow it to be reasonably cost effective, esp in mirroring West Side service frequency as you note. I also hope/wish simpler unmanned, street-level stations with ADA ramps, esp the presumed terminal at the Euclid Square terminal, could make Red Line extension even more cost effective. I'm also hoping that use of the existing maintenance facility at E. 55 would negate any kind of elaborate terminal facilities at Euclid Square, even further holding down costs.
