  1. Because planners care/know more about urban farming than urban design.
  2. ^^ Wait, does the city club not have the pillars that were removed for CVS in the picture??? Or have those been gone for a LONG time?
  3. Ill admit I didnt read the entire article and just finished reading this article of a similar incident which happened in Lakewood so I probably mixed the two stories. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/10/man_wanted_for_lakewood_robber.html#incart_river_default But still, this is an issue we can't ignore. It happens more than you think, most of the time not making the news. This exact scene/description fits nearly every crime notification at Cleveland State, the Clinic, etc. And now I see it has been happening in Cleveland Heights and Lakewood as well. Not good.
  4. This is getting out of control, and unfortunately makes you think twice when a group of black teenagers on bikes approaches if you are in an area without a lot of people around. This is becoming far too common.
  5. Ohio City's growth & development progress has created a significant wealth disparity, placing "haves" & "have nots" in close proximity to one another. Would take some major policing and officers on the street to stop the random street violence and round up the troublemakers Ohio City is also home to or surrounded by some of the roughest public housing, such as Lakeview Estates, transitional housing, homeless shelters, and is bordered by some rough areas. It is probably viewed as a hangout too which draws people in looking for trouble. University Circle probably doesn't see this to the same extent, although bordered by some very rough areas, because it is not viewed as much of a place to hangout to people looking for trouble. Additionally University Circle is served by several police forces, patrolling on foot, bike, car, and those strange little vehicle things. I agree with a statement Hts121 made awhile ago that Ohio City and other neighborhoods would benefit greatly from increased foot patrol. Maybe Ohio City and Tremont residents and businesses can team up to create their own police force?
  6. ^ Haha, I love that guy taking off his sunglasses!
  7. Can someone explain the purpose of the quarter circle connection to East 55th? That is the only section that doesn't make sense to me, and is solely responsible for the majority of the demolitions. Remove that portion of the project and their would be only like 5 houses remaining to be demolished, which are all extremely isolated and falling apart. Possibly vacant.
  8. Terrible! It literally ruined the excitement for me this season.
  9. I won't use RTA for St Patricks day anymore as it is much faster, easier, and cheaper to drive. Traffic is never that bad on St Patricks day surprisingly. It's not really RTA's fault, but our rapid system fails in the scenario of large events, which is really only St Patricks day in our situation. Having only one primary downtown rapid station(Tower City) makes it impossible to handle the crowds after the parade as everyone rushes into one location, which also happens to be a mall making it even worse. I do feel RTA could use the waterfront line better, like having all Blue/Green line customers use those stations, but last time I checked they only sent blue line trains every 30 minutes minimum during the parade.
  10. I'm confused about your question. The premise of your earlier comment was that Cleveland had best build the OC lest the money go to another city/metropolitan area, like say Columbus. Avon is within Cleveland's metro area. The same wrong-headed motivations for an Avon interchange attracting big box and/or strip/campus type development should be halted anywhere it can be. But the OC IS in Cleveland proper, competing with mass transit and, despite the rosy/phony claims that it will bring development, that is unlikely -- has the Chester Ave extension (from E. 55 to E.107), one of the closer existing comparators to the OC, attracted development in its 60 years of existence? Answer: No. The OC will be responsible for all the development at the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Institute of Art, and Uptown, like the Healthline!!!
  11. I think in many cases the buildings aren't maintained and the owners don't pay taxes. Didn't we just find out that the owners of the mansion on Euclid Avenue haven't paid any taxes? Why don't we go after these type of owners?
  12. I am the farthest thing from religious but c'mon. Rather have a giant parking lot?!!! It's quite ironic that several on here would call these church goers unwelcoming to other groups, yet several on here don't want them to come here since they freak them out! Do you not see it's the same thing? And they would also rip on them for being scared of the city and not coming downtown. Now you are trying to keep them away. Nice.
  13. We lost Embassey suites and the Crowne Plaza so that did remove a decent amount of rooms from the market for the new hotels to fill.
  14. I don't think he is necessarily blaming RTA, but saying that it seems like something always goes wrong at the worst timing for RTA.
  15. Cameron's success so far this season is definitely a suprise. Last year he had trouble blocking, and was not much of a receiving threat. He dropped several passes and had trouble getting open. Initially I was mad about letting Watson go. But out of nowhere Cameron seems to be getting open every play and catching every ball thrown his way. Definitely a nice surprise.

I agree. And we don't agree often it seems, although we have been more recently. Seems like a fair policy.
  17. Unfortunatly I don't think Cleveland wants to a dense walkable city that competes with other cities. It wants to compete with suburbs by following the suburban model which is a lost cause and will hurt Cleveland in the end. Additionally 3C rail supporters always used the argument against Kasich that the money had to be spent on rail so we might as well build it or some other city will get the money. They used that logic and now rip on those who use that logic for this project. Can't have it both ways.
  18. It looks like that character from the Zelda games
  19. I think filling apartments would be easier than filling the retail spaces.
  20. I'm in playhouse square regularly at night during the week and it is almost completely dead. I'm worried that several of the new restaurants won't make it.
  21. They are only doing minor updates because they are planning on building a new stadium in gateway!
  22. ^ Active, but oddly everything is vacant, boarded up, and looks like crap!
  23. ^ there is an even worse before photo out there somewhere.
  24. In the report it shows a picture of the Keith Building which says... "The Keith Building, a new residential building at Euclid Avenue and East 17th Street in downtown Cleveland. It opened with 236 units in 2010 and was fully occupied within months."

^ I think students need to learn about our country more as well. And also that we aren't the only "free country"
