  1. im confused.......when is the actual fare increase as opposed to the fuel surcharge? the surcharge is october 27th, and there are route changes november 9th. is that the same date as the actual fare increase? if you buy passes you wont be required to pay extra for fuel surcharge correct? better yet.....what day will rta be changing the machines to the higher prices I guess you prefer hyperbole over sound economics. A month-long transit pass will cost $76 (vs. $63 at present). If you drive 10,000 miles per year, that's 833 miles per month. According to AAA, the average cost of driving a car you own is 56 cents per mile. That's $466 per month. Let's see..... $76 for transit vs. $466 for driving. Hmmm. So you're going to incur a $403 cost increase because you don't want to pay $13 more for transit. Brilliant! i wouldnt be driving 800 miles a day. the month pass is no longer cost effective unless you use it every single day. most people only work 5 days a week so thats $3.80 a day. it would actually be cheaper to use 5-ride cards at $3.50 a day. i dont need to use transportation everyday since i live around most daily conveniences. if i wanted to go somewhere 2 miles down the road, it would be a lot easier and cheaper to drive there. gas is less than $3/gallon now and i wouldnt even use a gallon a day.
  2. im glad we havent heard anything about this project :-D
  3. cincinnati is lucky
  4. well i sent letters to them already............didnt change the fact rta voted by themselves for the fuel surcharge. elected officials arent gonna do anything guess im gonna have to get a driver's liscense :x
  5. Why not try Sanborn maps? They should give you a good indication. Whereabout on the East Side are you buying property? e. 20s and e. 40s.........but im lookin all over, closer to downtown the better though how do i use sanborn maps? i looked it up and dont have a clue how id find out what used to exist there
  6. any fare hike is ridiculous. who can i complain to at RTA about this? and why do more frequent riders get hit the most by this i.e. week/month passes with gas prices going down will RTA make these fare hikes permanent if they receive more funding? im not talkin about the fuel surcharge, im talkin about the fare increase/route cuts in november so RTA is raising fires twice in the span of a few weeks?
  7. so how bad would it be if national city got taken over? i think they will be soon im definitely gonna buy some NCC 8-)
  8. bump eaton they jake as hell
  9. can anyone assist me in finding detailed ground shots of eastside neighborhoods ? i looked on clevelandmemory but couldnt find much. its important as im lookin to buy property and want to know what stood there....... aerials would work too any more pics are welcome here
  10. they mustve recently extended the hours.......last time i was downtown just after 7 (7:15) and CVS was closed. it says on their website both stores on euclid and e. 9th are only open til 8 PM i still think they should be open later than 9 or 10 regardless
  11. i think its pretty podunk that the CVSs downtown are only open til like 7 or 7:30 PM. they should be 24 hrs or at least 11 PM like regular stores
  12. and people want to gentrify OTR.....sad lets make all the poor people move way out in the suburbs cuz we finally wanna come back to city and be hip! no
  13. i think that people should be going to washington with these letters too. not just columbus. can anyone provide us with a list of people in the FTA? who specifically should we contact ? i looked on the FTA's website and found the regional administrator for our region which is region 4 but i couldnt find any contact info http://www.fta.dot.gov/about/offices/about_FTA_784.html here's the list of phone numbers for the FTA headquarters offices http://www.fta.dot.gov/about/offices/about_FTA_146.html i will be writing/emailing officials, congressman, senators, representatives, bob taft, city council members, RTA, frank jackson and whoever else i can from ohiopublictransit.org i looked at the whole PDF and ohio is the only state in our region to see state transit funding DECREASE from 1995-2006 thanks to jerry for the info on requesting state funding. do you know if there will be a petition we can sign anywhere? i know there was one at the meeting but i couldnt attend
  14. sadly i agree. cleveland has gutted itself of its most urban building stock/neighborhoods blocks and blocks of those apartment buildings in the last pic? it would be the grandest thats what i always say, but instead people build mcmansions and crappy townhomes 2 miles from downtown. would people really not buy a re-creation of the buildings that used to exist there instead of some new urbanism crap?
  15. well at least he criticized the ECP his criticism was probably that its a glorified busway
  16. FBI raided dimora? hahahah GOOD! the fuckin 3 stooges need to all get the hell out. how are these clowns in office in the first place? wonder where tax money REALLY goes to........ and a question about the sales tax raise for this medical mart, is that even legal? can they raise the sales tax without a vote?
  17. doubt it. what was this supposed survey on? if people actually want to take a bus that has to sit in traffic over rail that doesnt and stops less frequently then they are idiots maybe these people "prefer" to take the bus because the rapid lines dont go where they want to go. afterall, you cant hop on a train from downtown to glenville. go poll people along the blue line and ask them if theyd rather take a bus down van aken and shaker blvd. doubt theyd say yes

too many tall buildings there totally ruins street life
  19. how difficult would it be to convert the busses? this would help beyond the budget crisis as it would help with pollution does anyone have figures of federal funding received by states for public transportation? this is why its important for RTA to get ridership figures correct and cleveland to fight the population census as the government probably isnt going to allot as much money to a shrinking region/economy where "no one rides public transportation". id be willing to bet states like arizona receive way more in public transportation funding than ohio.
  20. first, i dont believe that BS about people not wanting to take a train instead of a bus. i bet if you asked 10 people at RTA stops whether theyd prefer to take a bus or train for their trip 9 of them would say train. i think that this is just an excuse and RTA simply doesnt want rail. calabrese is anti-rail and hes at the head of the pecking order second, i agree with everyone here who has said they should run an extra car if just during peek hours on the blue/green line i think that RTA severely underestimates riders and potential riders with inaccurate counts. they believe there isnt demand where there is for services. i find it hard to believe the ridership levels especially compared to other cities where public transportation is worse than cleveland. but according to RTA, cleveland is at the bottom onto this increased fare BS: http://www.riderta.com/nu_newsroom_releases.asp?listingid=1183 whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! as a person who wants to live car free this DOES NOT make me happy. it is one thing to raise fares, and another to CUT SERVICES ALSO! arent these fare increases supposed to be so services can remain without being cut? if anything cleveland needs MORE coverage from public transportation. $32 increase on a month pass? thats over a 50% increase in cost. all day pass will be 50% increase. 5-ride passes 43%. this is ridiculous. RTA will go from being one of the best bargains for public transportation (they even ADVERTISE that a lot) to being the most expensive. im very upset about all of this. if RTA does need to absolutely cut bus lines, why not start with where it operates furthest out instead of ones in the middle of the city or in the inner ring suburbs. how does RTA expect to gain ridership with increased fares and cutting routes? a lot of people dont ride RTA because quote "it doesnt go anywhere" im gonna have to buy about 50 5-ride cards before october to even still afford the rapid now i will be forced to evade fares, buy a car, or move to somewhere where i can actually live car free people cant even get a job let alone one that pays a living wage in this city and you want to raise a fare by 43%? lets not forget about SENIORS who cant drive and rely on public transportation to get around. many of them live on pensions and retirement savings/checks. theres also kids who have to take RTA to get to school. there seems to be some serious structural management problems at RTA if they have to almost double fares in about 2 yrs to keep afloat maybe instead of taking federal money for a glorified bus way RTA should be going to the fed with this crisis. if RTA has no choice if it wants to continue operating then this is a serious issue where calabrese should going directly to washington. RTA needs more money and riders? dont make me pay on the WFL and then watch as a few people walk on and a couple rich white girls ask what line it is and sit down without payin. since that train was continuing onto the green line they got to ride from downtown for free. i am not blaming RTA for everything as i realize they are helpless in much of the matter. in general RTA does a good job of running the service and most of the employees are very good and helpful. it makes me sick looking at figure of how much money the government gives to states like illinois in comparison with ohio. something must be done and it starts in columbus. so much for rising gas prices making public transportation cheaper and better. maybe RTA should have busses that run on grease/vegetable oil instead of diesel fuel. another thing to add.........as far as some of the bus routes that are basically bloating the budget and are not really needed, if RTA were serious about rail before and were able to expand the system through federal and state money the bus system wouldnt have to be overloaded and routes could disappear without directly affecting people as much
  21. almost a yr and sales tax raise that we couldnt vote on later and still nothing wheres the medical mart?
  22. im praying this proposal is never built. id rather the parking lot remain there for 10 yrs if thats how long it takes for there to be an actually decent proposal. doesnt have to be a supoertall, doesnt even have to be taller than key......just something thats tall enough to offer lake views & has a good design. this quote is perfect lets hope thats the case
  23. sad that those old building are gone for good :( as for the FEB........in its current iteration i think it sucks. the architecture looks extremely generic and the way the layout is they made it less dense than it could be. this is basically cracker park with a couple of mid rises. it doesnt fit in with the surrounding area at all and looks like it belongs in the suburbs. amazing that in downtown cleveland they cant even get it right. this just makes me lose even more faith that cleveland will ever build correctly in the city. instead of having that curved street with the long curved building they couldve taken the same space they are planning and broken it into smaller buildings on a grid...making it MUCH denser what FEB should be is all residential with maybe a couple shops but i know financing wouldve been impossible for that. i remember seein ernst & young's name on the building in stark's rendering for the WHD.......i am puzzled why a company would want to locate itself in suburban downtown instead of right in the heart next to public square. same for any other companies. this is crap
  24. 6% black and 5% asian is "racially diverse" ? lol solon is prolly 80% white or above, that isnt diverse. and jewish is a religion not a "race" (we're all the same race- human) or ethnicity solon sucks btw
