  1. While I still highly prefer the St. Claire site over the Mall C site, I'll be okay with the MM being built on the Mall C site. One thing I will be okay with is if this facility is significantly scaled back. This is supposed to be a world class facility.
  2. Exactly! If public hall is out of the question now (i sure as hell hope there will be renovations later on... it's an awesome building) I don't see why it's such a big deal to pay the $24 million. I'm growing frustrated with how this is all being handled. I just want this project to happen.
  3. great news! I can't wait to see the pics.
  4. Wait, is it proposed to go ON Mall C or just NORTH of Mall C (over the train tracks)? I like the idea of building it north of Mall C, but I'm not a fan of building in on Mall C. But i guess beggars can't be choosers...
  5. Your team killed my team last week! (Boardman High) But it was kind of expected. St. Ignatius is inhumanly good at all things related to football and soccer lol.
  6. sorry, I searched for the Breuer Tower thread and saw nothing in that. I didn't know there was a thread on the Cuyahoga County headquarters relocation. Carry on.
  7. Sense how? Financially?? Patronage? Return on investment? It's a working river which is part of the issue. I know which is why we shouldn't jump on top of this idea until the Flats East Bank and projects in the West Bank are proven to be successful.
  8. I figured they could just renovate it to match their needs. But I guess since they didn't want to do that last time, they probably wouldn't do it this time either. Of course, there's always the option of tearing down the Breuer Tower and building the headquarters from scratch but that would probably be unpopular. Oh well.
  9. A little off-topic, but is it possible that the county could move it's headquarters to the Breuer Building and Rotunda (now that it is in the hands of the county again) and leave it's old land at the mall open for development for the MM? Wouldn't that give the developers the amount of land they wish for and move the county headquarters to somewhere with more room (which I'm assuming will be needed because of Issue 6 passing)? Sounds, to me, like that would kill two birds with one stone.
  10. If the Flats East Bank project is a success, and progress keeps continuing in the West Bank, I would hope that some sort of bridge or gondola would be considered to connect the two regions. That only makes sense to me, but sometimes people don't do what makes sense in this area.
  11. That's too bad. That's truly a great piece of land and an idea like the rockometer and music legacy plaza could have been a great tourism attraction for Cleveland. I wish the Coast Guard could move their station somewhere else since there's so much other viable space on the lakefront, but that seems pretty darn unlikely now.
  12. I may be alone on this, but I think the Rockometer and the Music Legacy Plaza are great ideas that could help energize the NCharbor area unlike anytime before. Unfortunately it probably won't ever happen.
  13. Haha thanks I'll look into it. By the way, what's the fate of Public Auditorium now since it's now not included in the CC plans?
  14. I guess paranoia got the better of me for a minute there... sorry bout that :)
  15. Perhaps I was misinterpreting what some of the people here were implying but it looked like they were unsure if this would carry through.
  16. I'm personally quite appalled that Mall C is even being thrown around as a suggestion for the MM. This better be some sort of negotiating tactic because otherwise it's a terrible suggestion. I'm growing very disappointed in the handling of the MM plans so far. If these plans aren't carried through in enough time, NYC will have already built their proposed medical mart.
  17. So, the city has committed millions of dollars for an aquarium in the Powerhouse and it's already looking like it may not happen? That certainly is annoying.
  18. How sad :( So I guess that rendering I posted is pretty old?
  19. Any news on development of this area at all? I was browsing around clevendskyscrapers.com and came across this rendering for a new Cuyahoga County Administration Center where the Breuer Tower currently stands: This is probably an old rendering for previous plans Cuyahoga County had for it, but I figured since the County now owns it again, maybe they have new plans for it. Sorry if I'm misinformed about any plans for this building. I don't live in Cleveland, but I try my best to keep up with news in Cleveland.
  20. See we're at opposite ends of the spectrum. I like homes built before 1925-45 and a few mid century mod homes. These "modern" homes, IMHO, seriously lack the interior details you would find in homes in the 20' & 30's. I like homes with "character". Oh, don't get me wrong. I LOVE old homes too. In fact, I think i like older homes better than modern homes (theyre more timeless). I guess I just have pretty broad taste in houses. There is certainly such a thing as TOO modern though, and I think Battery Park is starting to push it. In a few years, people may be scratching their heads wondering what we were thinking when we made these houses, but at least this land is being developed into SOMETHING. And maybe we can both agree that these modern homes are better then just about any brutalist building from the 60s and 70s (Justice Center and Cleveland Trust Building... blegh!)
  21. I guess it's all a matter of taste. I personally love modern homes, but Battery Park is just a bit too modern for my tastes. I don't think it's ugly though. Just not my style. I'd love to see the inside of one of those townhouses though!
  22. I understand what you mean, McCleveland. I'd still like the Burke port over the East 55th one because it is further away from residential areas and the city wouldn't have to destroy any existing marinas and fishing docks. The move could still take place in intervals of 5 years (or however much time is needed) regardless of where the port moves. I just think the Burke site is the least intrusive of all of them. Also, I think it would be an asset to have one major port with air, water, and rail access, which is what Burke would essentially become if the port moved there.
  23. I think that the northeast part of Burke would have been a good place to relocate to. That way we wouldn't have to wait for new land to be built and and the port could start the move right away. New land could be created anywhere from the dredging. If Burke wants to build another runway north of their existing runways, that's fine. Maybe we can create new land from the dredging to make room for that (and make Burke look a little less obviously man-made). Burke may have to wait a few more years to expand but I think quickly moving the port and opening the lakefront for development ASAP is more important than a new runway. This is what I mean:
  24. seeing all these projects is really making me excited for the next few years. By the way, I haven't heard news on the pedestrian bridge at NCHarbor in a long time. Is that really expected to happen within the next 3-4 years?
  25. patience grasshopper. i believe total of grants and loans is about $54m, and the initial phase of the development is in the $250-270m range. As has been reported, they expect to have everything in order to begin by around the first of the year. yayay!! i really hope construction will start that early. And even if this get put off, the casino construction should keep me occupied. (i guess i really like the site of construction downtown)
