^I really like JR Smith's firepower -- we know that, when he's on, he can be lethal. But with he and Kyrie, late, there weren't enough basketballs -- it didn't move and, once again, Kevin Love seemed to get frozen out in the 4th... But can someone answer me why Tim Mozgov was on the bench for the 4th quarter until the last 2 minutes when Blatt put him in after the game was out of reach? If you notice, Draymond Green, Mo Speights and even Harrison Barnes were killing us in the paint -- the kind of stuff Mozgov was supposed to protect against with his size and agility... He ws very effective earlier in the game at both ends, and even going to the whole where the officials swallowed their whistles while he was getting hammered when taking to the hole (I'm not normally a refs complainer, but those guys last night were much worse than usual)... It was a close game going into the 4th but GS blew us out... Oh yeah, and as usual, there was Blatt's old standby Delly hogging the ball and dribbling into trouble during crunch time... I like Dellavedova, but he's not an elite player despite the fact that his coach continues to throw him in against elite talent in key situations... Besides this, I'm really excited again about this team... excited about the new talent we have. We are deep and we gave the Warriors 3 quarters of competitive ball on their home court where they've lost 1 game this entire season -- and this was without LeBron, as well as no Marion and, of course, no Shumpert for a while... But with every passing game i become more convinced that Blatt's not capable of taking us to the promise land. He's yet another one of those "Smartest guys in the room" stubborn/my way coaches that like going against the obvious and the conventional.
  2. Some interesting tidbits from Michelle in the comments section of her nuCLEus article: Thanks for commenting. The question about new office space is a fair one. In the case of the Flats East Bank project, most of the tenants at the E&Y Tower came from other downtown buildings - many of them from the former Huntington Building at East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue. Some of those tenants, including Ernst & Young, wanted newer, more efficient space, which wasn't available in the central business district. Tenants who want a different sort of product are driving demand, but the overall office vacancy rate in downtown Cleveland doesn't make a slam-dunk case for new construction. It will be interesting to see whether the Flats developers can line up enough tenants to support a second, smaller office building, whether Stark and J-Dek can generate enough interest to make nuCLEus happen and whether there's demand for potential office space at the proposed Cumberland Development/Trammell Crow project on the downtown lakefront. And, of course, there are other downtown properties that have cropped up as potential office-construction sites over the years. 3. Oh there's going to be some push-back because of what you say... As you know, downtown Cleveland buildings seem either big or small depending on one's approach to the city. From the Shoreway East, nuCLEus will probably appear a lot less dominant than from I-71 SW...

Mozgov will be in uni tonight, with LeBron coming back probably for the LA games at the end of the West Coast swing. We've got to start winning some ball games, NOW. Yeah, there have been injuries and many personnel moves, but Blatt's got to start getting some W's. We lost to friggin' Philadelphia, for which there is absolutely no excuse. Love was really pissed after that game despite his gaudy personal numbers. In addition to other weird Blatt moves in that Sixers' game, he put rookie Joe Harris on red hot Tony Wroten to try and stop him on his game-winning drive to the basket. The same talented Joe Harris who is totally befuddled by his in-and-out of games yanking by Blatt.
  5. ... and with high-density of apartment and hotel residents that will be plopped down in this relatively small space just a few blocks away from the soon-to-open supermarket at Euclid/E. 9th, I'm sure the Heinen brothers are salivating right about now.
  6. As for Stark, it's time to move on. Whatever he did in the past is of little consequence now because he currently is putting his money where his mouth is which, however, consistent with his bold promises of the past -- he's conceived a development that is big; really big; a total game-changer... As for the design: I really like the rendering Michelle highlights in her article which, apparently, is the one being submitted to the CPC. It's bold, daring yet physically attractive and modern imho. And esp breaking with Cleveland's more recent short-building past (sans the currently a-building Hilton a few blocks away), it's vertical!! The one (hotel) bridge is highly innovative and will draw the architectural eyes of the world onto Cleveland... I'm glad they're not going with that one concept drawing with the 2 bridges, which is an ugly monstrosity -- it looks like a futuristic Rube-Goldberg smelting factory on steroids. The correct concept is moving forward. This tower will probably dwarf the nearby Terminal Tower, just because of its size, density and eye-catching nature. And as i noted several pages ago, this project is going to alter downtown's paradigm in terms of main retail/energy locus... Prospect will be the new center of activity, certainly from a recreational, retail and residential standpoint although, of course, Euclid will still functionally remain Cleveland's main street, at least geographically (it's the central, main, longest street out of downtown where, over a distance of miles, it forms the spine of business, education, medical, business, etc...). But make no mistake, in downtown, Prospect will now be THE STREET.
  7. Looks awesome. I just thought, though, that nuCLEus' footprint was wholly to the east of 4th street. If this rendering is true, it means sayonara to the Herold Building, although the last I recall was that L&R's permission to demolish was denied by the CPC. No?
  8. ^^ Holy sh##t, indeed ... I'll admit, I was a major Bob Stark critic when I perceived him tap-dancing and blowing smoke over in the Warehouse District for years while building all his major projects out in the burbs like Eton and Cracker, er, Crocker Park. But he's made me a believer now, because he's no longer just talking... He always said he felt Cleveland should do something BIG downtown and, well ...

Blatt is sure riding the Delly Train... he may just ride it right back to Tel Aviv.

I think a lot of people were quick to put down Waiters, from the time he was drafted at no. 4 and few knew much about him, and the rest knew he was a Syracuse bench player. He certainly had some maturity issues and needed to pass the ball more at times. But I really came to respect his game; his speed, quickness and power as well as his fearlessness in driving the lane. He became a much better finisher. In terms of his difficulty as a person, he's a choir boy compared to Smith. I think Dion and Kyrie, through the difficulties of the last 2 years, developed a mutual respect and even a liking for each other. His absence will be felt. Shumpert is a very good defensive player, but not a scorer like Dion. Let's hope Smith's longstanding relationship with LeBron will coax the 6th Man of the Year Smith out of him, as opposed to the knucklehead Smith of last year and in Denver. It remains to be seen... ... As for Mozgov, this looks like a nice pickup and I'm certainly pleased we're getting him instead of Koufus who I consider to be a borderline stiff (he's a journeyman, at best). I think some people wanted Kosta because of the Ohio State connection. I'm still worried that LeBron's condition may be more serious than the Cavs are letting on. We'll see. I also wouldn't mind bringing in Jesus Shuttlesworth for the stretch run. I keep hearing he may sign with us prior to the All Star Break.

We held Philly to 37 points in the first HALF... They scored 35 points in the 4th QUARTER.

Shumpert is a keeper, no doubt, and the obvious target. Strong player at both ends, with size, mobility, intelligence and a great attitude. His only downside (like Kyrie's) is his injury history... Obviously, the wild card is Smith. He comes with huge baggage, not to mention his giant contract (for which he'll exercise his player-option next season). If folks thought Waiters was a knucklehead (me not being one of them), Dion is a tiny piker compared to Smith... Of course, everybody's hoping because of long-standing relationship with LeBron since HS, he will calm down and play to his immense potential. We can only pray... This is going to be baptism by fire and probably the worst possible time for a player shakeup. We're obviously playing our worst basketball now and will likely be below .500 when LeBron returns (and we're not certain when that will be; I'm hearing the 2-week projection may be optimistic -- I say, let him have as much time as he needs)... We're heading into our toughest stretch, including a West Coast swing after hosting the elite Rockets tomorrow with no LeBron as the team is a total mess. Consider that Kevin Love STILL can't get the ball late in games, even yesterday against the lowly Sixers with future HOF members handling the ball, like Dellavedova, Price and Thompson (no offense to Tristan who probably won't go into the HOF, but is a significant cut above the aforementioned guys). David Blatt's a very smart guy, obviously, but either he's in over his head or the guys aren't listening to what he's saying... either way, it always falls on the coach... Haven't Cavs' fans been hearing this seemingly forever?

But we're not playing defense and haven't been all season. We've been blowing big leads in this 34-game season. Blatt's lack of NBA experience is clearly showing itself. The team is not buying what the Blatt is selling, it's not just LeBron.
  14. clvlndr replied to a post in a topic in Sports Talk
I disagree. We didn't have coaching to make it work. David Blatt just had Matt Dellevadova shoot the final shot in a loss to the worst team in basketball. We need a friggin' head coach, not to get rid of a talented player.

I like Dion. We're losing a talented, young ballplayer. He was maturing a lot under LeBron's wing... That said, Shumpert and Smith are nice players... Smith's somewhat of a knucklehead, but can play.
  16. ^I'm glad this is repair is finally being addressed... My Green Line train was delayed coming out of Tower City, and I saw how badly deteriorated that concrete is under Ontario/Huron. Much of the steel-mesh frame rods are now exposed and you can see where concrete has been flaking off with a lot of ice and water damage over the years. It looks semi-dangerous.

RTD is planning a new infill station (61st Ave & Pena) on the East Line: the electrified commuter rail line to DIA scheduled to open next year... This is interesting because the area around this new station is totally undeveloped and the new transit-oriented, dense neighborhood will rise like a phoenix from the prairie. This shows what coordinated TOD planning can bring. https://www.denvergov.org/Portals/646/documents/planning/Plans/61st_and_Pena/61-Pena-station-area-plan-web.pdf
  18. Nicer apartment, perhaps, but Broadview Hts. overall is a large step down from Shaker Square. This includes the greater diversity, and more welcoming atmosphere toward foreign individuals the Square brings over Broadview Heights, in addition to the urban conveniences you noted.
  19. Awesome photos, Andrew. You flatter this amazing neighborhood.
  20. It's very intuitive... I don't see how can't be with 100 buses (some 24-hour) and 80 trains going through/near OC's core retail district . The Rapid station, a block away, is highly visible and is even marked on colorful Ohio City maps at major intersections... I think you meant that it is confusing to drivers, not transit users, casual or otherwise, because RTA service to OC is a snap. I don't care about drivers, because these folks will drive no matter what and will up excuses not to take transit. Don't be so gruff. It is confusing because the frequency is inconsistent and the wait can be as long as 20 minutes off peak. Plus the stops for Ohio city buses are all over down town not consistent. This intimidating to visitors who are not familiar with the 7 different routes going to Ohio City. Mind your own biz and don't attempt lecture me, Biker... Of course, frequency is not 20 minutes off peak, it's 15 minutes and only 30 minutes at night... and you know that.

It was foolish to lock the team up with Andy's contract given his lack of true rim-protector status (despite all the other good he brings), and especially given his injury history. Add just 26 games played this season, to his history of incomplete seasons. Worse still is the fact that he's now 32 and his most recent Achilles tear is by far the most serious injury he's ever had which, beyond this totally lost season, could jeopardize the rest of his career. We're now on the hook to pay him just under $10M through 2016-17 ... 2017-18, thankfully, is not guaranteed. Still the damage is done and now, obviously, we can't move him at all -- probably never at this point, since he's 32+ and highly damaged goods.
  22. In light of the handsome new brick 'n glass waiting shelters constructed along Clifton Blvd for the new Enhance Lakewood/Clifton (#55 - CSU) route, it's time to follow up on a suggestion made by MyTwoSense a year or so ago: let's encourage (I don't want to say: pressure) RTA to begin a program for similar structures along the Blue and Green Lines in Shaker Heights, and finally get rid of those ugly, boxy Plexiglass bus shelters. Obviously the handsome older stations at Coventry and Lynnfield would remain as is, as would the substantial double-building at Shaker Square... In addition to finally having Rapid stations that better meshed with the lovely homes and apartments along Shaker and Van Aken, these solid new brick shelters could have the positive spin-off of (finally) encouraging RTA to junk the antiquated/confusing Pay-Enter Eastbound/Pay Leave Westbound fare system for a system-wide POP matching the Red Line. These new shelters can better house the fare machines esp in in-climate weather. RTA needs to get moving on this.
  23. ^^That looks awesome... getting excited.

There's talk of trades immediately heating up. I understand we can fit either (Tim) Mozgov or Koufus with the trade exception. I'd rather have Mozgov who's flat out a better player with more upside than Koufus, who I consider mediocre, at best; a journeyman.
