Cleveland: Random Development and News
CORRECTION (thanks @GISguy for pointing it out; I dug through some old Plain Dealer articles, courtesy of cpl.org/newspapers) The homes were demolished for noise abatement with the plans for an industrial park to be built there; only part of the industrial park was built. (NEIGHBORHOOD WON'T DIE EASILY SOME NEAR HOPKINS DON'T WANT TO LEAVE - plain dealer - October 4, 1998; (NEIGHBORHOOD WAITS FOR BULLDOZERS RESIDENTS NEAR HOPKINS AIRPORT ACCEPT NEWS OF SPEEDED-UP BUYOUT PLAN WITHSORROW, RELIEF- plain dealer- February 4, 1998) (And if you're wondering, the demos were funded by a fee tacked onto passengers' tickets) (the airport expansion was slated to be south of the airport, as @GISguy mentioned): In the late 1990s, Hopkins was at its peak: CLE was a continental hub; passenger count peaked in 1999 (https://www.clevelandairport.com/about-us/facts-figures ); new concourse D was built (now mothballed) the first flight to Europe (if i remember correctly) happened in the late 90s as well with plans for much more transatlantic travel. Thus, there were plans for expansion, so the city bought those homes and demolished them. Then 9/11, and further air carrier consolidation happened, so the plans were shelved and never happened.

The top floor is owned Ari Maron and it is his residence; I see the building was just sold in November to a LLC but there are separate parcels with air rights there.

Cleveland City Council
I have a lot to add but pressed for time at the moment but want to stress: the public comment meetings specifically for the ward maps were announced 1 week in advance; said public meetings did not have the map available for the public to view tract level data that included demographics was released in May 2023; the city could have and should have started earlier https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/decennial-census/decade/2020/planning-management/release/about-2020-data-products.html although I appreciate that the city held meetings public meetings (compared to 2014), they could have started earlier. I also used a shapefile that I obtained from Council on December 10th and imported it into Dave's and was able to replicate the 39.97% and 26.58% Hispanic as Ahn mentioned BUT the numbers that he refers to use is the VAP - the voting age population. According to my replication of are 42% and 29.5% Hispanic of total population as indicated in the attached screenshots. as indicated immediately below: Lastly, I made a map and want to share it for critique - https://www.davesredistricting.org/join/4d9e18ba-9db3-4552-9af4-3a33356b151b it's immediately below:

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
A random twitter comment reminded me of a memory that there used to be an extremely popular rib cookoff in downtown Cleveland in the 80s and 90s. I did a little bit of research and confirmed it was held at North Coast Harbor and moved to Burke Airport in 1993 because of the Rock hall and Science Center construction. One article I found from the PD said its attendance was 120,000 in 1992 which seems really impressive. Was that its peak (IN 92) ? What led to its demise ?

Parma: Development and News
Pinball will move to in a new location, to be determined. Chris (Weber) is actively looking for new spaces. If anyone knows of any places (my guess is 1500-2500 sq ft?), I can share them with him. For those not in the know, they have the largest selection (~35) of pinball machines from Toledo to Youngstown.

Parma: Development and News
On the border, but I learned Southland Lanes (west 130th and Pearl, operates in the basement of Southland Shopping Center) will be closing on June 2nd; located in the building closest to west 130th and Pearl. Been open for >40 years. Spoke to the Weber family that owns and operates the alley, wasn't their choice; landlord wants to renovate the building and after negotiations to keep it open or reopen after the renovations (Webers offered), landlord declined. The entire downstairs/lower level will be closed. No idea who the new tenant(s) will be. Property is owned by Brixmor, a national REIT based in NYC.

Cleveland: Brooklyn Centre / Old Brooklyn: Development and News
Was a bar (The Wedge Inn) for a long time: from at least the 1980s to the early-mid 2000s.; (iirc, it was an afterhours/private club for a brief time after that... ground floor was vacant since then. no idea if the bar equipment has been ripped out.

I assume that was after Cleveland Public Library moved out of there in the late 1970s to its then-new location across the street. ;)

Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
IIRC, The afterhours pickup locker will be rolled out at each of the new branches as they're renovated (I know for sure, they're already in place at Hough, Jefferson in Tremont, the West Park branch on w 157th and Newburgh Heights town hall (NH is technically a part of CPL's service district)).

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Check pg. 5-6 from https://cpl.org/wp-content/uploads/board/minutes-sept2022-reg-brd-mtg.pdf My reading of that is that the construction bids came in much higher than what CPL and NN CDO (the community development organization, formerly detroit-shoreway cdc) expected and had set aside so now CDO is trying to come up with additional $ to fund it. (CPL is using $ from their reserves to cover their end)

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
An acquaintance asked me a few weeks ago about what land RTA owned and I was curious myself; so I compiled the data set of parcels in Cuyahoga County; and marked in red on this map - https://skorasaur.us/maps/2022-09-RTA_properties.html If I get time or willingness, I'll create a bulleted text list with the addresses so you can more clearly see them. (RTA's properties are deeded under 20 different names, which was annoying during my work, including and not limited to: GCRTA cleveland RTA Greater Cleveland - R T A Greater Cleve R T A THE GREATER CLEVELAND TRANSIT AUTHORITY Greater Cleve Trans Auth.
