CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
Hey, MGD, I might not respond a lot but I am reading! ;) I walked around the WHD for a few hours on Monday and was very impressed. I stopped in Constantino's for a snack and ended up having a long conversation about downtown development with the woman working behind the counter. Walking, rather than driving, around downtown really makes a difference for me - it seems much more full.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Funny, I was just looking around for news on this project yesterday! I'm moving to Cleveland this summer and definitely want to rent for a year, but am considering buying a place soon after that, and Detroit-Shoreway is toward the top of my list. It would still be quite affordable now, but it seems like so many great things are going on over there (waterfront, Battery Park, EcoCity, anything I'm missing?). How exciting. 330 residential units seems to be all the rage with these new developments, huh?

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
This is a cool site that maps census data for the country: http://www.socialexplorer.com/maps/home.asp You can zoom in pretty far to get state, region, or city information.

columbus affirms smoke ban
I currently live in brooklyn, ny and I must say I LOVE the smoking ban. I've always been a 'social smoker' and never really realized how much public smoking bothered me until it went away. I'm a fan of individuals' rights to do whatever they want to their own bodies, but you can't get around the fact that smoking doesn't only effect the person who's doing it. I have no right to complain when I'm sitting next to someone who's eating lots of mercury-filled swordfish or chewing tobacco b/c it doesn't personally effect me. Plus, it's just SO nice to be able to go out to a bar or club and not have to wash your clothes afterward. Clearly NY is different than Columbus (or Cincinnati or Cleveland, for that matter), but I have seen NO decrease in bar patronage since the ban. I agree that it's a sign of a progressive city. So, that's my two cents.

Ohio Cities' Downtown Population
Nice map MGD! So, anyone have the goods necessary to figure out the population of that area? Keep in mind, it may increase by 2 come August. ;)
