  1. It's a straight shot west on Detroit Avenue. A 5-minute walk in a pedestrian-friendly setting. Granted it's at the outer edge of the 5-minute walking range of a station hinterland. But it's such a big parcel in a neighborhood that I had much higher hopes for it than this. Even a retailer/light industry/warehousing site would be preferable to the city kennel. Are there other city kennels or is this it? If so, how is this centrally located? KJP, I'm a little surprised that you didn't know about this earlier ;) This site has been floated as the next kennel for a couple years.... The current Kennel is adjacent to Clark Fields, on West 7th - http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/untitled-map_76353 straphangar, at work atm, but iirc, it is a city site and was remediated.
  2. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.4880039,-81.6484271,3a,67.6y,183.73h,82.73t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sNGCWYniF02SNfdOuYMTmJA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 A wrecking ball/Bobcat was placed next to these abutting buildings at 6002 Woodland Was partially torched in December from an arson; roof is now caved in. Shame it's one of the last buildings on Woodland that's original and has no setback (I only know of maybe 3-4 others on woodland from 22nd to 79th that are original with no setback....) but it's been empty since I've started working across the street 3 years ago and I imagine the market for this building and area is probably the weakest in cleveland... UPDATE (March 20th): Demolition Completed. Only 6002 was demolished, the Adjacent building 5912 is still there, barely hanging on. This property (5912) is owned by Burton, Bell, Carter Development, the CDC in the area (although they've focused more south of Woodland in the past..).

Some quick thoughts while I'm at work: Even worse is its effects are compounded on the poor (Homes built before 1978 have the possibility of lead paint, IIRC) who have limited choices while renting. It's another disadvantage for homes in the city and inner-ring suburbs when people are looking to buy. Unfortunately, it hasn't been addressed for numerous reasons notably systemic racism and the sad reality that its effects are not extremely visible to the general public unless you're diagnosed. Additionally, once you tell a family that their child is poisoned with lead, it's another burden on them.
  4. I rent on the east side of Lakewood (about 5 months now) and I'm frankly a little surprised why East Lakewood gets bad raps... The cops have only been called once (not by me) on my street since I've been here.. Granted, the housing stock is generally more rundown from the outside on some streets on the eastern end, but it really varies street by street. One aspect of life that western Lakewood has, relative over the east is that there's far few empty storefronts on the west side...
  5. New Standard for first time offense; until last year, penalty was 50... 2nd offense is now year long ban (previously 100).
  6. Status as of about 5:15pm tonight As of 5 minutes ago
  7. The Playhouse square building (if that's what it's called? It was the name on the front of the building), South side of Euclid, between 17th and 18th, is being demoed as I write
  8. Bryant Park in NYC creates a "winter wonderland" and it's very effective. However I'm concerned that Public Square won't have enough programming or retail options to create critical mass. BINGO, it's the same (not the only) reason why the malls hasn't been as successful as it could have been (and could be) since their renovations.
  9. Nope, there's also Clark and West 25th, but I doubt there's any others besides these three (excluding downtown)
  10. It's one of the few, or perhaps the only, intersection on the east side (let's say, East of 22nd) that has its curbside original buildings all still intact at all 4 corners. (in this case it's 5 because the intersection is 55th, Broadway, and a residential Street, minkon, I think)
  11. My guess is that some of them were a part of the general Appalachian migration that came here but mostly settled in what's now the stockyards and Denison, Clark/Fulton areas. Of course, I should talk to some of them and find out...
  12. Not yet....I was told there are technical issues with the site. OK thnx. btw the CPC twitter account is worthless and never maintained. That's a bad look. County planning is a lot more on the ball... They even have the @countyplanning as their handle!
  13. There's a lot of NIMBYs and to put it crudely, more 'I support the NRA' door stickers and confederate flags in duck Island than you'd think (more than one or zero).
  14. All seriousness, no, there's not a map of that at the moment, but I could help you with the tech. The biggest hurdle would be finding the address of the perp at time of the crime. People's addresses and living situations are generally more transient than you'd expect, particularly the poor and recently incarcerated.

  16. Am I Missing something, or no one else has mentioned Phase 3 yet? http://flatseast.com/phase3/ I rode my bicycle through Phase II last Thursday in and took plenty of pictures using a relatively new service called mapillary (crowd-sourced street view); Click and begin a journey. http://www.mapillary.com/map/im/ro5ym1VXXCRlimYSPbogwg/photo the camera work may not be as good as google's, but it's up to date. :)
  17. Yes. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/brd/detailDR.php?ID=1705&CASE=NW%202014-028 See: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2597.msg745280.html#msg745280 KJP, in your message (that I linked above), you mentioned it was the reputed mobster; I presume the discrepancy in spelling (colombo in the Zoning docket, and Columbo in your article - http://www.americanmafia.com/Feature_Articles_16.html ) is just an error? PS, mods may want to merge this topic with http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2597.0.html
  18. Not sure where else to put it, fire at 750 Prospect Avenue, the Finance Building, where City Tap is located. https://twitter.com/tbrandyberry/status/630146472009441280/photo/1
  19. I would actually like to see a downtown car detail shop to serve both residents and office workers. A ground floor of a parking ramp is an ideal location for something like this. It may be my imagination but I thought it exists on 12th and Hamilton (https://www.google.com/maps/@41.506066,-81.688172,3a,75y,334.22h,84.53t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqGZIC6eUXX61321VuewuiA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1) (google street view doesn't show it, although imagery is from '11). There's also this one on 1900 Hamilton Ave, a bit outside downtown for some - https://www.google.com/maps/@41.508954,-81.682301,3a,75y,131.93h,79.5t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVHGqud8mfiyKZlMulw2klQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1
  20. They're nearly wrapped up with renovating a parking garage on Rockwell, between 6th and 9th. Drury bought it a 18-24 months ago.
  21. This thread reminded me that Jones New York (women's clothing retailer) posted store closing signs a week or 2 ago. They're still open as of now, selling everything.
  22. Wow. I had heard of as a teenager of the opulence of East Cleveland and such magnificent houses but thought all of them that fallen into disrepair and/or demolished. Glad to be proven wrong although I was bummed to learn that the Rockefeller development is less than 100 homes. Some more information that I'm digging up on them: http://clevelandmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=E73ABD6180B44874871A91F6BA5C249C&nm=Article+Archives&type=Publishing&mod=Publications%3A%3AArticle&mid=1578600D80804596A222593669321019&tier=4&id=5F981F3379934A0CA52CB8AB760C034E 81 http://www.fhho.org/history.asp I'm surprised to some nearby streets have ranches built in the 50s (Cleviden, Henley, Newbury).
  23. Only a portion of the buses are using real-time transit data as noted. Open Cleveland has been in contact, spoken with GCRTA employees, and advocated for the release of open, real-time transit data. As TPH2 stated, their reluctance to release the data is in part because they need to resurvey the locations of the stops for accuracy (amongst other reasons). I've been told by them that they're aiming for a date of October for the release of it but I wouldn't be surprised if it's pushed back because the staff doing the surveying have a lot of other responsibilities and it's not a top one. In other words, they're likely understaffed. (Note, I'm speaking on behalf of myself, and not on behalf of Open Cleveland although I am the co-captain (co-leader) of Open Cleveland). (TPH2, we might know each other in real life :)
  24. Thanks for the heads up. I'm curious about this He has owned the adjacent parcels for at least 10 years. Wonder what he's interested in. One of the adjacent parcels that he owns had a small convenient store in it which closed shortly after the owner was (fatally?) shot in a robbery in 2001/2003. 3217 was also the location of 'Sam's showbar' which I was a strip club.
  25. Sort of OT, doesn't Jacobs or another big player already own a lot of that land on the Scranton Peninsula?
