  1. I finally got to see this scaffold-less beauty in person yesterday. It's absolutely beautiful. The shacks inside are a bit odd, but I don't hate them.
  2. ^^^ Not a bad idea! From what I understand, AG doesn't have much interest in a downtown headquarters, but I suppose (and hope) there's still a chance.
  3. I just hope SOMETHING is done with this building. It'd be great if we could fill it up with some new offices, but of course, the hard part is finding businesses that want to move in.
  4. Pugu I think your right. At first I saw the article and when I skimmed it I thought there was already another aquarium proposal by another group. But now that I read it again it just looks like the same story. I wonder why they decided to run almost the same story again with a different title.
  5. Another developer floats a Cleveland aquarium plan By James F. McCarty,The Plain Dealer January 18, 2010, 7:28AM CLEVELAND, Ohio — Add another player to the already crowded field of developers dreaming of bringing a world-class aquarium to Cleveland. The latest entry, Great Lakes Aquarium of Cleveland Inc., wants to build a $70 million aquarium as part of a lakefront development project planned for land now occupied by the Port of Cleveland north of Cleveland Browns Stadium. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/01/another_developer_floats_a_cle.html Another proposal?? Jeez. With all this interest in building a downtown aquarium, maybe one will actually be built!
  6. I know there are some hurdles, but I think the plan is still to move the port. PS I think we all should stop talking about the beach :)
  7. I regret mentioning the beach... Jeez guys! I don't think it's the best idea in the world, but it's only temporary! At least they aren't leaving that area ugly and undeveloped until it's built on! And if this idea of an "urban beach" is successful in Cleveland, maybe they could build one on the lakefront later.
  8. Hopefully those surface lots will be built on ASAP. And, in regards to people complaining about this design for the flats, the same could definitely be said about Pinnacle Condominiums. That building definitely sticks out like a sore thumb, but I still think it's a beautiful building that strangely fits the location well. By the way, I know the Cuyahoga is a lot cleaner than in the past but is there really much interest to have a beach on the river?
  9. If you go to flatseast.com, that rendering shows that the tower's roof is not TOTALLY flat and bland. It has a little white... thing? I'm not really sure what to call that.
  10. I think this would be a great addition to the Flats East Bank project. I circled a location in an old rendering of the project that I think would be perfect for the new AG HQ: This location is just secluded enough from the rest of downtown (being sandwiched between all those train tracks) that it shouldn't be a problem for loading trucks to maneuver there compared to a more high-traffic location downtown.
  11. If they're building a beach, it'll only be temporary until the other phases are built.
  12. Most likely we're only gonna get 1 aquarium and hopefully it's the one on the lakefront.
  13. ^ I think he's visualizing that the mall stays flat except for 4 inclines that meet at a high-point in the middle. I'm really bad at explaining things but I hope that helped.
  14. ^ I think this entire project will do wonders for expanding the downtown a little.
  15. I'm surprised we've heard so little about the casino. I thought construction was supposed to start as soon as possible, which I would imagine would be after everything thaws in the spring.
  16. Thanks MayDay! I can't wait to see some renderings of phase 2.
  17. As it says in the article, maybe it's possible a Powerhouse aquarium and a lakefront aquarium to both work. Obviously the Powerhouse aquarium would be smaller, and maybe they could make it more of a local-oriented thing. Fill the Powerhouse Aquarium with all local sea-critters that reside in Erie and the Cuyahoga, and the lakefront aquarium should be the one more on par with the National Aquarium in Baltimore. But if only one can happen, I definitely support a lakefront aquarium over one in the Powerhouse.
  18. Developers float another plan for a Cleveland aquarium -- the third proposal being pitched By James F. McCarty,The Plain Dealer January 08, 2010, 6:01PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Add another player to the already crowded field of developers dreaming of bringing a world-class aquarium to Cleveland. The latest entry, Great Lakes Aquarium of Cleveland Inc., wants to build a $100 million aquarium as part of a lakefront development project planned for land now occupied by the Port of Cleveland north of Browns Stadium. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/01/developers_float_another_plan.html I personally like the idea of an aquarium at the lakefront much better than one in the Powerhouse, where it's more difficult to access for tourists and would be limited in size. I think the ideal place would be where the coast guard station is currently at (across from the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame) but that would obviously be a little more difficult to build on, so anywhere on the lakefront and close to the north coast harbor is good enough for me.
  19. thanks jsz65! It would be nice to see American Greetings moving downtown, but I guess the most important thing it to keep it in the region.
  20. This could be good news for Cleveland. There's some nice office space available (or soon to be available) in downtown Cleveland that would be great for American Greetings. The current Huntington building, Breuer Tower (unlikely), Higbee Building, maybe even some office space in the Flats East Bank project... By the way, does anyone know how many people are currently hired by American Greetings?
  21. Very good news! YAY! You know you're an urban nerd when things like this get you downright giddy!
  22. Maybe it would look better in person? But, yeah, I'm glad that's only temporary.
  23. It could be good as long as it works.... I really hope it works.
  24. I don't think so :( I think he's referring to the rendering that you see on www.flatseast.com
  25. Oh, duh. Thanks! Can't wait to see the first phase of this finished (or started for that matter). But I shouldn't get my hopes up until I see some infrastructure being built.
