  1. ^ The graphic is the number of people who finish the marathon. The over 18,000 number is everybody participating in all of the events combined.
  2. Looked like a great crowd. Way to end the game!
  3. Im sorry but I have to disagree with that point. The buildings on East 4th have way more character. Many of the buildings on Old River Road were one story, windowless pieces of crap, especially when compared to the building stock throughout the rest of downtown.
  4. ^ Especially on the riverside.
  5. My problem with a loop like that is that it really doesn't conveniently serve anyone. For most, its a good walk to the station, then when you get to your destination stop, its a good walk from there to where you are heading. Thats why I would prefer a streetcar loop. I proposed a loop that would better serve what downtown has to offer and one that could promote development in areas along the route. Im not fixed on the route, but this is one way I could see it work.
  6. Looking at phase one closer, I really dont think it will add that much life to the flats. And as Hts121 mentioned, phase one is actually closer to the warehouse district. This office building and hotel will actually be pretty isolated. The shoreway to the south, rta tracks to the west, rail road tracks and the port to the north, and nothing really to the east. Future phases are what could really have an impact though, especially with adding residents down there, and this phase will be laying the groundwork for this to happen.
  7. ^ Nope, it was just a parking lot. And for the most part, those buildings were nothing special, some actually pretty hideous. So there is really no comparison in demolishing them and demolishing the columbia building and stanley block.
  8. Just saw a commercial for it on tv
  9. This will still look better then the parking mess you see on the west bank
  10. I dont expect them to invest too much into the park cause its just temporary, but I would expect some sort of attractions on the Malls
  11. Video http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/189658/3/Exec-explains-Cleveland-casino-construction-shutdown Exec explains Cleveland casino construction shutdown
  12. They can turn it into a park, or leave it an ugly zoned of construction site with no construction occurring. I prefer the park for now.
  13. Google Maps is way off in that area. Gates Mills Blvd. is a pretty easy travel with its traffic circles and low amounts of traffic. There's no way 3.7 miles would take 13 minutes (that's an average of 17 MPH!). From his house to the new office its 6.5 miles
  14. I went by his exact address. And used Googlemaps for the time(which could be wrong).
  15. No, sorry, the part where you said "I still wouldn't choose that area in its current state to rent". Not enough going on in that area quite yet in my opinion. There are several other options in the city that I would choose first currently. Just not at the top of my list. Someday...who knows
  16. Just did some creeping and the CEO lives in Gates Mills. He will now have a 14 minute drive into work. So basically he cut his commute in half.
  17. The rental part? Cause right now condos aren't selling, and it would be even harder to find financing. I think if they built more apartments in the area, the district could take off. Then at that point you can start building condos.
  18. ^ I would give them the Walkway if we could keep the Columbia Building and the Stanley Block. Unfortunately we might lose both, and gain the walkway.
  19. 1000 Lakeside Avenue http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1000+Lakeside+Ave&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=1000+Lakeside+Ave+E,+Cleveland,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio+44114&gl=us&ll=41.505801,-81.690366&spn=0.001948,0.004801&t=h&z=18 Their CEO said the companies "preference was for a single-tenant building in a campus-like setting with no more than two floors"
  20. True, but I was out during the afternoon, when all of them were crammed inside the Q. Anyways great day! And I really hope the walkway doesn't get built. I dont think it will though.
  21. On a side note, downtown was really hopping to today. I guess everybody wanted to get outside and enjoy the weather!
  22. Cleveland State establishes partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University CLEVELAND, Ohio - A partnership between Cleveland State University and the Northeast Ohio Medical University will produce doctors committed to practicing in urban neighborhoods, according to the doctor leading the effort. "The bottom line is that we will connect to the community," said Dr. Mark Penn, senior vice president for academic affairs at NEOMED, formerly the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine & Pharmacy. Through the program, which begins in the fall, students start their studies at CSU and then advance to NEOMED to earn their medical degrees. Cleveland State to lease historic Union Building Cleveland State University will lease a historic building that has been largely vacant for six years to use as administrative offices and to provide space for Northeast Ohio Medical University classes as part of a partnership to train urban doctors. Tom Kuluris, president of Liberty Development Co. of Westlake, is thrilled that CSU sees the potential in the Union Building at 1836 Euclid Ave., across the street from the university's student center. Liberty bought the building last summer and received $3.3 million in historic-preservation tax credits. "(CSU) understood the vision to renovate and save the building," he said. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/05/cleveland_state_establishes_pa.html
  23. Ferro Corp. to move HQ to Mayfield Heights from downtown Cleveland Ferro Corp. (NYSE: FOE) plans to move its headquarters out of downtown Cleveland in favor of a site in the suburbs. The producer of specialty chemicals said it has signed a long-term lease for a two-story, 63,000-square-foot office building at 6060 Parkland Blvd. in Mayfield Heights that will become known as Ferro Global Headquarters. Ferro expects employees will occupy their new offices early this fall. Ferro said the new headquarters will house corporate departments and business teams currently located at its current headquarters on Lakeside Avenue in downtown Cleveland and at three locations in Independence. The move to the new headquarters will put about 150 employees at that location. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20110511/FREE/110519961
  24. ^ Wtf is that. That better not happen
