Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Ah yes, thanks for the heads up on Zone. Appears they're just south of the main building on Detroit, so I'd never seen them. I had tried Gordon Park a couple summers back, but those courts had sadly been torn out/left to rot. Point remains: too bad we lost our public option in the downtown vicinity, though I understand the short-term $ considerations from CSU. There used to be a lot more in the city including ones next to the Muni Lot downtown (although not the best location for them); IIRC, they were also at where the dog park now stands at the Clark Fields in Tremont... the city once had a very vibrant summer tennis league (several hundreds of kids, from 15-20 playgrounds) from the early 80s to the early 00s; another program has come up in its place - http://www.innercitytennis.net/

Yes, quite a few including the ones that bumsquare mentioned: Here's a map of them http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/glN The map is mostly up to date; the old ones on CSU's campus have been updated yet. (If you'd like to update it, register at openstreetmap.org and edit it :) )

Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
Any idea what's being constructed here on the northeast corner of St. Clair and Marquette? I'm specifically referring to the new brick construction in the back of the photo The sidewalk/barrels is unrelated from a gas main replacement.

Cleveland: North Coast Transportation Center
While I appreciate public transit investment and your effort KJP, I'd prefer a $38 million investment to go towards increasing service frequency & Capital investment for RTA (replacing the rail cars, catching up on deferred rail maintenance). Alas, TIGER funding doesn't go to this (please correct me if I'm wrong).

It was done by ThunderTech, a local tech company; there was a RFP put out for it over a year ago. This is an improvement of what was there.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Does it have to though? Think of what Detroit Avenue could be, from downtown to the Rocky River valley and beyond, if the west 80s weren't quite so bad. It was hoped that investments in Gordon Square would eventually radiate value outward. For pedestrian purposes, this is a stone's throw away. No, it doesn't and I think Detroit Avenue between 117th and Gordon Square can gentrify in the next 10-15 years and predict it will if the increased development and investment in Detroit-Shoreway, Battery Park, migration patterns, and housing trends continues. Heck, I think a lot of people don't realize how nice Edgewater already is.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I understand where you're coming from, but there's already a lot of social services in Gordon Square or along Detroit, in case you've missed it: the food pantry right across the street from this development (disclosure: I am an employee of the organization that runs the Community Corner Food Pantry), Murtis Taylor (95th and Detroit), El Barrio on 52nd and Detroit, and a couple more that I'm forgetting at the moment. It's also along a very reliable RTA bus line which is also a big incentive ( But yes, I agree that RTA should be expanding in other places, but most people don't have faith in RTA and especially those receiving treatment care about the here and now). IF a neighborhood is planned with enough density, facilities and housing for lower income and/or those with personal and social crises can co-exist with an urban professional tax base that you're describing; see Ohio City with Stella Maris, St. Malachi's, Providence House, the West Side Catholic Center, St. Herman's house of hospitality, etc.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Thanks JetDog for your responses. I am extremely pleased to hear that you encourage outside developers to utilize the GTFS files. I've noticed that you're (RTA) are updating the GTFS files (thank you again!) and fixed one error that I noticed in a more recent issue. A couple questions: I assume that (DNU) in the stops file means 'Do Not use'? Is this correct? Also, Who should I contact for other GTFS questions in the future?

[quote author=Sherman Cahal link=topic=16011.msg800873#msg800873 date=1461941401 -- On a somewhat related note, is there a site or a place where I can find: 1. Street paving listings (Cincinnati had listings for the following year - it would be nice to see what is improved). 2. A place to report potholes and areas for street sweeping. Regarding #1, it's not publicly available but Brian Cummins had released lists of these last year. Tweet and him and ask. Regarding #2, call the mayors action line. (don't know the number, alas, it's at city Hall)... I wish they would actually implement that 311 system that they piloted years ago...

The Storefront Index
I should chime in and say the base map (the black and white map tiles) in the background is from data from OpenStreetMap, an open crowd-source geographic data with minimal restrictions. Its licensing and nature is like the wikipedia version of google maps. ;) (You can thank me and others for ensuring downtown Cleveland is up to date :D) This overall idea is great but from looking it at briefly, I wonder about the results' accuracy: Cleveland along with many other cities' downtown cores (defined by the circle on the map) are half under water... I didn't see if they took that into account..

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
You can thank the Sables! They own a couple units in the county, owe back taxes on both of them :whip: just do a search on Harry Sable OR Corby Sable on the auditor's website. EDIT: They haven't even paid taxes on that property in 10 years, why the hell didn't the county issue a tax lien on this and take it up for auction! (There's also SABLE REALTY, INC. which owns dozen properties in back taxes and I believe is unrelated to them).

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
That's because Mentor is almost completely built out; there's little or no more undeveloped land there. The only land that I see left for residential development is the area by 615/Center Street, south of SR 84. There's also the wetlands to the North which I believe are protected.... The 2nd ring suburbs are running out of land: Brunswick is completely built up and out - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunswick,_Ohio - their 2000 of 33,000 has only grown by 1500 or so in the past 15 years; Westlake (to my suprise, I feel that they have a bit more developed land still left), 2000 population of 31,000 has grown only 1500 or so. It's only "built out" because Mentor doesn't want to build upward. If there's still demand to locate in Mentor, then they should allow denser development. Oh, agreed, it's only built up in their sense and practice of building usage and density ;)

Lakewood: Development and News
skorasaurus replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot to derail; but IME, it takes anywhere from 30-50 minutes from public square-ish to downtown Lakewood via the 26. It's usually quicker to walk the couple blocks to Clifton and take the 55.

Cleveland: What Cleveland Neighborhood or Suburb do you live in?
BTW, I implemented this tool a couple months ago for people to define their neighborhood's boundaries by drawing it on a map :) http://skorasaur.us/nh/ It has a little over 100 results so far, evenly split between Akron and Cleveland. :) I encourage you to use so you can help define whether it's West Park, Kamm's Corner, or both; ;) and if you do, results from neighborhoods that you live or work in are preferred :)

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Yes, I had taken the 26 westbound (one of the extended buses, forget the name of this model) about 45 minutes ago and specifically recall seeing the meeting schedule on the overhead advertising, placed near the front of the bus.
