Peak Oil
Interesting. I didn't watch it because I saw a commercial for it that said "brought to you by Chevy". I rolled my eyes because I thought it would be biased. I shouldn't have been so pessimistic

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Cleveland's 100th murder was 8 streets from my parents house where I grew up. According to the PD I guess we should be paralyzed with fear. Trying to con drug dealers is probably one of the quickest way to get yourself killed. I'm sorry the guy died and maybe its harsh, but what did he expect to happen if the sellers noticed the money was fake. I wonder how many murders have nothing to do with drugs? What would the murder rate be of normal law abiding citizens who were killed by random violence not drug related in Cleveland. I'm guessing that number is pretty low

Cleveland taxi cab stuff
I hate on new years when you are a victim of distance discrimination. I was going from one area of downtown to home on E4. I was told no so that the drivers could get someone heading to the suburbs for more money.

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
^ When I took an urban studies class at CSU the prof said Warner Bros were from Youngstown and built several buildings in downtown Cleveland to use for movies. I think that Nortons Furniture is one of them.

What's your avatar?
I'll have to find a 8x10 of that for my dad. As long as I can remember, he always talks about that play. If you search for Cleveland Browns on youtube there is a tribute video that shows the play. I watched a bunch of them to get me riled up for the season.

Philadelphia Suggestions Solicited
I went to Philly a few years ago for 4 days as a vacation. Try this site http://www.gophila.com/ Philly seems to have a lot of museums. I recommend the Mutter museum. They have a lot of medical oddities and weird things if you are into that sort of thing. My fiancee was grossed out but I liked it. At night, South street has a lot of bars and cheese steak places and seems to be a big draw.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
That is 2 streets from where I grew up. I waited at the bus stop across the street to take the 70 into lakewood to go to high school. Who among us does not slip out every once and a while to have a drink in a bus shelter in the afternoon?

Cleveland and Grafitti
I wonder who "HEK" is. This person does a lot on the west side and downtown. One of the buildings on Euclid by public square has a tag that says "Oh my god, its HEK".

Here come Cleveland's "trolleys"
From the video it seemed as if the guy just said out of no where, "I am going to cut you". I think its harsh to judge the other passengers at all. When some psycho just starts randomly stabbing someone, it is a little hard to process in that short amount of time. That video was very clear. I am sure some body knows that guy and hopefully will call the police. Oh yeah, it is good to hear the victim was released.

Is something EXCITING going on in your neighborhood?
I remember when the Rini Rego by my house left. After a few vacant months a Save-a-Lot moved in (Cleveland on Puritas road). It is a bad sign for your neighborhood when a serviceable grocery store leaves to be replaced by a place where you may or may not get maggots in your food and you have to pay for bags to carry groceries. The worst part about it is that a church across the street built some nursing home apartments so the residents could cross the street to grocery shop. The apartments opened at the exact same time rini rego left. Needless to say the Church was quite angry.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Congrats on getting Sam Adams. I am glad the Browns picked up a pro-bowl offensive line man. We will need it for the Pit and Cincy d-line.

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
My favorite death trap non-side walk road is Mayfield Rd at SOM center. People have to walk on the grass. There is also a bus stop under I-271 that requires people to cross a highway enterance and exit on both sides to get to it. No one should have to go anywhere and walk in the mud down a busy main street. That is a nice highway mess. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Cleveland+OH&ll=41.521527,-81.442251&spn=0.013045,0.045018

NFL: General News & Discussion
Jerome Bettis being from Detroit and retiring. Bill cowher being there so long and never winning the big one... There was no story for Seattle. That is why all you heard about leading up to the game was that Jerome Bettis was returning home

NFL: General News & Discussion
X is right the whole playoff officiating was bad. Even though I don't Like the steelers, they got the royal screw during the colts game. The cynic in me thinks that the Tony Dungy/Peyton story was the NFL's first choice. The refs did not help the colts enough.... So, lets move on the the Bus/Cowher story instead. But, how can you prove it?

NFL: General News & Discussion
Poor Officiating. The seahawks got a break when that pass was ruled incomplete instead of a fumble. Pittsburg recieved all the other breaks. 3 penalties on pitt. No holding calls. Every hawk penalty was at the most crucial time and was touchy or completely a joke. Matt H. did not get the memo that you can not tackle below the waist anymore. 15 yards. I believe this will go down as the most questionable super bowl ever. The announcers usually never question the officials, but they were scratching their heads on some of these calls. If the refs got out of the way, this could have been a really close exciting game.

East or West Side of Cleveland
You make a good point. From downtown, if you take the shoreway, Detroit bridge, or Lorain bridge, you get to nice neighborhoods. While driving down cedar or Carnegie east of midtown, I have seen Houses with boarded windows and empty lots. I am not trying to bash the east side though. Just sharing my impressions. I can appreciate that, however, this is the point I'm trying to make. You're not spending anytime in the area, therefore, your "view" still implies that that those areas are "bad". I understand where you are coming from. It is true that I know the west side nieghborhoods well, while I have mainly passed by East side ones. I agree that it probably does skew perceptions. Oh well, All my west side friends have accused me of selling out because E4 is "technically" the East side :-D

I would be the same for me. Instead of taking Carnegie/Cedar from downtown, I could take cedar from heights. It would be a shorter distance. I kind of feel like a sell out. LOL. I made it 24 years as a Cleveland resident. We haven't made a final decision yet. Don't forget, me and my fiancee are engineers. We will over analyze every aspect before a decision is made.

In terms of location, Something around 271 + 90 would be close to both our jobs. But, we don't really like any of the suburbs east of 271. They are not walkable at all. Thats why we were looking at heights.

Eastlake and Mayfield Hts. I wished we worked downtown. Then we could buy a condo.

It is private. The fence separates ours from the neighbor's patio. Unfortunately I will probably be moving in the near future. My fiancee had a contract position on the west side while I work on the East side. We decided to get something downtown that was really nice to celebrate both of us graduating, to party, and to make our work commutes easier. [by the way, reverse commuting is nice becuase every one is literally going the other way.] Now my fiancee has a full time job on the east side so we are trying to find an East Side suburb that we like (Leaning towards Cleveland Heights). We want to buy a house and build equity rather than pay a mortgage size rent payment and not own anything. But we have really liked living downtown, There is so much to do within a 5 minute walk.

East or West Side of Cleveland
When is the last time you've spent any real time in any of the east side neighborhoods to make that statement? Sterling payne has some unique homes and business and is really cool. Hough has some wonderful and stately homes, upper prospect has great homes. This is how rumors that the city is bad are started or perpetuated. not cool! Im am saying that the near west side has lakewood, Ohio city, Edgewater, etc... I can't think of many areas that would be considerd dangerous. I think some of the near east side neighborhoods are starting to shape up like you mentioned, but I still think there are more areas than the west side that the average person would consider dangerous or undesirable. Just my opinion take it for what its worth. I would never say that any whole city is bad just beacause of certain neighborhoods. Nor would I say the east side of cleveland is dangerous because one section might be considerd bad.
