The city Department of Community Development says the list of nuisance properties had grown to 212, the most in a decade. The department has added an extra hearing each month to deal with the properties. The city demolished 179 houses last year, the most in at least 15 years and nearly triple the number five years ago. The nuisance properties attract crime, are unsafe for firefighters and drag down home values in neighborhoods.
