  1. I'm not a Bauer fan (obviously) but as I texted my buddies, that 4th inning could have been worse; Bauer managed to get out of it with only a 2-run deficit despite being the 1st Indians pitcher to blow a lead in postseason... A 2-run deficit for these guys is not insurmountable. But we were 1-10 with runners in scoring position. I was frustrated with Kipnis' at bat because Davis' running on base was clearly distracting Chapman who was throwing out of the strike zone. But Jason kept swinging anyway when he should have walked. Oh well, it just wasn't meant to be. Jake worries me tonight because he's a Cy Young guy with 2 no hitters these past 2 seasons and he no-hit us into the 6th inning in Game 2. Obviously Jake's a tough nut to crack but we've got to have patient at bats because Jake has some wild periods where we need to force him to come over the plate... Hopefully we'll get another repeat Tomlin great performance in the friendly confines of the Prog... GAME ON!
  2. Agreed. I know Tito lacks a lot of options, but Bauer has been consistently inconsistent recently including the postseason, where he's been a total failure; he's a head case and a headache... Ironically Bauer did the team a favor by injuring himself and bleeding out of Game 5 in Toronto and allowing young Ryan Merrit to lead us to a closeout victory. Had a healthy Bauer pitched, he likely, as usual, would have imploded and we would have had to go to at least a Game 6 to win. I think the Bauer start has been the only misstep for Tito who, quite obviously has been beyond stellar. Let's hope Game 5, especially the disastrous 4th inning, won't come back to bite us in the butt.
  3. Sorry, when it comes to NOACA or RTA re TOD, it's always the same: much talk, no action.
  4. .... ahhhh. I can breathe again.
  5. Just pulled it on Google Street Views, where you can only see a corner of the house. I never traverse this pocket neighborhood which seems cut off from the world but probably has some nice views of downtown, UC, ... the lake?.. While there appears to be some decay here and CMHA buildings (Woodhill Estates) at the edge, it appears to be fairly in tact (per Google 2014) including many well kept homes. Hope they save this place although it looks in pretty bad shape. It could be a positive catalyst for the neighborhood generally.

The Paris Metro Line 6 is rubber-wheeled; it's not all that much quieter, surprisingly. A few cities where driverless buses are already in operation: http://gizmodo.com/5-cities-with-driverless-public-buses-on-the-streets-ri-1736146699 Interesting... I also once read that the rubber tires were used on these subways to lower the vibrations to building foundations.
  7. ^Gray trains? Center doors? Wow, you are old. :-o Did you ride horse cars too?

Thanks for the report. Glad you and Sis had a nice time... ...btw isn't Old City Libations one of those successful "Cleveland Hustles" (LeBron's reality TV show) start-ups?
  9. ...btw, I'm also on board with Triskett being one of, if not the, finest of RTA's rail station rebuilds. It's physically modern, beautiful and substantial -- more importantly, back in those days (ie the 1990s), RTA didn't scrimp on escalators -- which should be a staple in each major Red Line station. RTA actually removed them when Puritas station just a few miles down the line, was rebuilt 5 or so years ago. (quick aside) ...one exception from the 1990s was W. 25 which was built with just stairs and an elevator (RTA's current standard)... Of course back in the early 1990s I believe the Market Square area was a dump (besides WSM) with few attractions and modest foot traffic so, I guess, the Ron Tober-led RTA didn't feel they were warranted. Of course RTA didn't foresee the bustling neighborhood that Market Square is today where commuters often nearly overwhelm the narrow stairs and platform of W. 25 and where the lack of escalators there are a serious impediment.
  10. Really cool thread... Like MTS, glad you made it over to the great and beautiful Shaker Square and, yes, Michael's Diner is a classic, under-appreciated all-night (on weekends anyway) diner. I can't think of another similar eatery so close to live trains either.

$5.5B is some serious coin for a 42-mile rail network... Denver is spending that amount, or less, for a rapid/commuter rail network that will reach 116 miles, when the current budgeted extensions are built out.

I'll be very interested to see how REM works out in Montreal, whose rubber-tired Metro has long been a model transit network. We went to the Montreal Jazz festival a decade ago and practically lived on the Metro, which greatly enhances the City's already great walkability.
  13. ... and Jonathan Lucroy? ... Hope he's watching Roberto Perez star for the Indians in the World Series on television...
  14. YES!!!! ... just 3 more to go.
  15. Nice set... I spent my one and only week in Seattle over a decade ago during the summer. Oddly enough, it didn't rain a drop. Seattle is a very beautiful, bustling city which reminds me of San Francisco because of the hills. It falls just short of SF in terms of sheer beauty and excitement, but Seattle is certainly no slouch and, imho, often underrated as a borderline world class city.
  16. I don't know anyone here that is an RTA apologist. But not everything RTA does is suspect or malicious. Yes, we should hold their feet to the fire, but also should recognize that they are often doing the best that they can. I'll say sometimes they're doing the best they can. I have applauded RTA for things like the downtown Trolleys and leveraging federal money to rebuild aging rail stations...and the UC-Little Italy relocated station is a gem both in form and function... ...but when RTA is bad it seems it is either met with silence (ie: Joe Calabrese's tacit attempt to blame Tower City for the temp elevator debacle, which itself is inexcusable ... yet it only merited crickets ...), the lack of planning or attempt to seek P3 funding or engage in a serious TOD initiative.... The Blue-Green rail car crisis should be subject to investigation and, yet when Calabrese denies the system is in peril, people seem to accept it despite strong evidence to the contrary... The Blue-Green train disaster during the Cavs' celebration could/should have been avoided. (Joe C bizarrely got a public/media pat on the back for the Old College try on that one, including on UO where people know better). No one is denying that Ohio is more than absurd with it's non-funding of transit and that this is beyond RTA's control. But had RTA officials long ago stepped up and addressed the LRT car issue, funding could have been sought-probably had to replace these old, poorly built cars...it's not like people woke up and realized there was a problem yesterday... Other issues: Dirty buses, cars, right-of-ways and rundown fafacilities... I noted the other day that the 11-year-old E.105 station has rusted out steps...it has been said that RTA does not prioritize facility maintenance so facilities like stations become rundown....in some cases to the extent of requiring expensive partial rebuilds.. The Shaker Boulevard open cut between Shaker Sq. and Woodhill is weed-covered and full of trash, and has been that way, now, for years... Not maintaining clean facilities is a CHOICE that is not dictated by a lack of money. RTA's communication with the public is terrible on many levels, notably on explaining why there are specific rail shutdowns of the way too many of them. ...and yes, I firmly believe RTA has way too many near total rail shutdowns. And despite comments to the contrary, I have yet to see other transit systems shut down rail (constantly) because road-non transit maintenance of construction.... 2 weeks ago the entire East Side Rapid network (about 2/3s the system) because of "ODOT" -- that was the explanation; even though the Inner Belt bridge over the Rapid had, had it's ribbon cutting 2 weeks prior....no explanation. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.
  17. It's truly disheartening on UO it seems there's at least as much, if not more, effort apolgizing for and defending RTA's suspect actions than there is getting at the truth.
  18. ^^Exactly!...Next weekend, RTA is shutting down the Blue and Green lines but with no explanation as to why. In fact they have a whloe upcoming schedule of weekend rail shutdowns but no explanation as to why. That just should not be happening.

^Yes most of the trendy downtowns like Cleveland's are playgrounds for adults, not kids...That said, Punch Bowl and Corner Alley are the exceptions with bowling, pinball, air hockey and video games among other things...
  21. Oh, and then there's this out the door: "NOACA is in the process of updating the region’s Long Range Transportation Plan for 2040. NOACA is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Lorain, and Medina counties. The primary job of its 45-member board, comprised largely of top elected and public agency officials, is to allocate billions of federal and state transportation dollars that flow into the region every decade. The updated long range transportation plan will focus on improving social equity, particularly for households without cars. The Red Line/HealthLine Extension Study has documented how sprawling development patterns and the outmigration of population from Cuyahoga County to outlying counties has had a detrimental impact on public transit services. RTA and community leaders are actively seeking ways to increase state and local support for increased transit funding. Without additional funding, transit service and infrastructure will continue to decline. What’s Next? Gain support for increased transit funding from state and local partners, Continue project planning efforts to improve FTA ratings, Select a recommended alternative, Study alternatives in smaller investment segments, Work with local communities to plan and participate in funding transit investments, Continue to develop transit-oriented development opportunities, and Develop policies that support transit with community partners." Seemed they could have put it more succinctly: "blah, blah, blah, ..."
  22. None of this is surprising.
  23. I haven't been in there in about a decade, but when I was there they we were on the 2nd level and there was heavy equipment and inventory everywhere. They also had quite a few customers.
  24. ^^What could be cool is if Samsel stayed as ground-level retail with apartments above. Obviously, though, much of their stuff would have to go elsewhere.
  25. ^Shucks... Wonder if, with some grant or tax credits, the City could finance their relocation, at least partially.
