Kent / Kent State University: Development and News
Click on the link to see renderings. I think This is a good plan for two reasons: 1) The The driving entrance will no longer be at a busy intersection where it is annoying to cross the street while walking down summit. 2) The new parking lot will become a perfect spot if the need for a new building ever arises. not to mention, it is a great improvement from the wasteland of evergreens and parking booths which are there now. Kent State Begins Student Green Project http://www.kent.edu/news/newsdetail.cfm?newsitem=7E320F8F-9836-B325-ACC1CB302FAE4329 Fulfilling the commitment Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton made to students, the university today began initial construction activities on the Student Green project in the Kent Student Center area, located at the heart of the campus. The new Student Green will extend from the recently renovated Risman Plaza to the lawn area south, creating a contiguous green space from the current student center plaza to Summit Street. “This is the second phase of a project to create an attractive entrance to campus for our university family, university guests and prospective students considering enrollment at Kent State,” said Gregg Floyd, Kent State’s senior vice president for finance and administration. “It also fulfills a promise to our students from President Lefton to provide attractive outdoor space dedicated to casual student use, as well as programmed student activities. Response to the Risman Plaza renovations has been very favorable, and the energized atmosphere produced by the heavy student use is great for the campus.”

Cleveland International Film Festival: 2012 event sets attendance record; 'Under African Skies,' 'Beauty is Embarrassing' take top awards Published: Sunday, April 01, 2012, 10:50 PM By Clint O'Connor, The Plain Dealer http://www.cleveland.com/moviebuff/index.ssf/2012/04/cleveland_international_film_f_35.html As with most things in life, the 36th Cleveland International Film Festival came down to the art of love. The 11-day event, which set new attendance records and wrapped Sunday night with Paul Williams serenading the crowd at Tower City Center, stared down a quintessential technical glitch: "The Art of Love," a French romance from festival favorite Emmanuel Mouret, arrived in Cleveland without -- Mon Dieu! -- subtitles. This was fine. If you spoke French. Which the few folks who remained in the theater on opening weekend did (along with some non-French speaking stalwarts who apparently understood the universal language of cinema). In the meantime, festival staffers called hundreds of ticket holders to warn them not to come, at least until a new copy of the movie arrived in time for closing weekend. "I'm not religious," said the festival's executive director Marcie Goodman, who introduced "The Art of Love's" Sunday screening. "But it was the first time I had ever asked an audience to pray with me that the film would play with subtitles." It did. More than 85,000 people, the most ever, attended this year's festival at Tower City Cinemas, and they saw more than 320 features and shorts, including some sterling documentaries. Australian director Genevieve Bailey spent five years interviewing 11-year-olds in 15 countries for some joyful commentary and brought her film, "I am Eleven," here for its international premiere.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
really, the only things i want to see are building at the old skate park, building where the parking is at the goodtime III, the connector between the science center and rock hall and maybe the bridge. I want the harbor to have as much as possible, i don't really care much about the space north of the stadium.

I think they are taking out e. erie street for it. I assume they will demo a couple houses between erie and the fashion museum (where the Esplanade ends now)

This article tries to walk the line between preservation and demolition to help out a city. Kent’s downtown makeover seeks to blend present with past By Paula Schleis Beacon Journal staff writer http://www.ohio.com/news/local/kent-s-downtown-makeover-seeks-to-blend-present-with-past-1.272927 KENT: More than a dozen old buildings have fallen. Others have a date with the wrecking ball. In their place, entire new downtown blocks are rising from the dust. In a way, the city hopes nobody notices. Kent doesn’t want to lose its historic ambience as it goes through a $100 million makeover. “I’ve been to downtowns where it looks like an entire block was just dropped in,” Economic Development Director Dan Smith said. So project leaders repeatedly have chanted the mantra, “The best of the old with the best of the new,” to show their focus on preserving the past in the face of wholesale change. Their choice is neither easy nor cheap.

Why are young people driving less?
New School. I got my license last summer on my 21st birthday. It had nothing to do with the internet and everything to do with being lazy.

so, they need 30-40,000 per month from here on out to reach their target. That seems reasonable. I went last week and it was too crowded for me to even critique it. They had to hold up the line and let people in as others left, for capacity reasons. I'll wait till it slows up a bit to give it an honest try. But they acknowledge their cloudy shark tank by giving everyone 10% of per ticket. the lady at the ticket counter said the firm that designed it is flying in from new Zealand to fix it.

What is the difference between a good chain and a bad chain? I agree that chipotle and five guys=good and tilted kilt= bad, but why is that? is it just because we like a good burrito and don't like a sleezy sports bar?

as far as im concerned, gilbert only has his hands bloodied from one building. blaming him for the may company building and stanley block is misdirected anger. Also, he is responsible for the restoration and repurposing of the higbee building, which is worth something...

The ceremony is an economic boost and having the casino open, in my eyes, would have enhanced it http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/07/cleveland_pledges_500000_for_2.html "The Rock Hall estimates that the 2009 ceremony brought $13 million into the local economy."
