  1. you can see the lights on at night. looks like a lot of the apts are almost done
  2. i agree to an extent (Re: skywalk, lack of retail, tower design), but something that shouldn't be pie-in-the-sky urbanism is the center city of any major city should have basic building standards that include multi-story buildings that are not significantly set back from the street. Downtown, a 50,000 square foot building should not be on a 1.2 acre lot
  3. lol in the first meeting, i just wanted someone to ask, 'you claim your guiding design principle is context of place, but a two storey building hasn't been built downtown in 100 years, this is this shortest building in a 10 block radius, every building on the square is built to the sidewalk and every building except the church is at least six floors. how does this meet you stated design standards?'
  4. yeah, i noticed that too. it looks like SHW didn't budge on a single thing that the committee asked them to reconsider
  5. I don't remember them saying that. it should have been a major point when trying to get the garage approved
  6. I hope all the stuff gets built out, but until it does, they are only removing 2/5 of the parking lots
  7. the pavilion is so short you won't even be able to see it from the roadway until you are west of Ontario. it has a lower profile than the second floor awnings on the hotel. so stupid. it's obviously their right to build the tower on west 3rd, but dont buy into their line that they did it out of respect for TT
  8. well, that's as complete as the square is going to get. set back and 40 feet tall.

I didn't endorse anyone. just stating what the pros and cons described in the article that you left right here

that article makes the argument that a candidate like bibb is high risk-high reward. so, for a position of mayor, is likely stability more or less valuable than a potentially inspired leader who is just as likely to be very incompetent

I would think bibb would be over represented in a social media centric poll
  12. I still think one of the biggest areas of opportunity is the west Blvd station. that whole section on the north side of Detroit from west Blvd to w110th

the county has a similar survey going for their 240 million dollars.

Went to VT, NH, ME last week. Here's one of me at Jordan Pond in Acadia
  15. also, funneling all the westbound traffic from 90 to lakewood onto the city street probably should have a traffic study
  16. yeah, seems like a vanity project to me. when pressed on design principles on public square and the skywalk over w3, the team didn't really have any good answers other than to say its what SHW wanted to do.
  17. you think the pavilion has a similar scale to the rest of the buildings ob PS?
  18. incorporate the welcome center into the tower pedestal and leave jacobs lot as future headquarters expansion. or keep the pavilion on public square, build it up to the street and build it to be at least 5-6 stories. They can talk about front porches and welcome mats all they want, but the pavilion does not at all address the context of the buildings on public square. The only answer they really had towards making the site publicly accessible was that there would be glass walls.
  19. @KJP do you have any sense if shw is being sincere about developing w6 and at clair?
  20. it's not a campus, its an office building with an annex
  21. theres 12 buildings on public square. they are all at least six stories tall and are built out to the sidewalk. this is a 2 floor corporate auditorium with a major set back from the street and its main access point is a tube that crosses w3rd. there should be major pushback against the pavilion, imo. I can live with the other distasteful things about this plan. but look out for a) very shallow retail space in the garage that shw has no intention of ever leasing and b) those new surface lots to be there for a couple decades. the tower should look nice and itll be neat seeing them build a large skyscraper (I missed out on society and sohio)
  22. They show the context as if the context of public square is a 2 story buildings set back from the street
  23. weve talked about it all before, but not excited about a bridge over w3 or about the center of excellence plan. sullies the entire project imo
