  1. I think I read that gilbert said he wanted a pedestrian bridge to the Q. so if he had his way, it would be one of those immediately adjacent lots. He also said he wanted the new convention center to be between the location for the casino that he wants and tower city. For whatever that is worth.

M2S will yell at you for saying that
  3. OSU doesn't play the big east because The Big East stinks.

Forgive me, I am not very well versed in the world cup. Does only one city get the bid, or does it work like the NCAA basketball tournament where multiple cities are included in the first few rounds? Also, what other countries are in the running for 2018 and 2022?
  5. If it could be done again, where would you guys have wanted the Browns stadium to have been built? I think that it should have been clustered with the Q and the Jake personally.
  6. From the 10/15/09 Daily Kent Stater A breakdown of the new downtown Construction planned to begin in 2010 By: Brittany Moseley [...] With the success of Acorn Alley, Dan Smith, Kent's economic development director, and city engineer Jim Bowling now have time to focus on the next stage of downtown development. The development will include a hotel conference center, PARTA's multi-modal facility, a new municipal courthouse and corporate offices. The project got a push Sept. 16 at Kent State's Board of Trustees meeting when President Lester Lefton pledged to spend up to $3 million toward the hotel conference center, making the university a partner in it. [...] it is on KentNewsNet.com I'm not sure if I posted this in the correct format, but it looks like KSU and The City of Kent are trying to work together to make downtown Kent more accessible and fun. Too bad most of this stuff probably won't be done until after I graduate.

I am 19, but I was speaking to National Perception. That is what I understood the thread to be about. There is no doubt that Cleveland fans are amongst the best in the nation, but I feel that we get spat on by the national media. That was the point I was trying to make, but obviously did a poor job of.

That is tight. it was featured on the four letter station

Because the browns have had two winning seasons since their inception and haven't won a championship since sixty-four Tribe ended up in the cellar or the Central Division and haven't won a championship since '48 Cave have been terrible, with terrible owners until 2003 (save the early '70's and early 90's) and we have yet to win it. Three major sports is good for a medium sized city, but it is expected if you are a major population area, as the Greater Cleveland Area undoubtedly is.

Do you know what would change Cleveland's perception? LeBron staying and creating a dynasty. Also, if the casino passes, I'm sure it would be less difficult to host large sporting events such as all-star games (baseball and basketball) or college bowl games and NCAA tournaments. Maybe not the college stuff, but I do feel that being a laughing stock within the sporting community is damaging in some way to our perception. It acts as a measurable sign of the city's failure.
  11. Maybe not vacations, but day trips. Also, it may on the checklist for vacation destinations. It may not be a focal point in the vacation plans, but it probably would encourage.
  12. A few years ago. I want to say seven or eight, they did major work to the clock tower to take off the tarnish. That is why it looks so new. No pictures of the new wal-mart? what a travesty.
  13. I hate Honolulu. Who would want to be in a city where it is 80 degrees every day with beautiful scenery.

It is a fallacy to say that a person who does not live in a city cannot speak intelligently to the city's situation.
  15. When I go to niagra falls to gamble, I never eat at the casino. I enjoy walking around and getting out of the place for a few hours. I assume most people are like me. Who wouldn't want to see what the city has to offer while they are there? A person who wouldn't be downtown unless there was a casino, that's who.
  16. Gambling should be legal. I am under the impression that laws are created to stop people from infringing on other peoples rights. How does a ban on gambling protect other people? I cast my absentee ballot today. One vote FOR issue 3 is in.
  17. KJP went to kenston? I went to the only school that matters in Geauga county, Chardon.
  18. It is kind of funny that a banner ad on this site is an issue three advertisement.
  19. The casinos may not help Dayton necessarily (even though they will get millions in tax revenue), but it won't hurt it. Also, people go out of state to gamble now instead of going to the zoo (or whatever else people do), so a significant amount of money would be spent in four major population areas in ohio instead of the downs in PA. This is not an all or nothing situation. It is possible for something to be a contributing factor of progress without being a focal point. If it helps these cities or the states in any way, it is good. In fact, I would argue that as long as gambling doesn't have a negative effect on the economy, gambling would be acceptable. Especially since it is privately funded. This isn't even mentioning the fact that new development makes the city-scape more aesthetically pleasing and opens opportunities for further development. I think gambling in ohio will help the economy, at best, and have no effect at worst. So, I say, give it a chance.
  20. Dude Ranch near the mouth the Black River..................................................................................*rim shot*
  21. I don't understand why people care if Gilbert stands to make money. If it is a win for the investors and a win for the city/state, whats the problem? It only makes Gilbert want to invest more money into the city if he gets returns.
