Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I don't know if anyone else saw this, and this was through snowy healthline windows, but I'm pretty sure I saw window boards and mast climber framework going up in front of the CAC. Anyone know what's going on there?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I've noticed that Healthline busses will intentionally stall at stations if they are ahead of schedule (especially in the evening). Also, between public square and e.9th, there frequently are traffic conditions that block the bus lane. Maybe that explains some of what you experienced.

Bad play there. Shows Solich has infinite faith in Tettleton but honestly should have gone for the tie and overtime. As disappointing as it is, the goal for this year was a conference championship. Let's get it.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I expect my signage to be world-class  . Also, I'm sure the RTA folks are already aware, but what's up with the healthline during rush hour downtown? I'm a regular rider so I've noticed the busses starting to double up, then later triple up. Just yesterday I counted 5 healthline busses between public square and e. 14th at the same time, all heading east (quintupling?). Once they get bunched up, they get more concerned about hopping each other to save time, but on multiple occasions I've seen the driver miss or narrowly miss a passenger's stop (despite ringing the bell) because of the added stress of the bus hopping. Additionally, though the intentions are good, when full or redundant busses blow by the stations, passengers seem very upset, and I can relate because I've had a bus blow by me, and the bus that was supposed to be 'right behind' broke down at the prior stop, so I ended up waiting about 40 minutes total just to get on the bus. It seems like either there is a traffic or scheduling issue that is causing the bunching, or there is an effort to concentrate more busses downtown during rush hour, but the side-effects are almost as bad as not having sufficient capacity.

The Cedar-University rapid station has signs posted saying "Station closing in 2 weeks". I was under the impression it was going to remain open during reconstruction. Is this no longer the case?

Athens Revisited
^^ yeah, actually the burger king space is going to be turned into some sushi/asian themed place to be open as late as bar-closing. There was an article in the A-News not too long ago. Google will probably help.

Athens Revisited
^It was suprisingly normal, actually. You really couldn't tell that it used to be a theater. It was dated and dirty though. They moved to the far end of East State Street and Chipotle took their place (and took the marquee down).

Athens Revisited
The old Woolworth storefront had been boarded up with blue painted plywood for at least a decade. The owner had stubbornly refused to lease or sell to anyone (though there were apartments above during this period). This rehabilitation has been one of the most welcome changes to Court Street, along with the rebricking of the street's lower portions.

The construction barriers are going up at 14th and Prospect, and I saw a Cleveland Construction sign on the fence. Sure enough: http://www.clevelandconstruction.com/InteriorDetail.aspx?ProjectID=114

Reminds me of when I ran out of the color lego blocks I was using for a building, and had to fill in the gaps with other random colored blocks. I hated the result then, and this brings back a familiar feeling.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Maybe they'll set up goals or goalposts so employees can get in game of soccer or flag football during their lunch break. I mean, thats the only real benefit I can see from this. Turn a parking lot and grass into a couple of smaller parking lots and more grass. On a more positive note, the clinic is restoring one of the older buildings in the "imposing canyon" on carnegie. It's been covered in plastic for a while but it's coming off now and is looking good, except for the skywalk still peircing it's side. Sorry, no pic.

Note to others: Don't google image search 'balconet' at work! I understand the concept better now. I can understand why they went with these since true balconies on a college campus can sometimes be....hazardous to what's below. And I think it's pretty clear now that most of the residents will be undergrads, despite the intial marketing blurbs.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Thanks, but I hate when people say "going forward"! As opposed to what? That ranks right up there with "be that as it may" or "in so far as." Sorry, you discovered one of my pet peeves -- excessive verbosity! *Chuckles* Yep, and that's why I'm the telecom repair tech and you're the journalist. Also, they had a nice selection of local draft beers and I saw one of the Indigo Imp beers listed in the bottles section. It was too early to get started though.

What amazes me most about the construction are the "balconies" that extend all of 3 inches away from the the doors leading to them. What exactly do you do with that besides smoke a cigarette and toss the butt to the sidewalk below?

My wife and I ate at Black Dog (not Black Pig) today for lunch. I was suprised at how large the restaurant space actually was. It really extends deep into the City Club building, and they did a good job with the interior work. I got the Shoreway, which was a Lake Erie walleye sandwich. It was possibly the best fish sandwich I've ever had, and well worth it at 10 bucks. My wife got the Hangover (burger with fried egg, hasbrowns and bacon) and she enjoyed it. I thought duck-fat-fried french fries were great, but she didn't like the flavor. It was evident that it was our waitress' first waitressing job, so I'll give her a free pass. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal at a good price in the gateway area.

It's been nothing short of amazing watching what Solich has built in Athens. Roderick McDavis has been the straw that stirs the drink in terms of revitalizing the athletic programs at Ohio, but unfortunately he's often criticized for the amount of money (a bargain compared to most FBS schools) that is spent on athletics. As a member of the Athens High School Marching Band I watched 1-AA Northeastern dismantle the Bobcats from the stands at Peden Stadium during the annual high school band day in 2002. I didn't realize it at the time, nor did I really care, but that was rock bottom. A couple years later (2005), after transferring from Tulane back home to Ohio, I watched the Bobcats upset the Pittsburgh Panthers during Solich's home opener. Quite a contrast, and the program hasn't looked back since. The college bookstore used to sell shirts that said "Athens, Ohio: A Drinkin' Town with a Football Problem". Not really the case anymore.

Seems like a similar situation to the "Mister Tien" situation in Cleveland not too long ago. http://www.clevescene.com/gyrobase/the-mysterious-mister-tien/Content?oid=2772517&storyPage=1 Makes me wonder if these people in charge always click on the flashing "You have won!" banners on the top of websites, only to get automatically signed up for recurring marked-up shipments of acai berry energy drinks by the 100 count.

Completely non-expert opinion: That facade material will be much easier and cost-effective to clean regularly than stone, brick, or concrete.

The custom welcome greeting on one of my sister's ex-boyfriend's cell phone (back when any kind of customization on a cell phone was rare). He was a somewhat scrawny and nerdy dude so I found it amusing. And it's never taken on any forum.
