  1. I also recall reading that as well and it has been since 2009.
  2. Jeff, great pictures. I rode my bicycle through South Hills as an adolescent very often. Schaaf sits atop of a hill, and those side streets don't have too much traffic, and I would coast down those hills. The neighborhood is underrated. Most of the housing stock in South Hills is a bit better and larger, in terms of sq. footage of the house with larger front yards than other areas of Old Brooklyn. Growing up, very few, if any, of my classmates at OLGC were from South Hills; I'd imagine most went to St. Leo's instead. Also interesting to note: Next to the south hills area (or perhaps this area is still south hills neighborhood), there's a development of ranches (west of 176, south of spring, north of schaaf, east of morningside) except for 1 or 2 streets that have different housing stock than the development and the rest of the neighborhood. The garages are out in front, [there's probably an architectural style for these houses, I don't know the name]. Here's a google street view of it: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1010+sheryl+ave,+cleveland+ohio&aq=&sll=41.427766,-81.686633&sspn=0.007401,0.022037&gl=us&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=1010+Sheryl+Dr,+Cleveland,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio+44109&ll=41.427766,-81.686633&spn=0.007336,0.022037&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=41.427778,-81.686622&panoid=8xAYpnFj5qv6WtrXP44OzA&cbp=12,82.07,,0,1.53 That street reminds me of the southwest USA for some reason (I often biked through it in the late 90s, early 2000s, from what I remember, a few of those houses on Sheryl had gravel instead of grass for their lawns)
  3. (I'm a bit under the weather right now on cold meds, so I hope this makes sense). :-P I was at Friday's planning meeting. [the following refers to the south side of Euclid]. The 6900 is planned to be demo'd. In fact, it used to house a co-op started by the former cdc in hough (it was mentioned at the meeting that the Hough CDC, no longer in existence, was one of the first CDCs in the country); the commissioners hoped a plaque would be made to commemorate the history there. Midtown Acquisition is owned by Hemingway Acquisition; they received a 720,000 VPI loan for this project from the city. 108,000 is forgiven if 22 jobs are created. Midtown Acq. wants to tear down 6900 for parking. Norm Krumholz expressed concern initially about it (as more parking, creates less dense areas). He or someone else mentioned, why not use the rail ? One of the other members on the commission said that the rail is only popular for people to go out for lunch and if free parking wasn't available there, businesses wouldn't move there or downtown [personally, I wonder if there's evidence for that]. In the end, it was passed unanimously [one or 2 seats were empty but I don't remember who wasn't there].
  4. Picture now works for me. No idea though on #31, it looks slightly overcast in the picture, which is abnormal. Most of the google street view images in cleveland were taken on sunny days.
  5. My favorite: the Library Reading Plaza [i presume that's the name for the space I'm thinking of, that is between the 2 buildings in the main branch. None of them, as far as I know, have a large space [the size of a football field] that is flat, contiguous, green space without trees or sidewalks. :? Having such a large, green space would be useful for multiple situations and give another reason for people to be downtown. If my friends and I want to meet in a central location to throw a frisbee or football, downtown works well for us as a central location. There's Kirkland park, next to 90, although one time that we went, it was windier than usual. and it's a bit off of downtown. -P Unfortunately, there's nowhere else to go. Although not downtown, we just end up at Edgewater. For the city, the cost would be probably be lower to maintain than other parks (that have equipment like playgrounds or trees to trim). Where are downtown residents supposed to go if they want green space ?
  6. Correct in 5 minutes, that must be a record !
  7. I'm stumped on this one too. perhaps a hint, please  #30: I hope it's ok if I slightly deviate from the rules, but this is inside a building in Cleveland proper. Hint: It's open [and free] to the public.
  8. Great game. #28 has me stumped. The brick and the building seem like it could be the Agora, but the trees make me think it's not..
  9. Great pictures all around. I noticed that Nickel/5 Cent Decision isn't operating any more. Also, St. Vincent De Paul has opened a food pantry on the corner of Broadview and Searsdale, what used to be Sally Ann's [followed by another name that escapes me] Beverage store.
