    I'm saying that if your 35 mile route was a streetcar, instead of a monorail, you could expect 25 deaths every 1.5 million round trips. i don't have any idea what the fatality/injury risk is on a monorail. I'd imagine there isn't much risk at all

    You have to recognize there is a risk of something bad happening whenever you leave your house and, as an adult, you weigh these risks against probabilities of a negative result and decide how much investment you would like to make in order to keep yourself 100% safe. Since all of the arguments are made with no real citation, i decided to read a safety statistics report about Fixed Rail Transit systems. There were 120 deaths nationwide due to heavy rail trains in 2013. There were zero fatalities with streetcars in 2013. 80% of all fatalities dealing with fixed rail systems comes from trespass and suicide. A standardized analysis from a five year sample shows a streetcar system will yield 25 deaths per 100 million service miles (or 3 million spans of your proposed rail) and 2,980 injuries/100 million miles. 20 of these fatalities (per 100 M service miles) will be from collision.   9. i think that the clark-fulton neighborhood will steadily be able to support development and turn clark into a madison-esque street in the next couple decades. Theres a lot of empty lots and mechanic garages that could eventually be built on to create more of a street presence

  11. so the public square piece seems like it'll be one or two stories. if its two floors with an auditorium/conference rooms/orientation space then its very possible there'll be a 20 foot lobby facing w3 with a second floor skywalk over the street and blank walls around the other three sides. anything would be better than that. just a big Sherwin Williams plaza with no building is better. but I don't mean to complain too much because we should be kissing the feet of the company who decided we are a good enough town to print money in
  12. This isnt charity, sw isnt losing any money by staying in cleveland. If the city has leverage to push back on street-level design, then it should.

    Yeah, its probably because they are expensive, conspicuous, almost necessarily forced to be a single dedicated line and there are probably fewer monorail vendors to work with. Columbus does not have the congestion necessary for an elevated line to be the best option.

    where does your 1.4 billion dollars number come from? I don't think you are getting 35 miles of rail for anything near that price

I had a streetcar loop idea that i'm sure has been discussed before. 1) Extend the Red Line eastward 1.25 miles to Noble Road and develop this hunk of land 2) a large streetcar loop would start on w6 and go east down St. Clair, turn right down woodworth/noble, intersect with the new redline terminus, turn right down euclid, pass windermere, turn right down superior, intersect with the superior redline station, go west down superior through public square and turn down w6 to connect the loop. This could be a good way to connect the near east side to the redline, provide the three major norther e/w avenues (St. Clair, Superior, Euclid) with a major transit line and spur development down St. Clair - especially if they are looking to pour a ton of money into the lakefront park. Plus, get an extra mile of redline that would more completely serve east cleveland
  19. My comment on the survey: You don't need to build more land with dredging . The real focus of this should be to hug the freeway as close to the train tracks as possible from e55 through MLK and get rid of the huge exit ramps. This will create a substantial land mass north of I-90 and make the fishing/recreation more peaceful. Then use the freed up gordon park space for better use than baseball fields. Finally, I think the area north of St Clair (From E72nd to MLK) should also be turned into park-space. This would make the overall lakefront park more accessible to hough and glenville residents and really incorporate Rockefeller park as a part of the overall project. Recreation buildings like indoor basketball, indoor tracks, indoor pools and ice rinks could be built in this section to create a true recreational district for the east side.
  20. if they're going to make a replica of the bok building, that means we're also getting 250 foot stretch of superior with that parking garage. it looks like they designed the retail space to fulfil design requirements and not to actually create usable space.

  22. To be clear, I think it's fine that they build whatever office suits their business needs. Its disappointing that it isnt on the square, but that's their decision. There is a land use aspect tho. The city and state should not be providing tax cuts and public subsidies to a project that has a 2 floor, single-use, vanity project on public square. Their bullsh*t company heritage museum can be the ground-floor tenet of their office building if they want it.
  23. I dont know anything about development, but Is this sherwin William's wont pay for a uniquely designed building so they are paying less for a replica and the bok center wouldn't fit on the Jacob's lot so they moved it to w3rd?
